No to Homosexuality

Kamala Harris may not yet be a household name across the nation, but she's the uber-liberal state Attorney General of California . She hails from San Francisco and she doesn't much care for people who believe that marriage is the union of one man and one woman, as God created it. In fact, she pretty much disdains us . In a press conference called to celebrate the US Supreme Court's dismissal of the appeal of Prop 8 on standing grounds, Harris said of those of us who support true marriage, " The United States Supreme Court in essence declared today: they are bystanders; they are sitting in [sic] the sidelines. " She also declared happily, " The United States Supreme Court today made clear that Proposition 8 is unconstitutional. " Please help us stop manipulative politicians like Kamala Harris  who would silence our voice in the public square and treat us like pariahs simply for believing in the age-old, God-ordained conjugal view of marriage.

California marriage case: it’s not over yet

Image
Analysis June 30, 2013 ( blog.heritage.org)  - On Wednesday, the U.S. Supreme Court issued its ruling in Hollingsworth v. Perry , finding that the official proponents of California’s Proposition 8 (which defined marriage as the union of one man and one woman) lacked standing to defend the law in court. Throwing out the federal appellate court’s decision, the Supreme Court sent the case back to the appellate court with instructions to dismiss the case. So what happens next? The short answer is more litigation. Here are a few key points about the case: California state officials refused to defend the law in court. While one federal district court declared Proposition 8 unconstitutional, that ruling may not apply to the entire state of California . At a minimum, the original challengers of the law will now be able to marry. Whether this applies to more same-sex couples in California will be determined in the days to come. In 2009, two same-sex couples who wanted to ma

Lawmakers: If you don’t want to be gay, too bad

WASHINGTON, D.C. , November 30, 2012, ( Human Life International )—The push by Democratic lawmakers to discriminate against people seeking help to leave homosexual lifestyles just went national. Their message: If you don’t want to be gay anymore, well that’s just too bad. In another example of lawmakers creating an environment of intolerance while trying to legislate tolerance, Rep. Jackie Speier , D-CA,  introduced a resolution in Congress this week , co-sponsored by Reps. Ted Deutc, D-FL, and David Cicilline , D-RI, to discourage and discriminate against young people seeking help with homosexual attraction. Congresswoman Jackie Speier. Her effort follows a recent state effort in California, the first in the nation, which prevents young people from receiving counseling or therapy to deal with unwanted same-sex attraction , even if expressly desired by the youths. Signed by Gov. Jerry Brown in September, that law is currently being challenged in court. Rep. Speier  beli

So much for ‘choice’: California bans reparative therapy

Image
English: Jerry Brown's official picture as Attorney General and as Governor (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) October 10, 2012 ( Breakpoint.org ) - Recently, California governor Jerry Brown signed into law a ban on so-called “reparative therapy” for minors with same-sex attraction . In other words, counselors will not be permitted to help young people change their sexual orientation or behavior. Well, the law stinks on multiple levels. First, what if the minor wants to change, as many do? Doesn’t this violate the supposed liberal cardinal tenet of “choice”? And it’s a troubling precedent to nail an identity on an entire segment of the population with the stroke of a pen. Second, the law claims scientific consensus when there is none. Gov. Brown said the law would consign reparative therapies “to the dustbin of quackery,” banning “non-scientific ‘therapies’ that have driven young people to depression and suicide.” But the governor failed to note the high rates of depression a

Once gay always gay?

I have a confession to make: I have prayed for many people who struggle with homosexual feelings, and I have asked the  Holy Spirit  to help them overcome those urges. According to the state of California , that makes me a criminal if the person I prayed for was under 18. California has banned so-called “ reparative therapy ,” which is used to cure minors of their homosexual feelings. Upon signing the law in late September, Gov. Jerry Brown said such psychological counseling has led to depression and suicide among gay youth, and he added that any therapy aimed at changing a person’s sexual orientation falls into the category of “quackery.” The law states that no mental health provider can provide minors with therapies to “change behaviors or gender expressions, or to eliminate or reduce sexual or romantic attractions or feelings toward individuals of the same sex.” Brown, the majority of California’s legislators and leaders of the  gay community say it’s hateful  to offer a

California Gov. signs bill to outlaw therapy to assist youth leave homosexuality

A bill that was described as a deliberate “attack on parental rights ” by its sponsor has been signed into law in California . On Sunday, Governor Jerry Brown signed into law a bill banning sexual orientation change therapy for minors. It is set to go into effect on January 1, 2013.  In response, the pro-family law firm Liberty Counsel has said it is filing a lawsuit on behalf of counselors, parents and their minor children, and the National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality (NARTH) against the legislation. In signing the bill, Gov. Brown said that sexual orientation change therapy “will now be relegated to the dustbin of quackery.” This summer in response to critics who said the bill was an attack on parents rights, the bill’s sponsor State Senator Ted Lieu said: “The attack on parental rights is exactly the whole point of the bill, because we don’t want to let parents harm their children.” Senator Ted Lieu “No one should stand idly by while child

California Assembly passes ‘attack on parental rights’ bill banning sex orientation therapy

SACRAMENTO, August 30, 2012, ( LifeSiteNews.com ) - A first-of-its-kind state measure banning voluntary therapy for same-sex attraction for minors has passed California ’s Assembly , moving it a step closer to law, pending the reconciliation of the bill’s versions this week. The latest version of the bill states that California has a compelling interest in protecting minors against “exposure to serious harms caused by sexual orientation change efforts ,” and prohibits any mental health professional from providing sexual orientation therapy to individuals under 18 years old.  Ted Lieu said he designed the bill to deny parental rights. The measure passed by a 51-21 vote in the Democratic -controlled Assembly, and was approved by the Senate in May. Critics have blasted the bill as an infringement upon parents’ rights, while supporters say that’s precisely the point. “ The attack on parental rights is exactly the whole point of the bill , because we don’t want to let paren

Businesses contracting with California must provide same-sex partner benefits: new law

Image
Image via Wikipedia Democratic California Governor Jerry Brown on Tuesday signed a bill that will require all businesses that have contracts in excess of $100,000 with the state to provide benefits to the same-sex partners of homosexual employees. The new law comes at the same time as pro-family activists are defending Proposition 8 , the state’s voter-approved ballot measure defining marriage as a man and a woman, in court. “Claiming to be anti-discriminatory , this new law discriminates against all employers who limit their benefits to married couples , according to the State’s own definition of marriage as only between a man and a woman,” Ron Prentice, the Executive Director of  ProtectMarriage.com , the organization behind Proposition 8, told LifeSiteNews. The Equal Benefits law was authored by Democratic Senator Christine Kehoe , a lesbian, and received the enthusiastic support of the homosexual lobby. “The state’s tax dollars earned by hardworking Californians should no Image
