A teacher in Toronto’s Catholic school board shocked parents and ratepayers last week when she declared that joining a gay-straight alliance is a “perfect outcome” for Catholic students. Teresa Kelly, a technology teacher at Bishop Marrocco/Thomas Merton Catholic Secondary School , gave a five-minute speech Thursday at a Toronto Catholic District School Board meeting that dealt with trustee Garry Tanuan’s motion to ban GSAs. According to the teacher, being part of a GSA is “the embodiment of a perfectly-formed Catholic conscience.” As long as you ignore Biblical scripture, and sever your conscious and allow your conscious to be informed not by God's word but by the LGBT agenda.  “As a Catholic teacher, I feel that [ Thomas Merton ’s GSA] provides a beautiful place that is safe, that is inclusive, and that protects vulnerable children,” said Kelly, who’s been in the board for over 20

Florida middle school tries to disband immoral gay-straight alliance

LEESBURG, FL, May 14, 2013 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) – A Florida middle school school board, after caving to ACLU pressure by allowing a 14-year-old student to form a gay-straight alliance club, is now trying to disband it. The school had originally ignored student Baysil Siberston’s requests to start the club, but changed its decision following the threat of a lawsuit that alleged the school had violated Siberston’s First and Fourteenth Amendment rights. Now, the school has crafted a new policy permitting only clubs that promote critical thinking, business, and community service. The new policy has not yet been made official or taken affect. The ACLU has threatened lawsuits for other schools similarly resisting the institution of gay-straight alliance clubs in their schools. LifeSiteNews.com reported on such a threat in  Pennsylvania .  In 2008, a North Carolina high school principal resigned after his school agreed to form a gay-straight alliance . America's neighbo

(See the motion  here ) The motion, submitted by Toronto District Catholic School Board Trustee Garry Tanuan and seconded by Trustee John Del Grande, has the support of Catholic ratepayers and parents groups around the province which fought  the legislation  passed in June which attempted to force compliance by Catholic schools. CHAMBERSBURG, PA , March 20, 2013 ( LifeSiteNews ) – The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is threatening a Pennsylvania school district with legal action after the school board voted 5-4 to block the formation of a “ Gay-Straight Alliance ” (GSA) at a local high school.  The ACLU gave the Chambersburg Area School District a Wednesday deadline to reverse its decision before the ACLU moved forward with the suit.  But on early Wednesday afternoon, a district representative who asked not to be named told LifeSiteNews by phone that the original decision to bar the club still stands.  As to whether the school board might yet change their minds in the face of legal action, the employee said, “No decision has been made at this time.” The ACLU of Pennsylvania and homosexual advocacy group Equality PA originally wrote to the district on March 12 demanding they reverse their decision within three days, or be sued in federal court. According to Witold Walczak , ACLU-PA lega

Judge: Parents have no right to know what homosexual activist taught their children in school

HAMILTON, Ontario, Novembe 9 2012, – Parents and ratepayers in a Hamilton area school board will never know exactly what a homosexual activist told their children during a Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) assembly a year ago. The Information and Privacy Commissioner (IPC) of Ontario upheld last week the decision of the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB) to “deny access to the record” of the speech. Suresh Dominic of Campaign Life Catholics told LifeSiteNews.com that parents of school children should be “outraged that they have been denied the right to know what is being taught to their children.” Last November, a certified teacher named Laura Wolfson was invited as a guest speaker at a school-wide GSA held at Parkside High School in Dundas. Wolfson reportedly identified herself to the 400 students as  a lesbian “youth worship leader” from a synagogue  and held herself out to be an authority on Old Testament Scripture. Wolfson allegedly sought to discredit Cath

Catholic parents’ group: trustees obliged to refuse to implement Gay-Straight Alliances

Dalton McGuiny (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) A Catholic parents’ group is urging Catholic trustees to refuse to comply with Ontario ’s anti-bullying law that forces Gay-Straight-Alliance clubs (GSAs) into separate schools. Instead the parents are asking trustees to follow the bishops’ “Respecting Difference” strategy for tackling bullying. “A legal opinion we obtained [from lawyer Geoff Cauchi of RZCD Law Firm] argues Catholic trustees are obliged to refuse to implement Gay-Straight Alliances in Catholic schools ,” said Teresa Pierre, head of Parents As First Educators (PAFE), at a news conference in Toronto on Thursday. “Trustees have the legal right to avoid anything that would undermine the school’s religious character.” Pierre called portions of the anti-bullying Bill 13 “unnecessary and unconstitutional” in a  press release , arguing that mandatory GSAs “undermine” the Church’s teachings on the purpose of “sex and family” and forces Catholic schools to “violate” constitu

TORONTO, Ontario , June 25, 2012 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) - Dalton McGuinty ’s Education Minister has been named a “co-grand marshal” of this year’s Toronto Gay Pride parade . The honor comes in the wake of her efforts to push through the government’s homosexual “anti-bullying” bill that forces schools to accept “ gay-straight alliance ” clubs. Minister Laurel Broten will join New Democrat MPP Cheri Di Novo , who was named “co-grand marshal” as well for the recent success of her transgender bill, which enshrined non-discrimination protections based on “ gender identity ” and “gender expression.” Minister Laurel Broten The parade, which tops off ten days of festivities, takes place in Toronto on July 1st, Canada Day. Though organizers have tried to paint the parade as “family-friendly,” Toronto Pride is infamous for its public displays of full nudity, sado-masochistic attire, and public sex acts. “I feel really honoured and I’m very excited about it,” Broten said at the On

Gay-straight alliances starting up in Ontario elementary schools

Some schools have gay–straight alliances or similar groups to counter homophobia and bullying and provide support for LGBT students in school. (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) TORONTO, Teachers at elementary schools across Ontario are being encouraged to start up gay straight alliances to cater to children in even the earliest grades, reports the Toronto Star . The day before the passage of the McGuinty government’s controversial homosexual “rights” Bill 13 that forces homosexual activist clubs on all the province’s schools, the Star  reported  that a teacher at Toronto ’s Westwood Middle School , Natasha Garda, started a GSA last year. According to the paper, members of Garda’s elementary school gay-straight alliance “recently ran workshops for local Grade 5 students about gender stereotypes and homophobia,” during which “Westwood students presented a skit about gender stereotypes in which a boy is teased for wearing a pink shirt, and helped the younger students find stereotypes

Bill 13 committee multiplies problems in anti-bullying legislation

Image
June 5, 2012 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) - Today, Queen’s Park will hold the third and final vote on Bill 13, the  Accepting Schools Act . And thanks to last week’s efforts by the Committee tasked with reviewing and amending it, the already controversial bill is now even more divisive and constitutionally unstable. The Standing Committee on Social Policy , which was tasked with studying Bill 13 and Bill 14, held public hearings and heard from approximately 85 delegations, of which I was one. I appeared on behalf of the Coalition for Parental Rights in Education. During my presentation, and through my written submissions, I pointed to several sections of Bill 13 which were constitutionally problematic and would likely lead to constitutional challenges, resulting in years of taxpayer funded litigation. I recommended a series of amendments to Bill 13 which would have maintained Bill 13’s stated goal of bullying prevention, while eliminating many of its constitutional vulnerabilities.
