The Bible, Homosexuality and love

Image
Christianity views human sexuality as being the result of God’s creative act. Therefore, sexual activity should be in accordance with God’s intention as revealed in the Bible. The biblical portrayal of human sexuality is based on the understanding that we are created male or female in the image of God and that the union of husband and wife in marriage is the appropriate relationship for sexual activity. Sexual behaviour is an expression of love between a man and a woman who have committed themselves to each other in marriage. The consistent biblical ideal for sexual experience is chastity for those outside of a monogamous heterosexual marriage and fidelity for those within such a marriage. Human sexual relationships are to be monogamous and heterosexual. The Christian view of human sexuality is not the only or even the prevailing view within Australian society.  An alternative view is that sexual identity and behaviour is the prerogative of the individual and that any

This Sin but Not That Sin HOMOSEXUALITY

It is as if the sins of adultery or fornication are wrong, but a sort of normalized wrong, whereas homosexuality is a “weird” or “unusual” sin. What we fail to recognize is that every sin from the mildest gossip to the wildest orgy is a mark of the fall, proof of sins twisting God ’s good creation. Last week I wrote about how Christians should respond to NBA player Jason Collins coming out as gay. Later a young gay man challenged me as to why Christians feel the need to respond with such bold clarity to homosexuality while not doing the same to other cultural sins. He pointed out some of the well-publicized stories of sexual infidelity and divorce in the NBA, as well as the underground culture in pro basketball involving groupies and prostitutes. Why, he asked, does homosexuality get skewered while behaviors like these are often overlooked by Christians? It is a fair and thoughtful question, and it deserves an honest and thoughtful answer. The short answer as to why writer

Christian teaching is not ‘hateful’: the stakes are too high to be silenced by that label

Hate is disobedience to God . "Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him" ( I John 3:15). To rage against, physically or verbally abuse , belittle, or diminish the humanity of homosexuals is hateful. To disagree is not hateful. To stand for truth is not hateful. To make arguments about human sexuality and marriage from  sociological and demographic data  is not hateful. To  object to the legal redefinition of marriage  is not hateful. To  oppose efforts to redefine marriage in law  is not hateful. To believe in  the uniqueness of male-female complementarity  is not hateful. To herald  the Bible's teaching that sexual intimacy is reserved for the covenant of one-man, one-woman marriage  is not hateful. To assert that any form of sexual intimacy outside of heterosexual, monogamous marriage is sinful is not hateful. To affirm the Bible's teaching that whatever one's sins (

Contraception gave us divorce and gay ‘marriage’ and will destroy us: here’s how

Lyrl created this image as a visual explanation of the Standard Days Method. The Standard Days Method works for women who always have menstrual cycles between 26 and 32 days in length. Avoiding sexual intercourse on the days labeled 'fertile' results in a pregnancy rate of 10% per year. The method can also be used to achieve pregnancy - the woman has sexual intercourse on the days labeled 'fertile'. (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) March 4, 2015 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) -- Although there has always been contraception , its acceptance and practice by society as a whole is a relatively new phenomenon. In the first part of the 20 th  century barrier methods became through mass production increasingly used. However, with the advent of the hormonal contraceptive pill in the 1960s the contraceptive era, ushering in the sexual revolution, really took off. The term “revolution” is by no means exaggerated, for the result was a fundamental change in the understanding of human sexua

What’s wrong is right: a revolution in rationalization

Governor Rick Perry of Texas   recently made waves  when he was asked whether he thought homosexuality is a disorder. He replied that he was not professionally qualified to pronounce on a medical or mental health question, and then added, “Whether or not you feel compelled to follow a particular lifestyle or not, you have the ability to decide not to do that . . . I may have the genetic coding that I'm inclined to be an alcoholic, but I have the desire not to do that, and I look at the homosexual issue the same way.” As you might expect, this answer—which many millions of Americans might honestly have given—caused a bit of a ruckus. If you wonder whether you would feel confident giving Perry’s answer, or have doubts whether it is even a defensible answer to give, you should read Robert R. Reilly’s latest book,  Making Gay Okay: How Rationalizing Homosexual Behavior Is Changing Everything . This is a very important book, and Ignatius Press should be commended for publishing it

Is Homosexuality a class of people like African-Americans?

Image
Is there a difference between skin color and sexual behavior ? Why should we classify people because of what they desire to do sexually?  Homosexuals want to be considered a class of people by depicting themselves as victims who, like blacks, have been denied civil rights . That way, they can make the unsuspecting public think that those who oppose their political agenda are discriminating against them rather than their behavior. According to them, conservatives are all bigots on par with racists—we are opposed to fairness itself.  But all of that is nonsense. First, the comparison of homosexuality to race is completely invalid. Skin color is benign, but sexual behavior is not. Having a certain skin color does not hurt anyone, but homosexual behavior can and does hurt others. Furthermore,  sexual behavior is always a choice; race never is.   You will find many former homosexuals, but you will never find a former African-American.  Second, homosexuality is not an identity or class; i

Enders Game author says Sodomy laws be reintroduced?

Orson Scott Card at Life, the Universe, & Everything at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) Orson Card writes:  Laws against homosexual behavior should remain on the books, not to be indiscriminately enforced against anyone who happens to be caught violating them, but to be used when necessary to send a clear message that those who flagrantly violate society's regulation of sexual behavior cannot be permitted to remain as acceptable, equal citizens within that society.  The goal of the polity is not to put homosexuals in jail. The goal is to discourage people from engaging in homosexual practices in the first place, and, when they nevertheless proceed in their homosexual behavior, to encourage them to do so discreetly, so as not to shake the confidence of the community in the polity's ability to provide rules for safe, stable, dependable marriage and family relationships. Homosexuality is fornication

Image
Fornication , a generic term for illicit sexual activity . In the Hebrew Bible , sexual misconduct includes seduction of a virgin, rape, sodomy, bestiality, incest, prostitution, and homosexual acts ( cf. Lev. 18; 19:20–22, 29; 20:10–21).  The specific sin of adultery tends to be treated separately from these offenses, perhaps because it related to marriage and was considered more serious, or at least in need of special legislation . Similarly, in the NT, almost any form of sexual activity outside the marriage relationship can be designated as fornication or “immorality” (cf. 1 Cor. 6:9; 2 Cor. 12:21; Eph. 5:5; Col. 3:5; 1 Thess. 4:3; 1 Tim. 1:10; Heb. 13:4; Jude 7).
