UK college considers taking down photo of famous alumnus because he opposes gay ‘marriage’

Image
LONDON, UK , February 27, 2015 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) -- King's College in London is considering demands by homosexual activists that a portrait of alumnus Lord Carey , the former Archbishop of Canterbury , be removed from a display of famous former students in its main building because of his opposition to same-sex "marriage." Lord Carey is on record for saying that same-sex relationships should not be "put on the same level" as heterosexual unions, and that re-defining marriage would “strike at the very fabric of society." King's College London Student Union released a  statement  saying it was offended by Lord Carey’s remarks, saying the former archbishop’s view is “outdated, hurtful and offensive.” Colin Hart, campaign director of the UK   Coalition for Marriage , said, “Attempting to airbrush Lord Carey from Kings College’s list of distinguished alumni for his support of traditional marriage smacks of the most appalling form of censorship.&

If we invite homosexual friends to family events, is that approving of homosexuality?

Image
English: A child's birthday celebration (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) This is a difficult issue to answer because we can't address all circumstances in which homosexual people could or could not be invited to family events. So, all I can do is speak in generalities and express my opinion. Let's take a look at different scenarios. Let's say we have a family member who is an atheist and you want to invite him or her over for a birthday party . Does it mean that by doing this you are approving of the person's atheism ? It would not. But then what about inviting a couple who are not married, male and female, to your home for dinner? They stay late, maybe there's a huge snowstorm; and they have to spend the night. Though you don't have the right to tell them what they can and can't do outside of your home, you do have the right to tell them what happens in your home. So, it would be appropriate to say that they are welcome to stay but that you would

Should Christian clergy stop signing marriage certificates?

Image
The next several years are going to be messy for Christians. We already know that some who claim to be within our fold will continue to challenge the historic, orthodox teaching about sexuality, marriage, and the essence of what it means to be made in the image of God. But even those of us who agree that marriage is what the church has always thought it was, will disagree on how best to move forward in a culture hell-bent on denying it. Case in point: Over at First Things , a premier publication of Christian thought, Ephraim Radner and Christopher Seitz have offered what they refer to as “ The Marriage Pledge,”  calling clergy of all stripes to no longer sign government documents of civil marriage. To be a “clear witness,” they have decided they “will no longer serve as agents of the state in marriage” because to do so would be to “implicate the Church in a false definition of marriage.” This is an idea that has been kicked around for some time.  Past First Things  articles hav

Lady Gaga Jakarta concert canceled following outcry

Image
May 30, 2012 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) - Lady Gaga has announced that she is canceling her planned concert for early June in Jakarta, Indonesia , due to security concerns raised by widespread protests against her sexualized performances and disrespectful use of religious imagery. “We had to cancel the concert in Indonesia ,” Gaga tweeted to her fans. “I’m so very sorry to the fans & just as devastated as you if not more,” she wrote. “You are everything to me.” “I will try to put together something special for you. My love for Indonesia has only grown,” Gaga added. In another tweet, she attributed her rejection to “hate” from the Indonesians opposing her presence. “It’s unfortunate,” said Minola Sebayang, a lawyer for the company promoting the show, “but with threats if the concert goes ahead, Lady Gaga’s side is calling it off. This is not only about Lady Gaga’s security, but extends to those who will be watching her.” The concert garnered broad opposition from Muslim g

Indonesians fight to stop ‘blasphemous’ Lady Gaga ‘Born this Way’ concert

Hitmixes (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) As Indonesian Muslim groups fight to stop a “Lady Gaga” concert in their country, the singer claims she is in negotiation with authorities to permit the event under certain restrictions. Islamic organizations have been fighting against the singer’s scheduled appearance in Jakarta , which is slated for June 3, for several weeks, on the grounds that her risqué, religion-mocking performances are “blasphemous” and toxic to the morality of young people. “Lady Gaga is considered an icon for liberal culture and Indonesia ’s freedom is not without limits,” Asrorun Niam, an official of the Muslim National Ulema Council (MUI), told the French Press Agency. “There are restrictions related to norms, morals and religion.” “We reject the Lady Gaga concert on a number of considerations, including cultural liberalization, which degrades the morality of the younger generation,” said Muhammad Rahmad Kurnia, Chairman of the Muslim group Hizbut Tahrir

Christians ‘more militant’ and homophobic than Muslims: UK Equalities Chief

Image
Image via Wikipedia Despite Britain being an officially Christian country with a majority Christian population and a Christian heritage reaching back to the 7th century AD , the UK’s equalities chief has said that Christians need to “integrate” better into Britain’s “modern liberal democracy.”  Compared to Muslims , he said, Christians are “more militant” and have a harder time blending in. “There are a lot of Christian activist voices who appear bent on stressing the kind of persecution that I don’t think really exists in this country,” said Trevor Phillips , chairman of the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC). The current movement towards doctrinal and moral orthodoxy in the Anglican and Catholic churches is a revival of “an old time religion incompatible with modern society” that is clashing with “mainstream” views, especially on homosexuality, he continued. Phillips told the Sunday Telegraph in an interview this weekend that while most actual cases of religious discr
