Analysis WASHINGTON, D.C., March 15, 2013 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) – Reporters in the liberal media had a rare fit of bipartisanship recently when they learned some Republicans had signed a brief with the Supreme Court supporting same-sex “marriage.” A veritable avalanche of stories proclaimed this tiny group the new chiefs of the Republican Party. USA Today  gushed,  “Top Republicans urge court to support gay marriage.”   U.S. News and World Report   dubbed them  “ Republican leaders.”  The San Jose  Mercury News  claimed Meg Whitman and “other conservatives”  now support redefining marriage. Even the  Daily Caller  wrote,  “Prominent conservatives defend gay marriage before Supreme Court.” As with most events they cover, the mainstream media are not telling the full story about these gallant GOP giants. WASHINGTON, D.C. , December 17, 2012 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) – Religious liber ties activists are calling on the U.S. Senate to amend the Defense Authorization Bill to include language protecting military service members from retribution for their religious beliefs.  Of primary concern is the need to secure protections for chaplains and service members from facing discrimination, investigations and possibly career-ending reprimands in response to deeply held religious convictions pertaining to homosexuality and same-sex “marriage.”  Will military chaplains face repercussions for holding to their moral beliefs on homosexuality and gay "marriage"? Dr. Richard Land says that may already be happening. In September 2011, the U.S. repealed the law known as “Don’t ask, don’t tell,” enabling homosexuals to serve openly in all branches of the military for the first time. Within weeks, the Pentagon issued two memos authorizing same-sex “marriages” to be solemnized on U.

Last May, the first same-sex marriage ceremony ever held on a U.S. Military installation was performed at Fort Polk, Louisiana . Although it wasn't legally valid, it created quite an uproar . . . and violated federal law. In response, the House of Representatives passed the following language as part of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA): A military installation or other property owned or rented by, or otherwise under the jurisdiction or control of, the Department of Defense, may not be used to officiate, solemnize, or perform a marriage or marriage-like ceremony involving anything other than the union of one man with one woman. Senators Roger Wicker and James Inhofe have introduced these provisions in the Senate as a stand-alone bill, the "Military Religious Freedom Act of 2012," but the Senate leadership has blocked their efforts every step of the way.
