GoFundMe axes Christian rugby star’s $500k fundraiser, showing need for alternative WonderWe

Image
A popular fundraising website has canceled a fundraiser for a Christian rugby player who was fired for his religious beliefs about sexual sin, making the Christian-friendly  WonderWe  site even more relevant to social conservatives.   Today GoFundMe shut down a webpage soliciting donations towards the legal fees of Tongan-Australian athlete Israel Folau. Folau was dismissed by Rugby Australia (RA) in May for social media posts his critics said showed hatred for people with same-sex attractions.  The sports star is bringing a suit against RA, arguing that their decision was motivated by religious discrimination. Folau and  his wife Maria , also a professional athlete, say that they have already spent $100,000 Australian ($70,000 US) on legal fees.  A popular fundraising website has canceled a fundraiser for a Christian rugby player who was fired for his religious beliefs about sexual sin, making the Christian-friendly  WonderWe  site even more relevant to social conservatives

GoFundMe and Free Speech

Image
Today GoFundMe page for Israel Folau was taken down because he quoted 1 Cor 6 on a meme on social media, was sacked and needs to raise money for a court case that Rugby Australia intends to through its erroneous weight at him and punish him again....for quoting scripture and offending Qantas Chief.  1)  The Death Of Free Speech I have lamented the death of Free Speech in Australia for the last few years. Now as a point of clarification, Australia does not have Free Speech enshrined in their constitution like the Americans do. In fact, the only social freedom that’s guaranteed in our constitution is religion. (Which I have to say in under extreme threat right now). Australia doesn’t have a bill of rights, which is where free speech usually gets defined and protected in most Western Democracies. It’s also not incorporated in any Federal legislation. Instead, Free Speech is only a common law, which was adopted from the Westminster System from the UK, which means it’s a pretty loos

GOFundMe bow to LGBT mob

GoFundMe bends the knee to the LBGTQ mob and joins the pack attack on Folau, columnist Lawrence Money tweeted. GoFundme accuses him of hate. What did he say.....using a meme he said 1 Cor 6:9 Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men. 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. The Daily Telegraph columnist Miranda Devine added: “The haters and Christophobes have forced Israel Folau’s church into hiding and GoFundMe appears to have closed his account, in the usual illiberal way of woke corporates. Did you know GoFundMe takes 5 per cent of donations? So it’s reaped $40,000 from Folau.” One Nation NSW leader Mark Latham said GoFundMe’s decision was an “excessive use of corporate power”. “During the SSM campaign, Lefties scoffed when I said the absence of Religious Freedom Protections w

On April 10, Israel Folau posted on his Instagram account the following message: “Warning: Drunks, Homosexuals, Adulterers, Liars, Fornicators, Thieves, Atheists, Idolators: Hell Awaits You. Repent! Only Jesus Saves.” Next to this big, bold statement was the message: “Those that are living in Sin will end up in Hell unless you repent. Jesus Christ loves you and is giving you time to turn away from your sin and come to him.” This eye-catching text was from the Bible, a loose paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 6:9-10: “Do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.” If someone else had posted this it would almost certainly have slipped under the radar. But Folau was being watched. Partly this is because of his brilliance as a footballer. He holds the record

Illegal sacking Israel Folau and the sin of homosexuality

Celebrity rugby player Israel Folau is in a complicated legal position. He shared a “meme” on social media site Instagram recently, the text of which was: “Warning: Drunks, Homosexuals, Adulterers, Liars, Fornicators, Thieves, Atheists, Idolators: Hell Awaits You- Repent! Only Jesus Saves.” To this he added his own personal comment: “Those that are living in Sin will end up in Hell unless you repent. Jesus Christ loves you and is giving you time to turn away from your sin and come to him.” (The comment was similar to many other pictures shared on his account, many of which are Bible verses or exhortations to nominal Christians to follow Jesus Christ in deed as well as word.) His remarks were not well-received by many members of the public, and in particular by the peak bodies in rugby. His employer, Rugby Australia, has announced that it (and the NSW Rugby Union) will terminate his contract unless he can offer some explanation for the comments which they are satisfied with (any “compe

Israel by posting Bible verses on social media was found to breach of the code of conduct by a three-person RA tribunal, and, on 17 May 2019, the  announcement by RA  that his contract had been terminated. He is reported as having commented: Folau said he was “deeply saddened” by the decision and is considering his options. He said in a statement: “It has been a privilege and an hour to represent Australia and my home state of New South Wales, playing the game I love. “I am deeply saddened by today’s decision to terminate my employment and I am considering my options. “As Australians, we are born with certain rights, including the right to freedom of religion and the right to freedom of expression. “The Christian faith has always been a part of my life and I believe it is my duty as a Christian to share God’s word. Upholding my religious beliefs should not prevent my ability to work or play for my club or country.” What, then, are his legal options? He has indicated
