Boswell and others disapprove of the translation “sodomite” used twice in the KJV ( Deut. 23:17 and 1 Kings 14:24). The Hebrew words refer to temple prostitutes in Deuteronomy, both female (qĕdēšāh) and male (qādēš).  Boswell argues that “sodomite” should not be the translation for the second term (qādēš) because there is “no reason to assume that such prostitutes serviced persons of their own sex,” whether based on the term itself or on history, where evidence is so little that inferences are “moot.”48 The passage of Deuteronomy 23:17–18 reads (NIV): (17) No Israelite man or woman is to become a shrine prostitute . We all can agree that the writer of Judges has clearly modeled his telling of the story on Genesis 19 , and we should interpret them the same way.36  Although Boswell claims that “Jews and Christians have overwhelmingly failed to interpret this story as one of homosexuality,”37 he fails to back up this claim with any sources.  A footnote admits that some sources have interpreted the act as sodomy. First of all, not all of Leviticus is written to everyone.  There were abominations that applied only to the Jews such as eating shellfish, rabbit, and pork, etc., which were things that typologically represented purity before the Lord.  We know this because God says, "Speak to the sons of Israel saying..."  He gives instructions to the Israelites , not to the rest of the nations. (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) Is disapproving of homosexuality and homosexual marriage spreading hate?  Teaching that homosexuality is a  sin  is not spreading hate anymore than teaching that lying is a sin is spreading hate. Christians can disapprove of a behavior and still be civil and loving to the ones with whom we disagree. According to the  Bible , Christians are to live in peace with everyone as much as possible (Rom. 12:18); but we are not to compromise the word of God and participate in those things to which the Scriptures speak against.  Furthermore, when we call homosexuality a sin, we are saying that it violates the Word of God.  It is breaking the law of God and is therefore wrong.  But we Christians meet sinners every day, and we treat them lovingly.  This is what the New Testament tells us.  Jesus said, “By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”
