Should Christian clergy stop signing marriage certificates?

Image
The next several years are going to be messy for Christians. We already know that some who claim to be within our fold will continue to challenge the historic, orthodox teaching about sexuality, marriage, and the essence of what it means to be made in the image of God. But even those of us who agree that marriage is what the church has always thought it was, will disagree on how best to move forward in a culture hell-bent on denying it. Case in point: Over at First Things , a premier publication of Christian thought, Ephraim Radner and Christopher Seitz have offered what they refer to as “ The Marriage Pledge,”  calling clergy of all stripes to no longer sign government documents of civil marriage. To be a “clear witness,” they have decided they “will no longer serve as agents of the state in marriage” because to do so would be to “implicate the Church in a false definition of marriage.” This is an idea that has been kicked around for some time.  Past First Things  articles hav

New Pope shows his pro immoral homosexual hand?

Putting the official stamp on months of rumours and what  LifeSite had confirmed  on Sept. 17, the Vatican announced today that Pope Francis has removed Cardinal Raymond Burke from his position as prefect of the Vatican's Apostolic Signatura - the highest court of the Catholic Church. Instead, the cardinal, who until today was the highest ranking American at the Vatican, will be sent to serve as the patron for the Order of the Knights of Malta.  The move to the largely ceremonial position is almost universally being reported as a demotion for the outspoken cardinal, who is widely viewed as the number one English-speaking defender of the Catholic Church's teaching on life and family issues. However, the move by Pope Francis comes as little surprise to observers of Cardinal Burke 's career. Within months of the pope's election, he  removed  the cardinal from his position as a member of the Congregation for Bishops, where he had been able to exert considera

‘It is impossible to have a healthy gay relationship’: Robin Beck on 35 years of ‘hell’ in the gay lifestyle

Image
Robin Teresa Beck , 59, is not afraid to tell anyone, even Pope Francis himself, that homosexuality turned her life into a living hell of suffering, darkness, smashed dreams, and lasting regret. And after 35 years of homosexual behavior over the course of 12 relationships, Robin knows exactly what she’s talking about.  “From my experience, it is impossible to have a healthy gay relationship because it goes against the way God made us to be,” she told LifeSiteNews, calling it “cruel” for any religious leader to look favorable upon such a relationship. It was only five years ago that everything changed for Robin, a staunch Protestant who twisted scripture to suit her gay lifestyle, when one day — on a whim — she decided to enter a Catholic Church to receive ashes during the Lenten Ash Wednesday service. She only came for the ashes, but God had other plans.  Robin Beck, 59. Courtesy of Robin Beck Robin tells the dramatic story of her life in her 2012 book  I just came for Ashes

Pope translation error: left out man and woman?

English: Statue of Jesus Christ at Parish of the Sacred Heart of Lord of Jesus in Gdynia. Polski: Statua Jezusa Chrystusa na terenie Parafii Najświętszego Serca Pana Jezusa w Gdyni. (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) Just at first glance, and without looking it up on Google Translate , what is the difference between these two passages of a recent important Vatican document, the final “Relatio” from October’s Extraordinary Synod of Bishops ? “…confronto alla luce del Signore Gesù per discernere le vie con cui rinnovare la Chiesa e la società nel loro impegno per la famiglia fondata sul matrimonio tra uomo e donna.” and “…facing the situation, with an eye on the Lord Jesus , to discern how the Church and society can renew their commitment to the family .” A little pared down, perhaps? The official Italian original says, roughly, “…facing, in the light of the Lord Jesus, [how] to discern the ways in which to renew the Church and society in their commitment to the family  based

ROME, February 10, 2014 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) – The UN committee that issued the report last week demanding that the Catholic Church change its teachings on abortion, homosexuality and extra-marital sex, has hit back  against criticisms , saying that it was issued only after “objectively examining all relevant information.” Kirsten Sandberg, chairman of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child , said, “As stated in its concluding observations, the Committee welcomed the open and constructive dialogue it had with the delegation of the Holy See , which made positive commitments in numerous areas.” “In particular, the Committee regards as positive the willingness expressed by the delegation to change attitudes and practices, and looks forward to the adoption of prompt and firm measures for the concrete implementation of its commitments,” Sandberg added. The statement from the UN comes following a detailed response on February 7 th  from Fr. Federico Lombardi , the director

UN report demands the Church change teaching on homosexuality

ROME ,– A report by a UN human rights committee is a thinly disguised ideological attack on the Church’s teachings on homosexuality – and even the nature of human sexuality – under the guise of a critique of the sex abuse scandals, says a leading pro-life NGO . Pat Buckley, the Society for the Protection of Unborn Children ’s representative in Geneva, said the Committee on the Rights of the Child that drafted the report has “significantly overstepped its mandate” by demanding changes to Catholic teaching.   “There is nothing in the Convention [on the rights of the child], which requires the Catholic Church or any other body to facilitate abortion, contraception or homosexuality,” Buckley said. The Church,  the report said , must identify “circumstances under which access to abortion services can be permitted.” It must “overcome all the barriers and taboos surrounding adolescent sexuality that hinder their access to sexual and reproductive information, including on famil
