Redefining marriage threatens social advances of women, rights of children: UK law professor

Image
LONDON , November 7, 2012  – The debate about same-sex “marriage” in the UK is not, as the government and other supporters would have it, about “equality,” “rights” or “fairness,” but about “using law to change the meaning of the social institution of marriage.” So says Julian Rivers, a Professor of Jurisprudence at the University of Bristol Law School. Any new definition of marriage that would include partnerships not based on a single man and a single woman for the procreation and protection of children, would “unavoidably call into question its exclusivity, its permanence and even its sexual nature,” said Rivers in a report issued by the Jubilee Centre , “a Christian social reform organisation that offers a biblical perspective on issues and trends of relevance to the general public”. Titled “ Redefining Marriage: a case for caution ,” it is being submitted to the government as part of the ongoing consultation on “gay marriage.” Professor Julian Rivers “Changing the

Americans think gay population is 735% higher than it is, Gallup finds

WASHINGTON, D.C. , October 19, 2012, (Family Research Center)—When a Gallup poll asked people to estimate how many Americans were homosexual in 2011, most guessed 25 percent . Turns out, they were about 22 percent off. The actual number, Gallup reported Thursday, is about 3.4 percent—a startling statistic for most people who just naturally assumed the media saturation was driven by a big population. Who can blame them? These numbers should be shocking to anyone who’s lived through the deluge of gay and lesbian policy, entertainment, school curriculum, and corporate capitulation of the past 10 years. According to Gallup, this survey is the largest single study of the U.S. LGBT population ever conducted. Over four months, Gallup canvassed the country by phone, interviewing more than 121,000 people. The results were based on answers to this question, “Do you, personally, identify as a lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender?” Although surveys like this one can be tricky—po

More people say no to Homosexual Marriage

One issue that has been in headlines recently is "gay marriage." We were curious to know how federal employees and retirees (most of our readers fall into these categories) react to this subject. In most of the polls on political issues, readers tend to favor the liberal side of the political spectrum. In large part, this is due to economic self-interest. On the issue of gay marriage, however, readers gave a more conservative response. 64 percent of those responding are opposed to legalizing same-sex marriage and 33 percent said they are in favor of legalizing same-sex marriage. Three percent are undecided on the issue. Some of the reasons given for being against same-sex marriage are based on religious beliefs. Some readers think it is destructive to society to allow same-sex marriage. Still others are in favor of civil unions but prefer restricting marriage to a relationship between a man and a woman. Those speaking out in favor of allowing same-sex marriage often viewed i

Image
National Organization for Marriage (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) WASHINGTON, D.C. —The National Organization for Marriage (NOM) today commended the volunteer leadership of  Preserve Marriage Washington  on its incredible effort in collecting a record number of signatures to qualify Referendum 74, which gives voters the ability to preserve traditional marriage in the state. The committee turned in more than 240,000 voter signatures, more than twice the number of signatures it needed to qualify the measure to the November ballot. "We are so pleased and proud to have supported the Preserve Marriage Washington effort to qualify R-74, and we commend them for the historic signature gathering campaign they have mounted," said Brian Brown , NOM’s president and a member of the Executive Committee of Preserve Marriage Washington. "The signature gathering effort produced more signatures than have ever been collected by any referendum committee in the history of the state.

Cardinal Dolan: Obama marriage flip ‘deeply saddening,’ but unsurprising

Image
WASHINGTON , May 10, 2012  – The president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), Cardinal Timothy Dolan of New York , said that President Obama’s newly-announced support for redefining marriage is a blow to the institution of marriage, but unsurprising given the Obama administration ’s record. Cardinal Timothy Dolan “President Obama’s comments today in support of the redefinition of marriage are deeply saddening,” wrote Dolan in  a letter  posted on the USCCB website.  “The Catholic Bishops stand ready to affirm every positive measure taken by the President and the Administration to strengthen marriage and the family. However, we cannot be silent in the face of words or actions that would undermine the institution of marriage, the very cornerstone of our society.  The people of this country, especially our children, deserve better.” The Obama campaign recently   released a list   of the president’s many actions in favor of the gay rights agenda, including refusin

Washington governor signs gay ‘marriage’ bill without religious protections

Image
February 13, 2012 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) - Gov. Christine Gregoire of Washington State has signed into law a gay “marriage” bill that will force church-owned facilities to accommodate homosexual ceremonies. Gregoire, a lame-duck Democrat governor who proposed the bill earlier this year, celebrated the end of defining marriage as between a man and a woman as she signed the bill on Monday. Washington State Governor Christine Gregoire “I’m proud our same-sex couples will no longer be treated as separate but equal,” she said. The bill makes Washington the sixth U.S. state to redefine marriage, in addition to the District of Columbia . Local religious leaders have been particularly alarmed about the bill because it will force facilities owned by churches that are regularly used for marriages to be offered to homosexual couples. The  bill text  states that religious organizations that provide “accommodations, facilities, advantages, privileges, services, or goods related to the solemnizat

Taxpayers to pay $3 million to promote worldwide homosexual advocacy, Lady Gaga concerts

Image via Wikipedia WASHINGTON, D.C. December 9, 2011  – As part of a worldwide campaign to promote global acceptance of homosexuality, the Obama administration has established a $3 million “Global Equality Fund” to fund homosexual political “advocacy” around the world at taxpayer expense. State Department guidelines suggest this could include everything from funding foreign political activists to campaign against legislation that defines marriage as a union between one man and one women, to hosting gay pride parades and concerts by Lady Gaga in far-flung countries. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton trumpeted the formation of the group in a speech she delivered in Geneva on Tuesday. “I am also pleased to announce that we are launching a new Global Equality Fund that will support the work of civil society organizations working on these issues around the world,” Clinton said. “This fund will help them record facts so they can target their advocacy, learn how to use the law as a to

Gay marriage advocates want to change marriage completely

Image
Image via Wikipedia This is the article from Beyond Marriage, a group who want to destroy the concept of historic marriage. WARNING: THIS IS THE FUTURE IF WE DON'T ACT NOW! "The time has come to reframe the narrow terms of the marriage debate in the United States . Conservatives are seeking to enshrine discrimination in the U.S. Constitution through the Federal Marriage Amendment .  But their opposition to same-sex marriage is only one part of a broader pro-marriage, “family values” agenda that includes abstinence-only sex education, stringent divorce laws, coercive marriage promotion policies directed toward women on welfare, and attacks on reproductive freedom. Moreover, a thirty-year political assault on the social safety net has left households with more burdens and constraints and fewer resources. Meanwhile, the LGBT movement has recently focused on marriage equality as a stand-alone issue. While this strategy may secure rights and benefits for some LGBT

New York clerk resigns over gay ‘marriage’: Gov. Cuomo responds, ‘The law is the law’

Image
Reacting to the news that the first New York State town clerk has resigned rather than sign her name on a same-sex “marriage” license, Gov. Andrew Cuomo insisted Tuesday that “the law is the law.” “When you enforce the laws of the state, you don’t get to pick and choose which laws,” he said, according to the NY Daily News .  “You don’t get to say, ‘I like this law and I’ll enforce this law, or I don’t like this law and I won’t enforce this law’ - you can’t do that.” “So if you can’t enforce the law, then you shouldn’t be in that position,” he added. Laura Fotusky, a clerk in the town of Barker, announced her resignation Monday on the website of New Yorkers for Constitutional Freedoms.  “I cannot put my signature on something that is against God ,” she wrote in her resignation letter.  “The Bible clearly teaches that God created marriage between male and female as a divine gift that preserves families and cultures.” “I would be compromising my moral conscience if I participated i
