What does the Bible say about homosexuality?

Image
The  Bible  doesn't speak of homosexuality very often; but when it does, it condemns it as  sin .  Let's take a look. Leviticus 18:22 , "You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination." 1 Leviticus 20:13 , "If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be put to death. Their bloodguiltness is upon them." 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 , "Or do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God ? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, 10 nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, shall inherit the kingdom of God." Romans 1:26-28 , "For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, 27 and in the same way also the men abandoned

Can practicing homosexuals be saved?

Image
If "practising homosexual " means a person who is openly approving of homosexuality and is engaged in it, can this person be saved ?  Yes and no.   Yes, because any sinner has the potential of becoming saved.  On the other hand, if the person is professing to be a Christian yet is unrepentantly practising homosexuality, then it would appear that he would not be saved.   1 John 2:4  says, "The one who says, 'I have come to know Him,' and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him."  So, a homosexual can be saved, but once saved the Spirit of God will move that person to repent of the sin of homosexuality.  If a person continues to practice homosexuality unrepentantly, promoting it, etc., then that person would not be demonstrating evidence of regeneration. But then again, a person could become saved, still fall into homosexuality, be convicted by the Spirit of sin, and all the while seeking to break free from it.  So

Do practicing homosexuals who are "saved" go to heaven after they die?

Image
This is a difficult question because there seems to be an inherent contradiction within it. Those who are truly saved are also regenerated; they are new creations and the old things have passed away ( 2 Corinthians 5:17 ).  Also,  1 John 2:4  says, “The one who says, ‘I have come to know Him,’ and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.” So if someone really is born again, there will be a change within him and he will resist sin. Homosexuality is a sin ( Rom. 1:26-32 ). So, we must ask how someone who's truly saved can also purposely be in rebellion against God ? This would not make sense. If someone was a practising homosexual and did not consider it to be sin, and would not receive correction from the word of God, then it is most probable that the person is not truly saved. Salvation results in a change in the person, and though we may still war with the same old sins, the fact is that we are at war with them. Our fight against such s

Can you be gay and Christian? Here’s what the Bible says

Image
It’s the question that’s dividing churches and separating family members. It’s the question that must be answered: Can you be gay and Christian ? Well, if you claim to be a Christian, that means that Jesus is your Lord and the Bible tells you how to follow him. So, the real question is: What does Jesus have to say about this? And what does the Bible – God ’s Word – have to say? That’s what we need to find out. Of course, we understand that every Christian struggles in some area, whether it be pride or anger or lust or jealousy or greed. But we also recognize that acting on these desires and attitudes is sinful, and so we say ‘No’ to them and ‘ Yes ’ to the Lord.  In the same way, some Christians struggle with same-sex attractions , saying ‘No’ to acting on those attractions and ‘Yes’ to following the Lord. That’s their area of temptation and battle. But what about those who say, “God made me gay, and if I’m in a committed relationship, the Lord is pleased. After a

What does the Bible say about homosexuality - Sean McDowell and Matthew Vines

What does the Bible say about homosexuality . An interview with Sean McDowell and Matthew Vines . How did Jesus view sex and marriage? In this video, Sean and Matthew discuss important biblical passages related to the biblical view of homosexuality. Last night I had the opportunity to discuss the Bible and Homosexuality with Matthew Vines. It was hosted by Living Oaks Church as part of their “Get a Grip” series. Here is my opening statement. I normally don't post an article this long, and I rarely write out a speech word-for-word. But here it is nonetheless! My thanks to pastor Jon and the church for hosting this conversation, and my respect to Matthew for being willing to enter into this dialogue at a church that holds the historic Christian view on sex and marriage. I appreciate Jon’s opening statement. This issue is too important to be decided by personality, experience, or likability. Don’t be tempted to believe something because you like me or because you don’t like

Are the homosexual prohibitions in leviticus universal?

Image
How significant are the prohibitions of same-gender behavior in Leviticus 18:22 and 20:13? Are these passages limited to Israel ’s purity code and her separation from the surrounding gentile nations, or are they universal? The Revisionist Answer The context limits the prohibitions to the cult or religion of Israel, as shown by the use of the word abominable (Heb. toʿeba, Gk. bdelygma). These regulations belong solely to the purity laws applied to Israel in the Old Testament and have no on-going value as moral standards. These passages are never quoted in the New Testament as part of the Christian ethic . Establishment of the death penalty for violators does not help determine whether the texts apply to the modern world. The texts have no relevance. The Biblical Answer Leviticus 18:22 and 20:13 clearly describe homosexual behavior , with the second passage calling for the death penalty. The words abomination or detestable occur in both passages. Among the vices listed

Homosexual twist scripture

What is the meaning of arsenokoitai, which Paul uses in 1 Corinthians 6:9–11 and 1 Timothy 1:10–12? Pastors who agree with Homosexuals Arsenokoitai cannot refer to “homosexuals” because there is no preceding occurrence of this word with such a meaning. In the lists of vices, the word means “homosexual acts,” “pederasts,” or “active male prostitutes” or refers to ritual impurity. These were the prevalent forms of homosexual activity that found some disapproval in contemporary codes or among the Jews. Paul’s word cannot refer to those of a homosexual orientation or to those who live in a mutually respectful and committed homosexual relationship; these are modern phenomena, unknown to Paul. Biblical Pastors Answer The English term homosexuals is an appropriate correspondent to arsenokoitai, given both ancient sexual practice and today’s usage. We have ample evidence that ancient Greeks and Romans knew about homosexual orientation and that some Greeks practiced a mutually respectful,

What was Jesus’ and the apostles’ attitude toward homosexuality?

Image
What was Jesus ’ and the apostles’ attitude toward homosexuality? The Revisionist Answer Jesus did not condemn homosexuality, and neither should we. The Biblical Answer Jesus did not mention the word homosexuality, but He referred to Sodom and its destruction more frequently than did anyone else ( Matt. 10:15; 11:23; Luke 17:26–37). In each context, Jesus assumes the divine judgment on Sodom, which He links to the Flood as an example of divine intervention. It becomes a portent of His own second coming. “Remember Lot’s wife,” he warns (Luke 17:32). He views the sin of Sodom as a serious matter. Jesus also upheld the monogamous, permanent, heterosexual marriage as a universal norm. He linked the outward deed to the inner thought or motive (for example, Matthew 5 ). He cited the heart, the inner being, as the origin of evil deeds (for example, Matthew 15 ). He warns against annulling even the least commandment, which He came to fulfill, not destroy. Jesus perhaps hints even at ped

Blasphemous ‘gaytivity’ set uses two Josephs

Image
An LGBT activist and comedian is promoting a nativity scene with two St. Josephs and no Virgin Mary. Some have dubbed this a “gaytivity scene.” “Our neighbors’ two Joseph nativity is up & I’m beaming,” Cameron Esposito   tweeted  along with a photo of the blasphemous display. One woman  responded by tweeting a photo  of her own “lesbian” nativity scene that uses two statues of Mary. The baby Jesus in that one is shown with a rainbow blanket. Rhode Island’s Bishop Thomas Tobin called the nativity set with two Josephs “sacrilege.” He posted on Facebook : Just came across this photo of a “gay nativity” scene — two Josephs dressed in pink watching over the Christ Child . How sad that someone believes it’s okay (or funny or cool) to impose their own agenda on the holy Birth of Jesus. Pray for those who did so, for their change of heart, and that Jesus will forgive this sacrilege, this attack on the Christian Faith . “Jesus had two dads and he turned out fine!”
