Alabama city withdraws bathroom privacy ordinance after LGBT pressure

A city in Alabama has recalled the ordinance it passed last week making it illegal for men to access women’s bathrooms. In the wake of Target’s new policy allowing men to access women’s bathrooms and vice versa, the city of Oxford, Alabama passed an   ordinance   prohibiting people to access bathrooms designated for the opposite sex, with an exception for parents accompanying small children, janitors, and emergency responders.  The Oxford City Council passed the ordinance in response to an “overwhelming” number of complaints about Oxford’s Target, City Council President Steven Waits said.  But in a special meeting Wednesday, council members voted 3-2 to repeal the ordinance, which had not yet been signed by the town’s mayor. Council President Steven Waits and Councilman Chris Spurlin voted in favor of keeping the ordinance.  Councilwoman Charlotte Hubbard, Councilman Phil Gardner, and Councilman Mike Henderson voted to withdraw the ordinance.  Previously, council had   unanimou

Tennessee bill to keep kids from using bathrooms of opposite sex moves forward

A bill requiring all students to use the bathrooms and other facilities that match their biological sex has unanimously passed a House subcommittee. While the bill is opposed by Governor Bill Haslam over concerns related to federal funding , Tennessee legislators defended it as necessary to balance the privacy of all students with compassion for those with gender identity disorder. Haslam has supported leaving gender identity and related facility decisions up to individual school districts. The bill is opposed by the ACLU . Many school boards and other political entities and individuals have expressed concern about the risk to federal funding if students are required to use restrooms, locker rooms , and other facilities that match their gender. However, legal precedent and federal law do not allow the Obama administration or any other federal entities to tie federal funding of any kind to gender identity and facility use,   according to attorneys at the Alliance De

Tennessee House passes resolution condemning Supreme Court gay ‘marriage’ decision

The Tennessee House of Representatives has passed a motion saying the Supreme Court case redefining marriage,   Obergefell v. Hodges , was wrongly decided and imposes a new understanding of the law “that is contrary to the express will of this body and the vote of the people of Tennessee.” A motion expressing legislators' views on the matter, House Joint Resolution 0529, passed the state House last Wednesday by a vote of 73-18. “I wrote this resolution because the legislature is without standing to sue the court over their decree that purported to make new law in Tennessee,” said Rep. Susan Lynn, R-Mount Joliet. Tennessee legislators voted to uphold marriage as the union of one man and one woman in 1996, 2004, and 2005. Then, state voters approved a constitutional marriage protection amendment by 81.3 percent in 2006. Although the   Obergefell   case was supposed to have “settled” the issue of same-sex “marriage,” polls show support for the new definition declining,

Safe Schools transgender awareness program could do more harm to kids than good

(Photo credit: Wikipedia ) AS parents send their children back to school, they might want to check if their primary or high school is signed up to the so-called Safe Schools Coalition Australia . One parent who did some checking was Cella White of Frankston in Victoria .   She has withdrawn her child from Frankston High School. Other parents across Australia are doing the same. In the name of anti-bullying , Safe Schools are urged to let boys who believe in their mind they are a girl to use the girls’ toilets, change facilities and even sleeping quarters on school camps. Safe Schools material contains posters of boys dressed in girls’ school uniforms with the message “gender is not uniform” and schools are encouraged to let children wear the uniform of their felt gender. Now gender dysphoria is a serious issue and no child should be bullied for any reason. But Safe Schools goes way beyon

State senator’s comments cause transgender backlash

Recent comments from a group of Republican South Dakota legislators on proposed legislation in the state have caused controversy among the transgender movement. In a discussion on a bill that would limit bathroom and shower facility use in South Dakota schools to students sharing the same gender, State Senator David Omdahl referred to individuals suffering from gender dysphoria as "twisted" due to their identity confusion and said they would benefit from psychological treatment. "I'm sorry if you're so twisted you don't even know who you are," said Omdahl, explaining the intent behind   HB 1008   at a legislative coffee this past Saturday. Omdahl first praised the bill, stressing that it was about protecting the state's children, before indicating that gender dysphoria would be better served by psychological treatment. "They're treating the wrong part of the anatomy. They ought to be treating it up here," he said, pointi
