Brazilian judge approves first same-sex ‘marriage’

Image
Image via Wikipedia A Brazilian judge approved the conversion of a same-sex couple ’s civil union into a legally recognized “marriage” on June 27th, making it the country’s first homosexual “marriage.” Sao Paulo state Judge Fernando Henrique Pinto said he based his ruling on a Supreme Court decision in May that approved civil unions, as well as on Brazil’s Constitution - which outlines how a civil union can be upgraded to a marriage - and a UN resolution against discrimination based on sexual orientation. The homosexual couple, identified on Globo television network as Sergio Kauffman Sousa and Luiz Andre Moresi, registered their civil union on May 17, and requested the conversion at a state court in the city of Jacarei , 85 km. northeast of Sao Paulo . It is not clear what wider implications Judge Pinto’s decision will have. Although Judge Pinto’s ruling can be overturned by a higher court, the homosexual couple told Globo TV that they would go to the Supreme Court if neces

Where’s the ‘pride’ when you bully someone to march in your gay parade?

Image
Image via Wikipedia Toronto Mayor Rob Ford has been slammed in the city’s media all week for his decision not to attend Sunday’s annual Pride parade and the related events. “My family comes first,” says Ford, explaining that they have a 30-year tradition of spending Canada Day weekend at their cottage in Huntsville.   “I’m carrying on a tradition my father had, last year I was there during the campaign, we’re there every year.” For the last week, there has been an unending slew of news articles, columns, and editorials in media such as the Toronto Star and Globe and Mail , all seemingly aimed at pressuring Ford to back down and show up for the parade. This morning, the Toronto Star reports that NOW Magazine has even offered to pay $4,000 for a private jet to fly him in for the parade and then back to the cottage.  “C’mon, Rob, there really is no excuse,” writes NOW editor Michael Hollett . But my question is: Why  should  he go? He has a perfectly sensible reason not to atten

San Diego parish priest says furor over funeral for gay bar owner was a ‘set-up’: report

Image
Image via Wikipedia An associate pastor at the San Diego Catholic church that  cancelled  a funeral Mass for the owner of a gay lounge earlier this week has reportedly said the controversy surrounding the events was a “set-up” by homosexual activists. A parishioner from Our Lady of the Rosary parish reported that the associate pastor, Rev. Louis M. Solcia, spoke about the controversy during a noon Mass on Tuesday, according to the  California Daily Catholic . In those remarks Rev. Solcia confirmed that the priests at the parish had decided that a funeral service , rather than a Mass, would be appropriate, given that the deceased, John Sanfilippo, was not practicing his Catholic faith , nor had he been to confession or received Last Rites before his death. The parish reportedly came to this decision after receiving a phone call from Sanfilippo’s homosexual partner, with whom he had been in a relationship with for many years. After the priests informed the family of the decisio

Rhode Island's gay civil unions: Bishop says, ‘God will … pass judgment upon our state’

Image
Image via Wikipedia “Can there be any doubt that Almighty God will, in His own time and way, pass judgment upon our state, its leaders and citizens, for abandoning His commands and embracing public immorality?”  That was how Providence Bishop Thomas Tobin reacted to today’s passage of legislation approving homosexual civil unions in Rhode Island . The Rhode Island Senate approved the final version of the bill by a vote of 21 to 16. Gov. Lincoln Chafee , who advocated the legalization of homosexual “marriage” in his inaugural address, is expected to sign it into law. The bill was passed by the House in May and made it through the Senate without amendment, despite opposition from both sides of the issue. Homosexual advocacy organizations have objected to the legislation because it includes a provision protecting religious entities, including hospitals and schools, from being forced to recognize the legal standing of same-sex unions. We weep over homosexual sins not celebrate them

Image
Image via Wikipedia Jesus died so that   heterosexual and homosexual sinners might be saved. Jesus created sexuality, and has a clear will for how it is to be experienced in holiness and joy. His will is that a man might leave his father and mother and cleave to his wife, and that the two become one flesh (Mark 10:6-9).  In this union, sexuality finds its God -appointed meaning, whether in personal-physical unification, symbolic representation, sensual jubilation, or fruitful procreation. For those who have forsaken God’s path of sexual fulfillment, and walked into homosexual intercourse or heterosexual extramarital fornication or adultery, Jesus offers astonishing mercy. Such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God (1 Corinthians 6:11). But last weekend this salvation from sinful sexual acts was not embraced. Instead there was massive celebration of sin. One estimate said

Andrew Cuomo support decadent immorality

Image via Wikipedia New York is obviously one of the most socially liberal states in the Union . There are, to be sure, many New Yorkers who reject sexual-liberationist ideology and believe in true marriage, which is why pro-marriage forces in the state were able to put up quite a fight, but they are not well-represented in the elite sector of society and at the moment they lack the powerful political leadership one finds on the other side.  There is no Chris Christie at the helm in New York. Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Mayor Michael Bloomberg , the state’s two most powerful and influential politicians, plainly buy much, if not all, of the ideology of sexual liberalism and publicly lead their lives in accordance with it. Although they claim to be supporters of marriage who merely want to “expand” the institution (or expand “access” to the institution) out of respect for what they regard as the civil rights of people to have their romantic partnerships (whatever their shape) recognized

Gay marriage is illogical

Image
Image via Wikipedia The norm for human beings is sexual reproduction which requires not same-sex but opposite-sex unions. At the most basic level, our survival as a species requires the coming together of male and female gametes . In human societies the way this essential union is symbolised is in the institution of marriage. This is how the centrality of the male-female partnership is celebrated in our culture and, in a non-religious sense, it is sacred; that is to say, heterosexuality is so important to our survival, so fundamental to the continuation of the species, that we have an ingrained sense that marriage as a heterosexual union should not be tampered with.  It symbolises in the social sphere the vital role that the male-female gamete union plays at the biological level.
