Are young evangelicals abandoning the traditional view of marriage?

Image
February 26, 2014 ( BreakPoint ) - Dr. Rosaria Butterfield has an amazing story to tell—and it’s her story. A former lesbian feminist professor, she started studying Christianity in order to debunk it—but ended up embracing it. Today, she’s a dedicated Christian apologist , wife, and mother, with two books about the faith to her credit. Although some Christians will struggle with same-sex attraction their whole lives, she, in God’s grace, was able to leave it behind. So it’s not surprising that Wheaton College , one of the nation’s premier Christian colleges, invited Dr. Butterfield to tell her story at a chapel service. But some 100 students protested the chapel and what they called Dr. Butterfield’s “dangerous” message—a message that would only tell one side of the same-sex story. They held signs saying things like “Rosaria’s story is valid, mine is too,” and “I’m gay and a beloved child of God. That’s my story.” Dr. Butterfield graciously met and talked with these demo

‘Let’s get naked this Pride’: Gay editor defends nudity at Toronto’s ‘family friendly’ parade

TORONTO, February 26, 2014  – An editor at Canada ’s leading homosexual news agency has defended nudity at Toronto ’s annual Pride parade, which is billed as a “family friendly” event. It’s just “queer people celebrating their sexuality,” wrote Danny Glenwright, managing editor at  Xtra , last week in a piece titled “ Let's get naked this Pride .” A drag queen at Ottawa's Capital Pride in 2013. Glenwright defended exposing the public to what he called “our wanton sexuality and hedonism” as par for the course of expanding gay rights. “It’s what we do with our naked bodies that kept us gays down for so long,” he wrote. Glenwright mockingly suggested that those who have a problem with nakedness at the parade can “stay home” with their children and watch on TV “more palatable aspects of our world” such as “priests raping children.” “I prefer to leave that all behind for a few hours on Pride and head downtown to celebrate gay rights and gay sex — and to protest th

Republican AGs reject Holder’s legal advice, vow to defend marriage

WASHINGTON, D.C., February 26, 2014  – The Obama administration's newest foray into the culture wars has sparked a major pushback by the nation's Republican attorneys general. In an interview with  The New York Times   on Monday, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder   advised   state attorneys general that they could refuse to defend state bans on same-sex “marriage.” He compared the decision to not defend state bans with not defending Jim Crow laws in the 1950s South.  On Tuesday, the Republican Attorneys General Association (RAGA) slammed Holder's remarks. Montana Attorney General Tim Fox said, “What General Holder is asking state attorneys general to do is accept a gratuitously offered nonbinding legal opinion on an issue that has not been decided by a national court of competent jurisdiction at this time.” In other words, according to Fox, Holder is expressing his personal opinion on a matter that has not yet been decided by a court with national authorit

Homosexuality is morally protected behavior, judge rules in striking down Texas marriage amendment

SAN ANTONIO, TX , February 26, 2014 – A federal judge ruled today that a Texas law and subsequent constitutional amendment protecting marriage as the union of a man and woman violates the U.S. Constitution , which upholds “the moral and sexual choices of homosexuals.” U.S. District Judge for Western Texas Orlando Luis Garcia said the laws had no “rational relation to a legitimate governmental purpose” but simply reflected the bigotry of the citizens of Texas. “[U.S.] Supreme Court precedent prohibits states from passing legislation born out of animosity against homosexuals, has extended constitutional protection to the moral and sexual choices of homosexuals, and prohibits the federal government from treating state-sanctioned opposite-sex marriages and same-sex marriages differently,” he wrote in his decision invalidating the amendment, as well as a 2003 law. Some 76 percent of Texas voters supported Proposition 2 in 2005, despite being outspent by more than a quarter of

Pressure mounts on Arizona governor to veto bill protecting businesses that refuse services

Image
PHOENIX, AZ , February 26, 2014 – The backlash created by the  recent passage of Arizona’s SB 1092 , a bill to protect the religious freedom of business owners, continues to escalate as politicians, both Democrat and Republican, and various Arizonan businesses and public officials urge Governor Jan Brewer to veto the bill. Last week, SB 1062 was passed by Arizona’s legislature.  The bill protects business owners from lawsuits filed as a result of refusing their services to potential customers on the basis of religious belief.  This legislation has been blasted by both Republicans and Democrats as being discriminatory and biased, as it would allow business owners to deny working with and for same-sex “weddings.” Arizona’s Republican federal senators, John McCain and Jeff Flake ,  have declared their opposition to the bill .  “I know that the entire business community is galvanized, in a way that I’ve never seen, against this legislation,” said McCain.  In an interview with

Ireland’s ‘trans’ bill will grant state recognition to teens’ chosen gender

DUBLIN, February 26, 2014 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) – Ireland’s Parliament has proposed a bill that would allow 16 year-olds to have their “gender” changed on their birth certificates and passports. The Minister for Social Protection , Joan Burton , said she would bring the proposal to Parliament on Tuesday. The Gender Recognition Bill  proposes to have the state recognize a person’s “acquired gender” for all purposes, including birth certificates, marriage and civil partnership registries. The draft bill, brought forward in the summer, proposed setting the age limit at 18. But the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Education and Social Protection criticized this, saying that 16 year-olds can consent to surgery. The government has responded with a revision that allows 16-year-olds to have their new “gender” recognized by the state with parental consent. The committee wanted a section dropped that required married “transgendered” persons to obtain a divorce before the state would re

Gay marriage

Much has been said about this post,  including a good bit of heat toward me for putting on the front. There is much that could be said. I disagree with a lot of the theology. In particular, I disagree with this: Is Homosexuality a Sin ? I. Do. Not. Care. Luke 10 tells the story of a legal expert who queried Jesus about what was required to inherit eternal life. Christ turned the question back on its questioner, and this man whose entire life revolved around studying the law of God summed it up in two points: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘ Love your neighbor as yourself.’”And Christ informed him that he had it exactly right. That’s what is required to be a follower of Christ. I’m not called to hunt down sinful people, or question the faith of my friends and neighbors, or try to wield the power of the government to enforce my convictions on others.I’m called to love God, and love them
