Christian response to the gay lifestyle

Image
At the turn of the twentieth century, the sciences supposedly knew better than the Bible. Now, the social sciences supposedly know better than the Bible. And we are seeing this new world-view presented artfully and entertainingly through a barrage of media and in the halls of the academy. A casual watcher and listener will be exposed to countless gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals, acts, and ideas—and all without ever leaving mainstream media outlets. These are the times we live in. These challenges have a cumulative effect. They become self-fulfilling prophecies. The promoters and producers of this material not only want to make room for these biblically aberrant views, but they also want to increase the tribe. They want to silence anyone who would stand up against them. They want to oppose anyone who would say, “What you are promoting and doing is wrong.” The proverbial silver lining in these challenges to the Bible in our day is that they bring a great deal of clarity to

U.S. Supreme Court hears case of Christian who refused to bake gay ‘wedding’ cake

Image
The U.S. Supreme Court heard oral arguments today on whether a Christian baker should be forced to go against his religious beliefs and create a same-sex “wedding” cake when asked to. The baker fighting for his right to not celebrate a same-sex “wedding” by creating a cake for it is Jack Phillips of Masterpiece Cakeshop in Lakewood, Colorado . In 2012, a same-sex couple asked Phillips to create a cake for their “wedding.” Phillips is a Christian who won’t bake cakes celebrating Halloween, divorce, or bachelor parties. He referred the couple to another baker who was willing to participate in their union. With the help of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) , the couple pursued legal action against Phillips. Phillips and his staff were also ordered to undergo re-education and file quarterly “compliance” reports on their application of Colorado’s Anti-Discrimination Act for two years. In 2013, a lower court ruled that Phillips violated the Colorado Anti-Discrimination Act. In 2

Homosexuality and confused Catholics

Spokesman for James Martin Recommended Catholic LGBT Ministry: “I love di*k…” On July 16, 2017, James Martin, S.J., addressed the LGBT Ministry, Out at St. Paul, located at St. Paul the Apostle Parish in New York City . He  had previously spoken  to the group on March 2, 2017. In the past, Out at St. Paul sponsored and promoted  a Mass at the site of the Stonewall Riots ,  “Vogue” dance classes ,  a “gay” Jesus , and  an outing to a local gay bar . On several occasions, Martin has recommended both the Parish and Out at St. Paul (see  video interview , and a  Facebook live  discussion.) Following his July appearance at Out at St Paul, to publicize his latest book, “Building a Bridge: How the Catholic Church and the LGBT Community Can Enter Into a Relationship of Respect, Compassion, and Sensitivity,” Martin posted pictures to his Facebook account from the event  and thanked the following : Thanks to Fr. What does the Old and New Testament say about homosexuality?

Image
Homosexuality, a word for which there is no specific equivalent in the Hebrew Bible or in the Greek NT, since the concept of homosexuality as a “sexual orientation” originated only in the nineteenth century. Nevertheless, there are a few biblical references to people who engage in sexual acts with persons of the same sex. In the Hebrew Bible, the most explicit references to sexual acts between men are in the Holiness Code of Leviticus , where, under penalty of death, a male is strictly prohibited from lying with another male as he would with a woman (18:22; 20:13). In addition to these passages, the Bible contains two narratives in which men desire to have sexual relations with other men.  The first of these is set in the city of Sodom and provides the derivation for the term “sodomy,” which in modern English is sometimes used as a pejorative term for “homosexual sex acts.” In the biblical account, the men of Sodom intend to rape two male visitors who have come to the house of

Since many ancient peoples practiced homosexuality, what role should the Bible’s negative view about homosexuality have in modern thinking and culture?

Since many ancient peoples practiced homosexuality, what role should the Bible ’s negative view about homosexuality have in modern thinking and culture? The Revisionist Answer Homosexuality existed in many ancient cultures, including Egypt, Greece , and Rome . We can learn from these ancient cultures how to be tolerant of homosexuality alongside heterosexuality. These cultures should contribute to our culture as much as Jewish-Christian views. The Biblical Answer All ancient societies whose laws we have discovered restricted homosexual behavior , even though there usually was a level of acceptance. More to the point is the truism that any culture must be wary of tinkering with its foundational ethical underpinnings by embracing other societies’ standards. Other cultures have influenced modern Western culture , yet the morality of the West has flowed from a biblical ethic. Ancient cultures embraced slavery, recreational drugs and alcohol abuse, abortion, the killing of th

