Oregon will not uphold the law and not defend state ban on gay marriage

Ellen Rosenblum accused of picking and choosing which laws to uphold and which laws to ignore. Either be impeached or the people call for her immediate resignation. Oregon will not defend a ban on gay marriage in the state, which was sued by four same-sex couples who argue the prohibition violates equality guarantees enshrined in the U.S. Constitution , the state's top law enforcement official said on Thursday. The decision by Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum to NOT uphold the law, makes Oregon the third state in the past month to illegally cease defense in federal court of gay marriage bans, after Nevada and Virginia , as activists fight for legalization across the United States . "The law in this area is developing, and it is now clear that there is no rational basis for Oregon to refuse to honor the commitments made by same-sex couples in the same way it honors the commitments of opposite-sex couples," Rosenblum, a Democrat, said in announcing the decision. But

Obama administration to supersede state rights by granting same-sex ‘marriage’ benefits nationwide

WASHINGTON, D.C. , February 10, 2014 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) – Same-sex “marriage” advocates are one step closer to full federal recognition of their relationships after Attorney General Eric Holder announced that the Obama administration would provide benefits and services regardless of state laws about marriage. On Saturday, Holder said that the federal government would “strive to ensure that same-sex marriages receive the same privileges, protections and rights as opposite-sex marriages.” A Human Rights Campaign blog post  said  this “will mean that the federal government will treat married lesbian and gay couples the same as heterosexual couples when they do things like file for bankruptcy, testify in court or visit family in prison.” The Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), which was signed by President Clinton two decades ago, was overturned by the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) last year. The majority ruled in favor of state independence on the matter, over

Virginia Attorney General faces growing impeachment calls over refusal to defend marriage amendment

RICHMOND, VA, January 31, 2014 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) – New Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring is facing increased calls for impeachment in light of his decision to not defend his state's marriage amendment. After he announced the decision last week, Herring  faced  an impeachment call from the National Organization for Marriage . Those calls have now expanded to include  Tea Party Nation's Judson Phillips  and unnamed  grassroots conservative organizations . Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring Republicans hold the state House in Virginia, which is where impeachment hearings are held . Since Herring holds the position of Attorney General, the House has the right to appoint prosecutors “according to the laws of the land.” In 2006, Herring voted for the state's marriage amendment that would respect marriage as between a man and a woman, which was approved by a majority of state voters. Since then, Herring says his position has changed, and he now supports sa

Virginia Attorney General won’t uphold state marriage amendment

RICHMOND, VA, January 27, 2014 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) – Only weeks after taking his oath of office, Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring is already violating it by opposing the state's amendment keeping marriage between a man and a woman, say critics. “As a legislator, Herring supported this Constitutional Amendment . Now, as Attorney General, he is using the power of his office to actively oppose it,” Eve Marie Barner Gleason, a member of the Virginia Republic State Central Committee, told LifeSiteNews. “This is exactly backwards. As a legislator, he was free to oppose the amendment, but as Attorney General, he is bound by his honor and oath of office to defend it.” Herring, who voted to prevent same-sex “marriage” from becoming legal in 2006,  told  Politico  that his position has changed and “as attorney general I cannot and will not defend laws that violate Virginians’ rights.” According to  Politico,  Herring said he has pledged “to put the law and put Virginians

U.S. Supreme Court halts Utah gay ‘marriages’

Washington, D.C., January 6, 2014 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) – In a shock to homosexual activists, the Supreme Court  halted  all same-sex “marriages” in Utah on Monday morning. The state began handing out marriage licenses to same-sex couples  last month  after Judge Robert Shelby's ruling that Utah's voter-approved constitutional amendment defining marriage as between a man and a woman violates the U.S. Constitution . However, last week, Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes  asked  the Supreme Court to “stay” Judge Shelby's decision until the state's appeal makes its way through the courts.  "The decision by a single federal judge to redefine marriage in Utah is lawless," said Brian Brown of the National Organization for Marriage today. In  the request  for stay, Reyes argued that a stay is consistent with the Supreme Court's decision in  Windsor v. United States , which overturned a key portion of the federal Defense of Marriage Act , that marriage

New Mexico Supreme Court legalizes same-sex ‘marriage’

Image
ALBUQUERQUE , December 19, 2013 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) – The Supreme Court of New Mexico ruled that the state must recognize same-sex “marriages,” because a ban would violate a 1972 constitutional amendment banning discrimination "on account of the sex of any person." Justice Edward L. Chavez wrote that, due to homosexuals' special status as a minority community, “New Mexico may [not] constitutionally deny same-gender couples the right to marry...unless the proponents of the legislation — the opponents of same-gender marriage — prove that the discrimination caused by the legislation is 'substantially related to an important government interest.'” Chavez authored the  31-page decision  expressing the unanimous ruling of the five-member court. Justices rejected the notion that the government had a vested interest in the conception and raising of children. “Procreation has never been a condition of marriage under New Mexico law, as evidenced by the fact that

Homosexual advocates to Christians: be silent, submit or be sued

Prof John Eastman , Chairman of our board, is one sharp legal eagle. Watch him take on and demolish the idea that the Supreme Court has authorized county clerks in Pennsylvania and other states to just hand out 'marriage' licenses to gay couples lawlessly, without even the cover of a court order. Watch Prof. John Eastman on PBS New Hour  lay down the law  to James Esseks from the ACLU: The people that are opposed to redefining the very core institution of marriage are going to continue to fight. Justice Kennedy 's opinion in the Defense of Marriage Act case rests heavily on the fact that states are the primary determiners of marriage policy in our country. . . .The statutes and the state constitutional provisions that define marriage as it has been through most of human history, as a man and a woman, don't need to be changed. All over this country people are facing the question: submit or stand up.  Prof. John Eastman points out how many people are choosing

Black Mayor stops Singer at Martin Luther King Concert because he supports normal heterosexual marriage

Image
Who would think we would live to see the day when a black Mayor of the District of Columbia would use not only local but federal funds to ban a Grammy-award winning black pastor from performing at a concert in honor of Rev. King because — he believes and says that Christ liberated him from "the sin of homosexuality." Mayor Vincent Grey admits he made the decision to ban Donnie McClurkin from singing, in spite of a signed contract to do so, because gay activists consider him too controversial — calling him vile and claiming his performance would be at odds with the spirit of Dr. King . The Mayor's office tried to pretend it was a mutual decision, but Pastor McClurkin is not going to let the lie stand: The black churches in D.C. are up in arms, but they are not yet able to dislodge the new man-made moral law: "Thou shall affirm all things homosexual no matter what the Bible says."
