Tasmania's Transgender Green Candidate takes Catholic Church to Court over offense

The dragging of the nation’s Catholic Bishops before an Anti-Discrimination Commission for distributing a benign pastoral letter on marriage is a deeply disturbing development for free speech and religious freedom in Australia . It is a day that we at ACL hoped would not come. But we have been warning about it for years as political storm clouds of intolerance towards the message of Jesus in Australia have brewed. I have provided some context to the legal action below. But first, could I urge you to read the ACBC ’s pastoral letter, Don’t Mess with Marriage , and as an act of solidarity with the timeless truth about marriage, encourage you to share it with all of your friends on social media and even by email? We must tell our fellow Australians that basic teaching about marriage and family is considered illegal by some in our community and that they are prepared to use the law to shut down other peoples’ views. The Turnbull Government has promised that all Australians will have

Are there any consequences of redefining marriage - homosexual marriage?

Image
Consequences of redefining marriage Beyond the effects on spouses and on children, redefining marriage to include same-sex relationships will have far reaching consequences for all of us. The world around us influences the communities in which we live. Cultural and legal norms shape our idea of what the world is like, what’s valuable, and what are appropriate standards of conduct. And this in turn shapes individual choices.  That’s one of the main purposes of marriage law: to enable and encourage individuals to form and keep commitments of a certain kind. But if the civil definition of marriage were changed to include ‘same-sex marriage’ then our law and culture would teach that marriage is merely about emotional union of any two (or more?) people.  All marriages would come to be defined by intensity of emotion rather than a union founded on sexual complementarity and potential fertility. Husbands and wives, mothers and fathers, will be seen to be wholly interchangeable

‘Truly alarming’: Sydney archbishop decries gvmt investigation of bishop for defending marriage

SYDNEY, Australia,  -- Archbishop Anthony Fisher of Sydney has decried as “astonishing and truly alarming” the threat of legal action being brought against a brother bishop for distributing a pamphlet to local Catholic schools that supported Catholic teaching on marriage being between a man and woman. "Australia is party to treaties guaranteeing freedoms of religion and of speech, and regularly exhorts other nations to observe these. It is therefore astonishing and truly alarming that people might be proceeded against for stating traditional Christian beliefs on marriage,” the archbishop said last week in reaction to Archbishop of Hobart Julian Porteous having received notification from the Office of the Anti-Discrimination Commissioner that a complaint had been filed against him. A complaint from transgender activist Martine Delaney — a biological male who now says he is a woman — was launched after Archbishop Porteous distributed an 18-page pamphlet titled “ Don’t

Is this the future: Offend homosexuality and loose your job?

Robert Oscar Lopez is a tenured professor at California State University, Northridge , raised by lesbian parents, who has become an outspoken supporter of marriage and the inherent rights of children to know and be loved by their own mother and father. His is the rare voice in academia willing to speak up for marriage and the rights of children. This has made him a ferocious target of gay and lesbian activists bent on silencing him. Unless we act today   to stop these activists, Professor Lopez could face drastic punishment simply for facilitating a discussion about the rights of children in marriage and family relationships. The taxpayer-funded university where Professor Lopez teaches launched an inquisition against him, claiming he retaliated against students who complained of alleged "anti-gay" and "anti-women" discrimination after voluntarily attending a conference he helped organized at the Reagan Library. The conference was called, "Bonds t

Alberta gvmt delays bill removing parental right to protect kids from gay lessons after liberals complain it doesn’t go far enough

Some schools have gay–straight alliances or similar groups to counter homophobia and bullying and provide support for LGBT students in school. (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) Alberta Premier Jim Prentice has put a controversial bill dealing with gay clubs in schools on hold, because of opposition within his own caucus. The opposition is coming, reportedly, from small-“l” liberals who think the bill doesn’t go far enough to protect homosexual students from bullying, and not from Christians or social conservatives who believe the bill goes  too  far, in particular by removing parents’ right to withdraw their children from classes dealing with homosexuality. "We will pull back. We will pause," Prentice told reporters yesterday afternoon. While he was away all week a debate raged in the province over his bill. Alberta Christian parents will be spared for another day being stripped of their fundamental right to educate their children in their beliefs in their own schools.