New Massachusetts law may force churches to let ‘transgender’ men use women’s restrooms

Image
Churches could be affected in the state of Massachusetts by a new law that forces transgender acceptance on all citizens. The state law, passed by the Massachusetts legislature in June, adds "gender identity" to anti-discrimination laws, equating self-chosen sexual preference with immutable characteristics such as race and biology. In July, Governor Charlie Baker, a Republican, betrayed a campaign promise and signed the bill into law. The new transgender-affirming law is to take effect on October 1. The Massachusetts Commission Against Defamation (MCAD), which will enforce the new law, issued a "Gender Identity Guidance" directive on September 1 to explain the law in practical terms.  The directive raises grave concerns among Christians that the government is forcing churches to facilitate homosexual and transgender ideology against their religious freedoms. The MCAD directive lists compliance requirements for employers, landlords, credit and mortgag

The senior pastor and elders of San Francisco's evangelical City Church will no longer require members to abstain from homosexual practice, so long as the homosexual activity occurs in the context of marriage. As a church inspired by Tim Keller’s Redeemer Presbyterian Church in New York City and founded in the Reformed tradition, City Church is supposed to give preeminence to Scripture. Instead, on the matter of homosexual practice, the Pastor and Elder Board gave preeminence to their flawed judgment regarding what conduces more to human flourishing and, oddly, to a scripturally misguided book written by former Vineyard pastor Ken Wilson. ............................................................................................................ The senior pastor and elders of San Francisco's evangelical City Church will no longer require members to abstain from homosexual practice, so long as the homosexual activity occurs in the context of marriage. Gay first now: Incest should should be legal, says German government’s Ethics Council

Image
Incest laws could be scrapped in Germany after the government's ethics council said sex between brothers and sisters should be legal and is a 'fundamental right'. The council recommended that the right of 'adult siblings to sexual self-determination' was more important then the 'abstract idea of protection of the family'. It comes after the case of Patrick Stuebing, who was jailed for more than three years after having four children - two of which are disabled - with his sister Susan Karolewski. The German Ethics Council has suggested that sex between brothers and sisters should be legalised Stuebing was put up for adoption as a toddler and only met his sister when he was 24 and she was 16. He was imprisoned for incest in 2008. He made an unsuccessful appeal to the European Court of Human Rights in 2012 over his right to a family life - as he and Ms Karolewski were split up and three of their children were taken into care. The youngest was allowed to r

You know what’s ‘anti-gay’? Refusing to proclaim the fullness of the Gospel

The horrible massacre that occurred in Orlando over the weekend has shaken the United States.  Faith leaders and those on both sides of the political aisle have come together to condemn the attack, mourn the precious lives that were unjustly ended, and seek to create a world in which this kind of unspeakable tragedy isn’t able to happen. While numerous commentators have also seized on the event to advance the gay political agenda and target Christians who oppose that agenda, perhaps the most curious reactions to the attack have come from several Catholic bishops. These bishops have used this terrorist attack to decry “anti-gay prejudice” within the Catholic Church and, and one even   claimed that Catholicism “breeds contempt”   for those with same-sex attractions and gender confusion. Shockingly, St. Petersburg, Florida Bishop Robert Lynch   claimed that Catholics   were partly responsible for the terrorist attack. “Sadly it is religion, including our own, which targets, mo

Obama admin threatens to withhold billions from North Carolina over bathroom privacy law

Image
The Obama Administration is making noises about cutting North Carolina off from federal funding after last month’s legislative move by the governor and some state lawmakers to protect the state’s residents’ privacy and safety. Administration officials announced Friday they were reviewing whether the   Public Facilities Privacy and Security Act   overturning a Charlotte city ordinance allowing men to use women’s restrooms and showers should result in the federal government withholding funding for schools, highways and housing, to the tune of billions of dollars. Experts have indicated that such an extreme step was not likely, at least not right away, according to The Charlotte Observer , but the administration’s review is sending a message to North Carolina that there could be consequences for its new law. After a statewide outcry against the Charlotte ordinance, the state’s General Assembly passed HB2 in a   special session   March 23, with Governor Pat McCrory signing i
