Image via Wikipedia The trouble with compromise is that it all too often pleases no-one and sounds both hypocritical and bizarre. Behind all the hullabaloo about gay priests and even possibly gay bishops , people have perhaps missed the fact that the C of E began compromising on this issue many years ago. It is quite simply untenable to allow one thing for ‘ordinary’ members of the church and another for its leaders. The church must jump one way or the other. Cultural relevance or biblical absolutes- they simply can’t have it both ways! the Guardian states  “The row may well signal an end to the unsatisfactory compromise enshrined in the 1991 House of Bishops statement, Issues in Human Sexuality – a document which stated that gay sexual relationships were allowable for the faithful laity, but wrong for the clergy. Your discontent is a sign that you have not accepted an identity as a “gay” man. It’s a sign that your heart is open to moving in a godly direction. Generally, it’s a mistake to suppress your same-sex attractions in terms of trying to pretend they don’t exist. Driving the attractions underground will make them grow stronger. God wants us to be honest about ourselves ( Psalm 51:6 ). It’s better to admit their presence and then try to understand and confront them. Although some would have you believe there is a substantial body of scientific research connecting same-sex attractions to a biological or genetic cause, there is no credible evidence to support such a claim. Much of the argument upon which the promotion of homosexuality as a “legitimate lifestyle choice ” is founded is the paradoxical assertion that it is not a choice at all, but a fixed state of being, probably determined by genes. This is the basis of the claim that opposition to homosexual activity is “ homophobia ” and tantamount to racism. Image via Wikipedia Much of society is confused about the true meaning of human sexuality. Terribly confused. Teaching the meaning of sexual feelings, desires and behaviors tends to be a free for all. It’s much like that game adolescent boys enjoy playing – we all know what it is called – that basically involves a mob trying to tackle the boy with the ball.  He may whirl it in the air before being tackled, or he may zigzag and try to fight his way through the crowd. That is really the extent of the rules: run with the ball as long as possible without being tackled. This chaotic game is exhilarating for boys, who earn bragging rights as they juke the other players or possess the ball the longest. Unfortunately, such a maelstrom is alarming and harmful when society acts like this about the meaning of human sexuality. Here’s what I mean. Cover of All Families Are Different The Argentinean government is in the process of distributing millions of copies of a United Nations “ sexual education ” publication that teaches that homosexual couples are a type of “family,” and states that gays have a “right” to “live [their] sexuality,” according to the pro-family   Argentinean Center for Bioethics, the Person, and the Family . Center education expert Inés Franck says that six million copies of the magazines will be distributed to families as a guide for teaching children about human sexuality . However, the government says it is prepared to print sufficient copies to reach every household in the country.
