Obama should be impeached for not upholding the DOMA

President Obama’s position on the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) is “an impeachable offense,” according to Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain . Presidential candidate Herman Cain told attendees on the conference call that impeaching Obama would be "a great thing to do." Cain made the controversial remarks during an evening conference call last Tuesday with bloggers, during which he also admitted that any impeachment effort based upon Obama’s actions on DOMA will not “get off the ground” because Republicans do not control the U.S. Senate . The presidential candidate was referring to Obama’s  order earlier this year  to the Department of Justice not to defend the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), which defines marriage federally as a union between one man and one woman, in court. “The president is supposed to uphold the laws of this nation … and to tell the Department of Justice not to uphold the Defense of Marriage Act is a breach of his oath,” said Cain, who al

Appeals court re-allows ‘don’t ask don’t tell,’ but blocks military discharges

Image via Wikipedia A federal appeals court in San Francisco has agreed to the U.S. Justice Department ’s request to allow the federal government to resume enforcement of the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” ( DADT ) policy temporarily.  The move allows the Pentagon to continue its job of certifying the military’s readiness to accept homosexual troops into the ranks. Earlier this month, a three-judge panel of the 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals had lifted a stay on a lower court’s order that requires the U.S. military to end enforcement immediately of the ban on homosexuals serving in the armed forces. District Judge Virginia Phillips ’ ruling, issued in October 2010, made illegal the U.S. enforcement of the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy and 10 U.S.C. § 654, the 1993 law banning homosexuals from military service. The Associated Press reports that the federal appeals court agreed Friday to re-impose the stay on Phillip’s worldwide order they had lifted on July 6 – but with a provision tha

Battle for same-sex ‘marriage’ destroying U.S. democracy

Image
Image via Wikipedia  The leader of the U.S. Catholic bishops ’ committee tasked with defending marriage this week stated that political elites in the United States are subverting democracy and using the issue of same-sex “marriage” to consolidate power into their hands, away from the people. “It is a curious irony that in this moment of history, when people in a number of countries in the Middle East are agitating for change from dictatorship to democracy, here in our own country, the oldest democracy with a written constitution in the world, there is a movement of the ruling class toward taking more and more power into its own hands,” wrote Oakland Bishop Salvatore Cordileone, chairman of the USCCB ad hoc committee for the defense of marriage, in  a column  for the Catholic Voice , Oakland’s diocesan newspaper. Cordileone said the flashpoint for this political takeover is marriage and that the actions of political elites should alarm both opponents and supporters of same-sex “ma

Same sex marriage

Image via Wikipedia Why does same-sex marriage make sense to so many people? The momentum toward the full legalization of same-sex marriage seems to intensify with every passing month — or even faster.  The moral divide is now seen most clearly in the distance between those for whom marriage is exclusively heterosexual and thus a settled issue and, on the other hand, those who honestly see the legalization of same-sex marriage as a moral mandate required by justice . Given the venerable status of marriage and its universally established heterosexual character — at least until very recently — the burden of argument falls on the need to explain how such a movement for a moral revolution gained credibility, cultural mass, and momentum.  How did this happen? A culture does not consist only of ideas and ideologies, but no culture exists without them. Given the complexity of any culture, a comprehensive map of these ideas, moral intuitions, and philosophies is impossible to create.  N
