Tasmania’s absurd push for gay ‘marriage’

Image
Flag of Tasmania (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) The results of grafting two heads onto one government body became painfully clear in the Australian state of Tasmania last week. Labor Premier Lara Giddings and her coalition partner, Greens leader Nick McKim , jointly guided a same-sex marriage bill through the lower house on Thursday. It was the first time that an Australian house of parliament had passed such a bill. This, said Ms Giddings, would erase Tasmania’s reputation as the “laughing-stock” of Australia. Mr McKim praised the bill even more rapturously: “Romans chapter 13, verse 10 says, ‘Love does no harm to its neighbour; therefore love is the fulfilment of the law’. We are here today to give full expression to love in the laws of our state.” Even though Tasmania is an island state with only half a million people, this is a significant event. The bill’s fate in the upper house is far from certain. However, if it does become law, it will strengthen the case for sam

NSW churches urge Premier to rule out gay marriage laws

Flag of Tasmania (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) The NSW Council of Churches has urged Premier Barry O’Farrell to assure voters that he will not introduce a same-sex marriage bill in the NSW Parliament . The Council also sought confirmation from the Premier that, should a same-sex marriage bill be introduced by a private member or another political party, the bill would not be given priority and Coalition members would not be given a conscience vote. The move comes after Tasmanian Premier Lara Giddings announced on Sunday that her government would pursue legislative reform to allow same-sex marriage in Tasmania . NSW Council of Churches President, Revd Dr Ross Clifford , said such a move would undermine longstanding Australian cultural and heritage values, and lead to chaos and confusion with respect to the recognition of marriage across state borders. “The Tasmanian plan indicates that a federal same-sex marriage bill is expected to fail due to lack of public support for such radic

Tasmania tells Australia Homosexual marriage is needed?

The Prime Minister is again under pressure on the issue of gay marriage as the Labor Premier of Tasmania , Lara Giddings , said she would face down any constitutional challenge of proposed legislation for same-sex marriage in her state. The proposed Tasmanian legislation is a departure from Ms Gillard 's vocal political and personal opposition to same-sex marriage and yesterday she made it clear she considered gay marriage to be a federal concern. ''The Marriage Act is a federal law and we do have a bill before the federal Parliament dealing with same-sex marriage,'' the Prime Minister told reporters in Cairns . ''I determined that this should be a conscience vote for the Labor Party and people will be free to determine how they vote.'' The Greens called upon Ms Gillard to rule out a constitutional challenge to the Tasmanian legislation but she did not. ''We don't have any details on [the Tasmanian gay marriage bill], so it's fa

LNP does back flip on Homosexual civil unions

English: Campbell Newman. (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) The Queensland Government says it will not repeal same-sex civil union laws in the state, but the legislation will be amended. After promising that they would repeal the Civil Union Act, Premier Campbell Newman and his Attorney-General have decided civil partnerships will still be formally registered, but there will be no state-sanctioned ceremonies. The original bill was rushed through Parliament by the then Labor government  in order to gave votes from homosexuals in the seat of Mt. Cootha, before the March state election, prompting the LNP to promise it would look into repealing them. The ALP lost his seat anyways. Mr Newman is pro gay marriage and declared as much during the election campaign, even though his party's official position is against it. He says changes to the Civil Partnerships Act are a sensible compromise and will preserve couples' rights. "[They are] minimal amendments that will keep, if

Same-sex ‘marriage’ could force churches to stop performing legal marriages altogether: archbishop

ROME, October 19, 2011 – The legalization of same-sex “marriage” in Australia could push Christian churches out of their historic role in solemnizing legal marriages altogether, according to on Image via Wikipedia e archbishop. Archbishop Barry Hickey of the archdiocese of Perth   said  late last month that the archdiocese would cancel its registration that allows it to celebrate legal marriages if the government attempted to force them to participate in same-sex ceremonies. “We might be back to the ghetto,” Hickey told parishioners at St. Ninian and St. Chad in Maylands. “We can’t do those marriages at all. And if the law forces us to, we cancel our registration as marriage celebrants. We just don’t do it.” Image via Wikipedia Hickey added, “We continue to perform Church marriages but we can’t perform the marriage where there is a basic objection.” “We might be back to the ghetto,” Hickey told parishioners at St. Ninian and St. Chad in Maylands. “We can’t do those marriages at

Tasmanian pro-homosexual left wing pollies gear up to challenge Federal Marriage Act

Image via Wikipedia TASMANIA, Australia , October 1, 2011  – Tasmania’s lower House of Assembly has become the first Australian parliament to pass a motion backing homosexual ‘marriage.’ The same-sex marriage  motion  that passed 13-9 on Sept 21 was put forward by Green leader and Education Minister Nick McKim . It called for “in-principle support for marriage equality” and for the Australian Government to amend the Commonwealth Marriage Act to include homosexual ‘marriage’ in the name of “marriage equality.” The motion is in conflict with Australia’s Marriage Amendment Bill of 2004, which states that,” Marriage means the union of a man and a woman to the exclusion of all others, voluntarily entered into for life.” The Marriage Bill also specifies that certain unions are not marriages and therefore cannot be recognized as such in Australia, including unions solemnized in foreign countries between two men or between two women. The Labour Party supported the new motion, while the Libera

Gays get your hands off marriage

Image via Wikipedia Revising marriage would cause harm At the heart of the argument for same-sex marriage lies  the revisionist propositions that same sex marriage  harms no-one, and that to deny gay and lesbian couples                                                             Marriage is not a denial of natural justice. But under these  proposals, marriage would be totally changed. Marriage  would be something else. It would place adult sexual  choice and emotional commitment at the centre. In other  words, marriage would not be about securing the rights of  children, but rather meeting the needs of adults .  Under  these conditions (rarely articulated, but nevertheless the  case), there is of course no reason why marriage rights  should not be granted to polyamorous relationships, or  indeed any other type of sexual relationship.  Indeed, it is  unclear even why sexual activity should be the focal point   – why couldn’t long term housemates or inseparable  golfing pa
