Obama ‘fist-bumps’ gay cashier over sex joke

Image
President Obama seems to have been in a jovial mood during his  bizarre  fundraising tour of Texas and Colorado last week. While persistently ignoring the pleas of legislators from his own party to make a side trip to the Mexican border to address the humanitarian crisis as  thousands of abandoned children  make their way into the United States , the leader of the free world found time to  play a game of pool ,  laughingly decline a marijuana joint  offered to him in Colorado (where the drug was recently legalized), and  cut in line  to drop $300 on barbecue at an Austin restaurant. But perhaps most baffling was his reaction to the cross-dressing cashier at the barbecue joint, who – while not dressed in drag during their encounter – decided to use his thirty seconds of interaction with the president to promote the gay agenda. “Equal rights for gay people!" shouted Daniel Rugg Webb, a stand-up comedian, musician, and part-time employee at Franklin Barbecue, slamming hi

Not so fast: That Australian study on gay parenting tells us almost nothing useful

“Kids from same-sex families fare as well as peers – or better” claims the heading of an  article  by an Australian academic repeated in the  New York Times ,  Washington Post , the  Guardian  and many other media outlets this week. Children with same-sex attracted parents are “doing well in terms of their overall health”, their “families are getting along really well”, says Simon Crouch. Actually, they are doing “better” than average on those points, but they do “experience stigma”, which explains any “lower scores” on certain measures. So we have to get rid of that stigma somehow… It’s a familiar story, and if this one seems particularly  deja vu  it is because we heard it all a year ago, when interim results from the Australian Study of Child Health in Same-Sex Families (ACHESS) were published with similar upbeat headlines. Dr Crouch, himself an  openly  homosexual man with twin boys aged about 5, and his University of Melbourne team, couldn’t wait to tell the good news to a p

Methodists Debate Punishing Pastors Who Perform Same-Sex Marriages

JANINE AND JIM EDEN/FLICKR A same-sex marriage ceremony at a United Methodist Church in New York The trial of a United Methodist Church (UMC) minister who performed a same-sex marriage ceremony has been halted by a bishop before it began. Meanwhile, a retired UMC bishop may face a trial of his own for a similar ceremony. Bishop Martin McLee of New York committed this week to stopping all such trials in his region. The New York Times has the details . Meanwhile, Religion News Service reports on the latest (and highest-ranking) dissident to potentially face punishment , and assesses how geography is shaping the "emerging dynamic that allows some pastors in the country's second-largest Protestant denomination to skirt rules banning clergy from performing same-sex wedding , while others risk costly church trials and the loss of clergy credentials." "The just resolution provisions of the Book of Discipline are clear in voicing just resolution as the pref

Republican AGs reject Holder’s legal advice, vow to defend marriage

WASHINGTON, D.C., February 26, 2014  – The Obama administration's newest foray into the culture wars has sparked a major pushback by the nation's Republican attorneys general. In an interview with  The New York Times   on Monday, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder   advised   state attorneys general that they could refuse to defend state bans on same-sex “marriage.” He compared the decision to not defend state bans with not defending Jim Crow laws in the 1950s South.  On Tuesday, the Republican Attorneys General Association (RAGA) slammed Holder's remarks. Montana Attorney General Tim Fox said, “What General Holder is asking state attorneys general to do is accept a gratuitously offered nonbinding legal opinion on an issue that has not been decided by a national court of competent jurisdiction at this time.” In other words, according to Fox, Holder is expressing his personal opinion on a matter that has not yet been decided by a court with national authorit

Christians Business refusal to not support homosexual marriage ceremonies not comparable to racials egregation

I’m sure you’ve heard the argument: A Christian who refuses to support  same-sex marriage is like a business owner in the segregated South who refused to serve black people. If you refuse to use your skill to profit off something that you find sinful, so the argument goes, are you not exactly like those businesses that turned African-Americans away? Here are two real-life examples: there was a  baker in Oregon  who refused to make a cake for a same-sex wedding . The Oregon Labor Commission found that this was illegal discrimination. The baker was forced to go out of business, or face fines of hundreds of thousands of dollars. He ended up closing his doors. Then there  was the photographer in New Mexico  who was asked to shoot a same-sex wedding. She refused, basically saying because she thought the marriage was sinful, she was not sure her pictures would present the ceremony in the best light, so to speak (she in turn recommended other photographers who could do the wedding).

God's judgement is greater than a Court fine for refusing to marry, bake a cake, take photograph for homosexual marriage

Nevada governor says he won’t defend state’s marriage amendment

CARSON CITY, NV , February 11, 2014 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) – On the heels of the announcement by Virginia's attorney general that he will not defend the constitutional amendment enshrining marriage as between a man and a woman, Nevada 's attorney general and governor are following suit. Approved by voters and added to the state constitution in 2002, the Nevada amendment (which can be seen in full  here ) has been challenged by eight same-sex couples. Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto and Gov. Brian Sandoval , who defended the law just last month, had previously filed in support of the amendment in November 2012. Gov. Brian Sandoval However, Masto has now  declared  that since the 9 th   Circuit Court of Appeals has said sexual orientation cannot be the sole reason for taking potential jurors off of a jury, “the state has determined that its arguments grounded upon equal protection and due process are no longer sustainable.” Gov. Sandoval, who is seek
