Same-sex ‘marriage’ begins in Florida because one judge said so

(Photo credit: Wikipedia ) Florida became the 36 th  state to legalize same-sex “marriage” Tuesday, after an injunction blocking enforcement of U.S. District Judge Robert Hinkle ’s ruling that the state’s marriage protection law unconstitutional expired without intervention from a higher court. Most counties in Florida proceeded as if the issue had been decided, but state officials are still pursuing appeals with the 11 th  Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court .  While the 11 th  Circuit is unlikely to overturn Hinkle’s decision, the entire nation awaits a possible decision from the Supreme Court, which has so far refrained from directly ruling on the constitutionality of laws that define marriage as a union between one man and one woman. Meanwhile, officials in at least three counties refused to participate in same-sex “wedding” ceremonies Tuesday, including in Duval County , where Court Clerk Ronnie Fussell closed down the courthouse chapel ent

Judge overturns Tennessee ban on same-sex ‘marriage’: true marriage laws are historical ‘footnotes’

ATLANTA, GA , March 17, 2014 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) – A federal judge on Friday issued an injunction temporarily blocking enforcement of Tennessee’s constitutional ban on same-sex “marriage,” noting in her decision that she believes laws defining marriage as a union between one man and one woman will soon be nothing more than historical “footnotes.” “At this point, all signs indicate that, in the eyes of the United States Constitution , [same-sex] marriages will be placed on an equal footing with those of heterosexual couples and that proscriptions against same-sex marriage will soon become a footnote in the annals of American history,” wrote Judge Aleta Trauger .  Trauger’s order means that the state must recognize – at least for now – the “marriages” of three homosexual couples who married in states where the practice is legal and have sued to overturn the 2006 ban.  The order currently applies only to those directly involved in the case. (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) NASHVILLE, Tennessee , June 26, 2012 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) - A new law banning explicit sex education, spearheaded after an anti- AIDS group two years ago demonstrated oral sex on anatomical models in front of high schoolers, took effect in Tennessee this week. The law emerged after one Nashville parent in 2010 learned his 17-year-old daughter’s class had seen the performance of “safe” oral sex by the anti-AIDS group, Nashville CARES. “It took me by surprise,” Rodrick Glover told The Tennessean at the time. “My daughter thought it was pornography.” In response, the Tennessee gay news source Out and About  targeted  Glover as numbering among “fundamentalist bigots” who oppose the methods of Nashville CARES because the group “does not discriminate based on sexual orientation and, in fact, is considered to be gay-affirming.”

Christian employment policies with gays

Image via Wikipedia In December, Congress and President Obama ended the era of Don't Ask, Don't Tell ( DADT ) in the United States military . Today, American political culture is far more open to gay members of the armed forces than it was in 1993, when President Clinton created his famous compromise. In civilian life, Don't Ask, Don't Tell attitudes are also fading. Once, this quiet accommodation to the presence of gays in our midst afforded the luxury of ambiguity, allowing heterosexuals to be friendly and supportive of gay coworkers, friends, and family without having to deal head-on with their sexuality.  In order to be good neighbors, evangelical Christians have often chosen not to deal with the subject, making mental distinctions between their personal beliefs and their family and community relationships. But Christian institutions—colleges, campus ministries, publishers, and aid organizations among them—can no longer enjoy the ambiguity that DADT attitudes tra
