When they do, it is tantamount to cultural suicide, and we should not be surprised at the cultural and social degradation sure to follow. William Bennett writes in his book The De-Valuing of Society, “Our common culture … embodies truths that most Americans can recognize and examine for themselves. These truths are passed down from generation to generation, transmitted in the family, in the classroom, and in our churches and synagogues.” But the truths of our culture and the traditional American family are now being attacked and demagogued like never before in our history in the name of “tolerance” and “rights.” Granting homosexuals a newly created “right” to marry will have unimaginable detrimental effects on society. Such a treatment is erroneous because state recognition of marriage is not a universal right. States regulate marriage in many ways besides denying men the right to marry men, and women the right to marry women. Roughly half of all states prohibit first cousins from marrying, and all prohibit marriage of closer blood relatives , even if the individuals being married are sterile. In all states, it is illegal to attempt to marry more than one person, or even to pass off more than one person as one’s spouse. Some states restrict the marriage of people suffering from syphilis or other venereal diseases . Homosexuals, therefore, are not the only people to be denied the right to marry the person of their choosing. The existence of future generations of children is fundamental to the survival of any society . The quality of their nurture is directly related to the quality of life within that society. Bonding the man and woman whose sexual union produces a child to one another and to that child is by far the healthiest way of insuring that nurture. Image via Wikipedia Liberty Counsel ’s Matt Barber was rejoicing today on his radio show over a decision by a federal court which affirmed the state of Louisiana ’s decision  not to issue a birth certificate  including both of the names of the two men who were adopting a child born in the state. According to Barber, the court’s ruling damages the prospects of marriage equality across the nation. Barber, who recently said that progressives and radical Muslims were working together to “destroy” God , said that “ homosexual activists ” are part of an “anti-marriage movement” whose goal isn’t marriage but to bring about “an act of rebellion against God.” Barber  claims : Really, this is an anti-marriage movement. Providing for the future means bearing, educating and socializing children; children are our social security, economically, physically and emotionally.
