Social conservative leaders wonder: Can homosexual activism and religious liberty ‘coexist’?

Image
Minutes after addressing a packed room at the 2016 CPAC, two leading social conservatives told LifeSiteNews that sexual agendas are putting religious liberty at risk. The Family Research Council 's Travis Weber told LifeSiteNews that "for a lot of us, religious liberty's only been a hot-button issue recently, we're seeing in the news. Why is that? It's driven by agendas affecting matters of sexuality – marriage, abortion, contraception, and all sorts of other issues." "So what do we do about this? Some of these claims are going to be dealt with in the courts. Others, though, we need to deal with [inaudible] protections. Where's the threat right now? It's on anyone doing business with the government, having indexes with the government, those getting tax-exempt status, contracting, getting grants, etc." "And those folks need to be protected with a version of the federal First Amendment Defense Act, or state government non-disc

(Photo credit: Wikipedia ) WOONSOCKET, Rhode Island , March 7, 2016 ( LifeSiteNews ) – A Rhode Island Catholic school has instituted a policy against enrolling transgender students . However, in the face of backlash the school says it is open to rethinking the policy. “Mount Saint Charles Academy is unable to make accommodations for transgender students,” the school’s handbook states. “Therefore, MSC does not accept transgender students nor is MSC able to continue to enroll students who identify as transgender.” The policy against admitting students identifying as transgender has been in effect at the Woonsocket, Rhode Island , prep school as of October of last year, according to The Daily Beast . It was recently noticed by some alumni, th

Trump wants to play Homosexual marriage and traditional marriage

A reporter asked Donald Trump whether he favors 'marriage' rights for same-sex couples and whether his appointees to the US Supreme Court would be expected to overturn the US Supreme Court's Obergefell ruling imposing gay 'marriage' on the nation.  Trump refused to answer the question despite being pressed, claiming that his position is "well known" and he's explained it "150 times." However, as the Daily Mail reporter noted, Trump has never answered this direct question and said unequivocally whether he favors or opposes marriage rights for same-sex couples.  Rather, Trump has "taken both sides in the battle over the Supreme Court's landmark decision legalizing gay unions." The article suggested that Trump may be seeking to maintain flexibility on the issue in order to "stake out a more centrist position in a general election..." Under pressure, Catholic school pulls policy requiring students to identify by natural sex

The Rhode Island Catholic prep school that   faced social media backlash   for establishing a guideline against admitting transgender students has eliminated the policy. Mount Saint Charles Academy (MSC) in Woonsocket was the subject of criticism after the prohibition on enrolling students with gender dysphoria was discovered last week. The 2015-2016 edition of the school handbook had stated the school was “unable to make accommodations for transgender students. Therefore, MSC does not accept transgender students nor is MSC able to continue to enroll students who identify as transgender.” That link on the school website has been replaced with a PDF file identified as the 2016-2017   handbook , which has no reference to transgender students. The change was carried out by the Mount Saint Charles Board,   according   to golocalprov.com. LifeSiteNews inquired with Mount Saint Charles President Herve Richer for comment on the removal of the policy, but had not heard ba

Man strips in front of girls in locker room, says transgender law allows it

A man twice entered the changing room of a swimming pool and began disrobing, once in front of a young girls' swim team, saying transgender policies gave him the right to do so. The unidentified man entered Evans pool in Seattle near Green Lake last Monday, February 8, and began taking off his shirt in front of female patrons. When asked what he was doing, he said, "The law has changed and I have a right to be here." "Seeing this individual in the locker room, parents of swim team members (girls) and women who had paid for lap swim became alarmed and alerted our front desk staff," said Seattle Parks spokesman David Takami in a statement. "In response, an Evans pool staff member entered the women's locker room and asked the man to leave." They offered both the man and the girls the opportunity to use a family changing room. He left, only to return during a later youth lap swim, Takami said. Officials said he had made no attempt t

I used to be transgender. Here’s my take on kids who think they are transgender.

When a 9-year-old boy who identifies as Stormi, a transgender girl, started selling Girl Scout cookies , one neighbor was not amused, according to  Buzzfeed . The neighbor rebuffed him, reportedly saying, “Nobody wants to buy Girl Scout cookies from a boy in a dress.” The neighbor is being called transphobic—but perhaps the neighbor thought he was being pranked by a boy and reacted accordingly. Not everyone assumes that a boy in a dress selling Girl Scout cookies is transgender. People Can Be Genderphobic Stormi looked like a boy to the neighbor because he really is a boy. Transgender people may deceive themselves, but they do not deceive others. Life in society is not some fantasy world where a boy should pretend he has magically transformed himself into a girl simply by uttering the words “I am a girl” and changing how he presents himself. The people who strongly object to the honest reaction from a man saying, “Nobody wants to buy Girl Scout cookies from a boy in

State senator’s comments cause transgender backlash

Image
Recent comments from a group of Republican South Dakota legislators on proposed legislation in the state have caused controversy among the transgender movement. In a discussion on a bill that would limit bathroom and shower facility use in South Dakota schools to students sharing the same gender, State Senator David Omdahl referred to individuals suffering from gender dysphoria as "twisted" due to their identity confusion and said they would benefit from psychological treatment. "I'm sorry if you're so twisted you don't even know who you are," said Omdahl, explaining the intent behind   HB 1008   at a legislative coffee this past Saturday. Omdahl first praised the bill, stressing that it was about protecting the state's children, before indicating that gender dysphoria would be better served by psychological treatment. "They're treating the wrong part of the anatomy. They ought to be treating it up here," he said, pointi

If a transgender individual gets saved, should the church require them to undergo a restorative sex change operation so that they are anatomically their original gender?

Eventually, every church will face a question like this. The first thing we must remember is that the gospel is for everyone-regardless of gender identity . The gospel is for the transgender and the transsexual just as much as it is for the one who identifies with his birth gender. The gospel promises wholeness in Christ and calls us to holiness.  Thus, in response to the gospel, all true Christians seek to live in obedience to the God who created us male and female. Obedience to Christ means that we seek in every way to progressively move toward embracing our birth gender rather than lingering in rebellion or confusion. This is not to suggest that the progress of sanctification is easy or instantaneous. As Eugene Peterson said, the Christian life is "a long obedience in the same direction." In other words, obedience can be slow progress. What if the individual had undergone medical procedures and  sex change operations before coming to Christ? Would surger
