Ottawa mayor to pro-family citizens: ‘I don’t want your vote’

OTTAWA, February 11, 2014  – The mayor of Ottawa has defended the city as it joins other Canadian municipalities in raising a rainbow flag at city hall during the Olympics in Sochi to protest Russia’s ban on homosexual propaganda.

Mayor Jim Watson is facing criticism because of an exchange with one of his critics on Twitter. The critic criticized the flag, writing, “This is a stupid waste of time. You’ve lost my vote.”

Mayor Jim Watson sprays the crowd with a water gun at the 2013 Pride parade in Ottawa.
The mayor responded to this, “If you have that point of view, I really don’t want your vote.”
The comment has a national pro-family leader up in arms. In an interview, Brian Rushfeldt, executive director of Canada Family Action, said,

“For a mayor to say I don’t want your vote because you disagree with me on an issue – that to me shows the bigotry and the intolerance that is coming from the pro-homosexual community extensively in this day and age.”

“The mayor of Ottawa is not alone in that arrogant attitude that I will do what I want and if you don’t like it, just move,” he added.
Watson is well-known for his support of the homosexual and pro-abortion agenda.

The mayor is a regular attendee at the city’s annual Pride parade. In 2013, he sprayed the crowd with a water gun atop a float that distributed condoms. “Sex It Smart,” the packages read.

Though he has proclaimed a “Respect for Life Day” on the day of the National March for Life for three years in a row, he has asserted in doing so that he himself is pro-abortion.
Watson did not respond when asked for comment, specifically on his understanding of an elected official’s responsibility toward constituents who disagree with his social views.
