The Church’s position on homosexuality should definitely be that of mercy and pastoral care. But true mercy and pastoral care based on the loving concern for the wellbeing of those experiencing same-sex attraction. It is not loved or mercy to allow your children to rampantly misbehave without correcting them.  Parents will admit that it is often easier to turn the other way and purposely fail to notice misbehavior.  But out of love and mercy, parents must correct and discipline their children for the good of the children themselves. So too the Church, especially Her shepherds – the fathers of souls – must feed the flock, must teach the truths however difficult and politically incorrect.  That is true mercy and pastoral care. Attorneys from the nonprofit Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) are asking the state of New York to stop singling out and punishing a Christian adoption agency because of its religious beliefs. In an interview, ADF attorney Jeana Hallock said at today’s hearing before Judge Mae A. D’Agostino, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York heard the appeal by New Hope Family Services for a preliminary injunction against the state of New York. According to Hallock, D’Agostino expects to issue a ruling soon on that request and also a request for dismissal issued by attorneys for New York. According to ADF, New York’s Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) is threatening to shut down New Hope Family Services because of the religious nonprofit’s policy of prioritizing the placement of children for adoption in homes with a married mother and father. A Venezuelan cardinal has correctly underscored that homosexuality is the main “problem” that should be discussed in this week’s Vatican summit on clerical sexual misconduct with minors. In a statement released to the  National Catholic Register , Cardinal Jorge Urosa Savino, the Archbishop of Caracas, stated that 80 percent of abuse victims were male.  “ ... Having fallen foul of LGBTQ advocates, famed tennis star and openly lesbian Martina Navratilova was officially removed from the advisory board of a major LGBTQ organization because of comments she made about so-called transgenders. Navratilova released an op-ed in  The Sunday Times  on Feb. 17 where she wrote that “transgender” athletes should not be allowed to compete against biologically female athletes. She wrote that it is unfair for men to compete as women because of their innate physical advantage over biologically female athletes. Navratilova is widely considered the best female tennis player in history, having won Wimbledon nine times and 18 Grand Slam titles.
