The city had  issued a subpoena for the pastors' sermons  after five area clergy began an effort to repeal a city ordinance granting special rights to homosexuals and transgender people – such as giving them the same housing and employment status as racial minorities and allowing biological men to use female restrooms and locker rooms. “After much contemplation and discussion, I am directing the city legal department to withdraw the subpoenas issued to the five Houston pastors,” Mayor Annise Parker , an open lesbian, said today. Veteran gay activist David Mixner , 68, admitted Monday that the devastation of HIV/AIDS on seven friends and a lover in the 1980s drove him to murder them out of “mercy.” The revelation has a prominent anti-euthanasia activist calling for a criminal investigation. In a biographical stage show performed in front of influential politicians and gay rights activists sponsored by the Point Foundation , Mixner -- who has been on the forefront of the gay rights movement for four decades -- admitted that he killed the eight people in the 1980s. All of the people, according to Mixner, were in the final stages of HIV/AIDS. One of the eight was Peter Scott , with whom Mixner had a 12-year relationship. According to  The Daily Beast 's  Tim Teeman, who interviewed the activist after the show, Scott asked Mixner to help him die. The Slovak Constitutional Court issued a decision Wednesday to allow a pro-family referendum initiated by the Slovak Alliance for Family to move forward. Although in June the Slovak Parliament   approved , by a vote of 102 to 18, a constitutional amendment that defines marriage as a bond between a man and a woman, the Slovak Alliance for Family launched a petition calling for a national referendum to affirm four main points: that marriage is defined as a union of one man and one woman; that adoptive parents must be married, to provide the best environment for the children involved; that parents be allowed to opt out their children from school classes dealing in sex education and euthanasia; that same-sex registered partnerships be banned. The Family Alliance collected more than 400,000 signatures in its petition in support of the referendum before submitting the document to the President’s Office in August. Georgetown University ’s LGBTQ Resource Center and GU Pride are currently holding “OUTober,” an ongoing event celebrating “LGBTQ History Month,” according to  The Hoya . This year’s OUTober featured a “coming out day” and a lecture from a transgender activist. According to the  campaign description , this year’s theme for OUTober is “OUT FOR.” The description states that the theme “echoes Georgetown’s Jesuit values, highlighting the commitment and responsibility of Georgetown students as ‘men and women for others.’”  However, the event description makes no mention of Catholic teaching on human sexuality .
