WASHINGTON, June 8, 2012 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) — Washington State ’s new gay “marriage” law has been halted one day before it was set to come into effect, after Preserve Marriage Washington (PMW) collected and filed over 240,000 signatures opposing the redefinition of marriage . The “marriage” law, signed by Governor Chris Gregoire , would have made Washington the seventh state to legalize gay “marriages.” Brian Brown , president of National Organization for Marriage , commended  PMW, stating that the successful signature campaign demonstrates the “deep support that traditional marriage enjoys” and “sets the stage for a tremendous victory for marriage this November.” “The signature gathering effort produced more signatures than have ever been collected by any referendum committee in the history of the state,” Brown declared. The submitted signatures will be reviewed over the next week, to determine if they are sufficient to qualify to put a referendum to protect tru

The Associated Press on an important landmark being reached (and surpassed!) by our allies in Washington State ! Opponents of gay marriage say they have enough signatures to qualify a referendum for the November ballot. Preserve Marriage Washington plans to submit more than 200,000 signatures Wednesday, blocking the law from taking effect on Thursday. State officials will review the filings over the next week to determine whether the referendum will qualify for a public vote. The referendum seeks to overturn the measure allowing same-sex marriage in the state. That law was passed by the Legislature and signed by Gov.  Chris Gregoire earlier this year. The Washington secretary of state 's office recommends that campaigns submit about 150,000 signatures in order to provide a cushion for invalid or duplicate signatures. --  AP Related articles Opponents place Wash. gay marriage law on hold (sfgate.com) Opponents block Washington state gay marriage (seattleti

Slovenian court: referendum challenging same-sex ‘marriage,’ adoption law can proceed

LJUBLJANA ,  - A referendum initiated by the Slovenian Civilian Initiative for Family and the Rights of Children (CIFRC) challenging the Slovenian Family Code adopted in June 2011, which gives same-sex couples the right to ‘marriage’ and adoption of children, was approved by the Slovenian Constitutional Court on December 27, 2011. “The Constitutional Court announced it had rejected the parliament’s request to stay the referendum on the controversial family law , meaning that the referendum will be held if the proponents manage to collect the requisite 40,000 signatures,” Ales Primc, head of the CIFRC, told LifeSiteNews. With the ruling from the court, pro-family forces will begin collecting signatures again this week. Mr. Primc explained that the government, alleging that the referendum campaign would be “undemocratic and intolerant,” had asked the court for a ruling on the constitutionality of the referendum in September. “We are very happy to be able to resume the collecting of s

California referendum launched to halt mandatory ‘gay history’ law

Image
Image via Wikipedia Conservative leaders in California are gathering support for a referendum to block the state’s new law that mandates that history curricula highlight homosexual figures, and that forbids any teaching that reflects negatively upon homosexuality. Governor Jerry Brown this month signed SB 48, which mandates an emphasis on “ lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender ” role models in K-12 history and social science textbooks .  Because California constitutes a large share of the national textbook market, the mandate, although unique to California, would likely cause the printing and distribution of “ gay-friendly ” textbooks for consumption across America . In response, the Pacific Justice Institute (PJI) with several other pro-family organizations quickly launched a referendum for a SB 48 repeal. Papers have been filed with the California Attorney General ’s Office, where officials will craft an official title and summary. Once a title and summary are received f
