50 years of sex changes, mental disorders, and too many suicides

The  New York Daily News  gossip column reported a girl was making the rounds in Manhattan clubs who admitted to being a man in 1965. She had undergone a sex-change operation in Baltimore at the Johns Hopkins gender clinic. By 1979, thirteen years later, enough gender surgeries had been performed to evaluate the results. It was time for a report card based on actual patients. 1970s: How effective was the change surgery? What were the outcomes for transgender people? The first report comes from Dr. Harry Benjamin , a strong advocate for cross-gender hormone therapy and gender-reassignment surgery, who operated a private clinic for transsexuals. According to an  article  in the  Journal of Gay & Lesbian Mental Health , “By 1972, Benjamin had diagnosed, treated, and befriended at least a thousand of the ten thousand Americans known to be transsexual.” Dr. Benjamin’s trusted colleague, endocrinologist Charles Ihlenfeld administered hormone therapy to some 500 transgen

In the war on family life, why are most American men neutral observers?

What will it take to rouse the protective instincts of American fathers? The role of a father is to protect his family. The role of a man—a real man, I mean—is to protect the vulnerable. Yet the vast majority of American men today are sitting idly by, couch-potato spectators, while their families are menaced and their vulnerable neighbors victimized. For over 40 years now, we have tolerated the destruction of unborn children. We have averted our gaze as more and more elderly hospital patients succumbed to the effects of the steadily increasing morphine drip. We have allowed Planned Parenthood to encourage high-school students toward promiscuity, and homosexual activists to recruit adolescents to their cause. So is it any surprise that the vanguard of the sexual revolution has advanced further into our lives? Let me cite just a few frightening cases: In Massachusetts , the state’s highest court has ruled  that the names of some criminals convicted of sexual vio

The Danish Girl is nonsense. I would know. I was once a transgender woman.

When would the predictable sound bites be over? The Danish Girl  is stuffed with fluffy, gooey sentiments designed to convince “homophobic” or “transphobic” heterosexuals that the painful twists and turns of a transgender person’s life are really a healthy and courageous quest to embrace his or her true self. The film overflows with familiar LGBT talking points. At a key moment, the lead character exclaims, “I finally am who I am!” The Danish Girl , based on the novel of the same name by David Ebershoff and directed by Tom Hooper , tells the story of Lilli Elbe , one of the first known recipients of sex-reassignment surgery . The movie stars Eddie Redmayne in the role of Einar Wegener/Lilli Elbe, the emerging transgender female. Alicia Vikander

If a transgender individual gets saved, should the church require them to undergo a restorative sex change operation so that they are anatomically their original gender?

Eventually, every church will face a question like this. The first thing we must remember is that the gospel is for everyone-regardless of gender identity . The gospel is for the transgender and the transsexual just as much as it is for the one who identifies with his birth gender. The gospel promises wholeness in Christ and calls us to holiness.  Thus, in response to the gospel, all true Christians seek to live in obedience to the God who created us male and female. Obedience to Christ means that we seek in every way to progressively move toward embracing our birth gender rather than lingering in rebellion or confusion. This is not to suggest that the progress of sanctification is easy or instantaneous. As Eugene Peterson said, the Christian life is "a long obedience in the same direction." In other words, obedience can be slow progress. What if the individual had undergone medical procedures and  sex change operations before coming to Christ? Would surger

I was a transgender woman…and here’s how it nearly killed me

April 8, 2015 ( ThePublicDiscourse.com ) -- It was a pivotal scene. A mom was brushing a boy’s long hair, the boy slowly turned his head to look at her. In a tentative voice, he asked, “Would you love me if I were a boy?” The mom was raising her boy to become a trans-girl . In that split second, I was transported back to my childhood. I remembered my grandmother standing over me, guiding me, dressing me in a purple chiffon dress. The boy in that glowing documentary about parents raising transgender kids dared to voice a question I always wanted to ask. Why didn’t she love me the way I was? I am haunted by that boy and his question. What will the trans-kids of 2015 be like sixty years from now? Documentaries and news stories only give us a snapshot in time. They are edited to romanticize and normalize the notion of changing genders and to convince us that enlightened parents should help their children realize their dreams of being the opposite gender. I want to tell you my st
