An influential U.S. school district is shutting down the ability of parents to give feedback on controversial policies such as its gender identity policy, concerned parents are saying.  The Fairfax County School Board (FCSB), serving one of the busiest suburbs of Washington D.C. , is in the process of introducing  new restrictions  for parents making comments during board meetings.   Among the restrictions parents have expressed concern about are rules that commenters may only speak about what the board allows on its agenda, banning anyone from speaking except the few who have previously signed up, and disallowing commenters from sharing speaking time. Ever since the FCSB ushered in a transgender policy allowing boys in the girls’ toilets, changing rooms, and showers in 2015, over 100 parents have barraged board meetings with criticism of the policy.  Comments include not only concern about the policy itself, but that it was enacted quickly without public debate instead

The London Early Years Foundation has “teamed up” with “ Drag Queen Story Time” to “connect children and drag queens through the art of storytelling and fun interactive events,” according to the chain’s press release. Drag Queen Story Time (DQST) is the brainchild of Bristol ’s Thomas Canham, a 25-year-old inspired by New York City’s Drag Queen Story Hour. When the producers of American television show “ RuPaul’s Drag Race ” tweeted news of the New York program, Canham tweeted back, “Why can’t we have something like this in the UK ?” To his surprise, the producers wrote back suggesting he start his own group. Canham, described as a “call centre employee” and as a “law student,” launched his Drag Queen Story Time project in May. Today I am launching a petition calling on the Palaszczuk government to stop the roll-out of the so-called “Safe Schools” program in Queensland . The federally funded “Safe Schools” program is billed as an anti-homophobia campaign, but really it is teaching gay sex and queer gender theory to kids. It’s even being rolled out in some primary schools . Let me be very clear, our schools should be safe for every student .  No one should have to suffer bullying and especially not at school. But “Safe Schools” goes way beyond an anti-bullying campaign.
