Christians who has same-sex attraction respond to debate on Bible's view towards homosexuality

Image
Christopher Yuan – Placing My Identity in Christ , Not My Sexuality Unlike Matthew Vines, I was not raised in a Christian home and believed homosexual, romantic relationships were not sinful. I became aware of my attractions toward other men when I was nine but hid them until I came out in my early twenties while in graduate school pursuing a doctorate in dentistry. My mother was devastated but through this incident, she became a Christian. Although her initial response was rejection, after coming to Christ she could do nothing other than love her gay son. After many years of running from God and rebelling against my parents, I was incarcerated for drug dealing and received the news that I was HIV+. I found a Bible in the trash can and began reading it. I confided with a prison chaplain who told me that the Bible does not condemn homosexuality, and he gave me a book by gay historian, John Boswell . Like Vines, I too wanted to reconcile faith with sexuality. With that book in one hand

Attractions vs. actions: homosexuality and God’s story

November 13, 2013 ( BreakPoint ) - Armed with good intentions, individuals, organizations and outreaches have dedicated themselves to treating homosexuality, often by promising to turn homosexuals “straight.” In other words, “cure” them of their orientation. While many ex-gay success stories exist, not all of them include a change of orientation. The attractions often remain, and not for a lack of trying to lose them. Gay activists make much of allegedly "cured" individuals who relapse into homosexual lifestyles, and use these stories to strengthen their narrative: “We didn’t choose to be gay,” so many insist. “We’re born this way, and no amount of ‘reparative therapy’ can change that.” But it’s the argument within that argument that’s the most problematic: that unchanged dispositions automatically justify acting on those dispositions. For most Americans , this one-to-one correlation between same-sex inclinations and same-sex relations has stuck, which explains the

Can Christians embrace a same-sex lifestyle and still be members in good standing in a Christian church?

I've been asked to comment on the controversy provoked by a recent interview in the Atlantic with Alan Chambers , the president of Exodus International —an evangelical ministry founded to help Christians and non-Christians find freedom from the guilt and power of a same-sex lifestyle. Christians may debate public policy, but in this interview, Chambers raises issues that are very clearly addressed in Scripture. Especially when we are dealing with human lives, daring to draw our counsel from God , we need to affirm the simplicity of biblical teaching on the subject while rejecting an over-simplifying of the issues involved. The problem (sin and death) as well as the solution (redemption in Christ through the gospel) are simple, but hardly simplistic. In terms of sin, Scripture is quite clear about the condition ( original sin —guilt, bondage, corruption leading to death) and the acts that arise from it. There are versions of the pro-gay and anti-gay agenda that assume a simp

Why Jesus didn't say anything about homosexuality?

English: John the Baptist baptizing Christ (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) If you’ve ever said that homosexuality is a sin, there’s a good chance that someone tried to correct you with, “ Jesus never said anything about homosexuality.” It doesn’t matter what Bible verse you believe bolsters your claim, they believe that Jesus’ silence on the matter trumps all other considerations. But there are a number of reasons why this objection doesn’t work. First, it’s not certain that Jesus never said anything about homosexuality. The Gospel writers didn’t record everything that Jesus said – only what they thought was important to their audience. Indeed, most of what Jesus said (and did) was never written down. John 21:25 says, “And there are also many other things which Jesus did, which if they were written in detail, I suppose that even the world itself would not contain the books that would be written.” It’s possible Jesus did talk about homosexuality, but the Gospel writers didn’t feel it

What if someone in my family is homosexual?

This is a rebuttal to an article published by  Free Inquiry  about why Christians are wrong about their views on homosexuality entitled " Why the Christian Right is Wrong About Homosexuality ," by Jerry Drosman. Jerry Drosman's piece is so easy to pick apart I am astonished that  Free Inquiry  even bothered to publish it. I suppose the philosophy of secular humanism would accept any argument against Christianity no matter how inane. Familial relationships Drosman begins by citing an example of a Christian named Rob who will not associate with his sister because she is a lesbian. Drosmen also goes on to state that Rob won't let his sister's partner even touch his children. This is interesting because if Rob refused to associate with his sister how is her partner coming into situations where she could touch Rob's children? My guess is that Drosman may be overstating the relationship rift between Rob and his sister, but even if his portrayal is acc
