Australia: Queensland to legalize homosexual adoption - putting kids at risk

As part of a planned overhaul of the state's adoption laws, which were last reviewed under a Labor government in 2009, the Palaszczuk Labor government will introduce legislation this month which will allow singles, same-sex couples and couples undergoing IVF the right to adopt children. This will place children at risk especially for homosexual couples.

This is the only logic that the minister can produce regarding making radical changes: "It is about time that Queensland caught up with other Australian states and territories to allow same sex couples to adopt children in Queensland," Communities Minister Shannon Fentiman said.

Other states go down a dangerous path therefore Queensland should follow! Why would a minister be excited about promoting an immoral relationship: "I am very excited that our review of the Adoption Act saw an overwhelming response from the Queensland community supporting same-sex adoption."

The minister is proud of promoting immorality just because other states have rammed through similar legislation: "This is significant law reform in Queensland, it is law reform I am proud of. I absolutely believe that Queensland should come into line with other states and territories and allow same-sex couples to adopt."

One should remember, that a homosexual couple in North Queensland, who had molested their adopted overseas child was heavily promoted by the ABC and fooled the pro-gay marriage reporter until she discovered the ugly truth. The couple disappeared.

Ms Fentiman ordered the review that sparked the legislation almost a year ago, including six months of community consultation. Many never heard of the review. It was probably only given to the unions.

For couples such as Julie Carrington and Lea Sanson, who have been raising a six-year-old girl, it means their family will finally achieve legal permanence.

"The news is a very emotional time for us," Ms Carrington said. "We finally get to be her mummies and we are very proud and very excited."  Unfortunately adopted kids already coming from brokenness are now being used in an experiment where father don't exist said another Church spokesperson.

National spokeswoman of Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays, Shelley Argent, said the "fantastic" move would benefit entire families. Unfortunately, the definition of "entire families" will not include a Mother and a Father together.  This is a dangerous experiment.

Family lawyer Stephen Page said the removal of the discriminatory provisions within the Queensland act would give certainty to children in foster care, who would be able to be adopted by their legal guardians, if not for the law.

"You don't have to be in family law for very long to realise that sexuality is not the important thing, it is the quality of parenting," he said. Unfortunately several studies are now emerging that contradict this very statement.

"We've signed up the International Convention on the Rights of the Child, and if we are serious about that, the best interests of the child, we have to assess, for each child, who [are] the best carers. And it shouldn't be just based on sexuality. So this is a wonderful achievement."

The Palaszczuk government will need the support of either the LNP or the crossbench to ensure its success. The majority of the community is against this experiment and calls the Premier to back down and sack the minister.

On previous LGBTI matters, which included the reinstatement of civil unions, the LNP has allowed a conscience vote. A spokeswoman for the LNP said the party would review the legislation "through the normal process" before making a decision on whether it would support it.
