Is the Bible’s Teaching about Homosexuality Offensive?

Image
Male and Female, God Created Them The Bible is unequivocal on the question of homosexual sex. First, men sleeping with men is prohibited in Jewish law (e.g., Lev. 18:22; 20:13). This does not prove the case for Christians. Many Old Testament laws are specifically declared not binding in the New Testament (for example, food restrictions). But the logic of opposite-sex marriage and the prohibition on homosexual sex are reaffirmed multiple times.1 Let’s start with Jesus’s framework . Jesus is sometimes caricatured as a prophet of free love, unconcerned about sexual ethics. But his teaching on sexual morality was consistently stricter than the Old Testament law.2 For instance when the Pharisees asked Jesus whether a man may divorce his wife “for any cause,” he replied: Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, “Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one fles

Homosexuality slippery slide into church

Image
If you had asked me ten years ago whether evangelicals would ever give up ground on the issue of homosexuality, I would have said “no way!” Sure, the evangelical movement has always had its “progressive wing.”  And yes, even the term “evangelical” has always been notoriously difficult to define. But whatever “evangelical” means, everyone always seemed to understand that it doesn’t include those who would affirm homosexuality as consistent with God’s will.  Everyone always understood that to affirm homosexuality is to affirm your way right out of evangelicalism. That was a clear line that anyone who wished to remain an evangelical was loathed to cross. And there have been levers within the amorphous evangelical movement that informally identified leaders and authors who had crossed that line.  Unfortunately, these checks on false teaching have not always been located in actual church authorities but in publishing houses and magazine editors. So the gauges have been imperf

Pete Buttigieg child exploitation showcases America’s moral degradation

The stage-managing of children for the depraved goals of homosexuality and gender rebellion needs to come to an end, right now. Pete Buttigieg, the South Bend, Indiana mayor running for president, affirmed  a nine-year old boy’s “gay” identity in front of a cheering Denver crowd. The episode had all the earmarks of a set-up, with this boy being the pawn in a high-stakes game. The least qualified presidential candidate in recent history, who is also a proud homosexual, needs to leave children out of his heretical, artificial quest for significance. Christian couple challenge fostering ban over biblical views

Image
A Christian couple in Australia has launched legal action after they were banned from becoming foster carers due to their biblical views on LGBT issues. Byron and Keira Hordyk said they would love a child who identifies as LGBT as their own but would help them to overcome their sin. Despite an initially favorable report, their application was later refused on the grounds that their views would not ensure ‘a safe living environment’. Discrimination The Hordyks filed a discrimination case, saying that Wanslea Family Services would only appoint foster carers who agree with its LGBT ideology. The couple said their views are part of their Christian faith, which the organization did not attempt to reasonably accommodate. The Equality Opportunity Commission refused to hear their case, and it has now been referred to the State Administrative Tribunal. Forced out In the UK in 2003, two Christian social workers were forced out of their jobs for refusing to place children with

Hallmark bows to LGBT agenda

Image
HALLMARK HAS FOLDED TO THE HOMOSEXUAL AGENDA Hallmark decides to don its gay apparel during the Holy Season that prohibits and condemns the act of homosexuality. So why do it? The Hallmark Channel has built its cable television brand on presenting wholesome family-friendly entertainment, especially during the holidays. Beginning before Thanksgiving, they run uplifting Christmas movies virtually nonstop. The movies feature timeless values and universal themes such as love, forgiveness, togetherness, and family. They offer viewers – most of whom are women with many being Christian moms – the chance to escape the divisiveness that consumes so much of the culture these days, and is a politics-free escape for millions of people. Until the past several weeks, that is In recent weeks, loyal viewers of the channel were shocked to be confronted with a series of ads from a wedding planning website promoting gay ‘marriage.’ One ad features a lesbian ‘wedding’ with a close-up of the two ‘br

LGBT activists reveal how movement gained power, changed laws

A manifesto detailing the strategies transgender lobbying organizations have used to rapidly gain political power and unheard of cultural influence also provides insight into how the western world suddenly finds itself kowtowing to the extreme demands of trans ideology.  The title alone is alarming: “ Only Adults? Good Practices in Legal Gender Recognition for Youth .” Although the slick 64-page document deals with specific practices and tactics that have proved successful for expanding transgender policies and power in a general way, it primarily focuses on how to hand power to children to declare whatever gender they choose while squashing parental authority and concern. Only Adults? Good Practices in Legal Gender Recognition for Youth Over the years, progressives who seek to fundamentally change society have diligently developed strategies that win. They don’t promote ideas that win on their own merit; in fact, they have had amazing success promoting ideas that most people

Intimidate & Shame LGBT tactics

Image
Leaders of the LGBT community have largely abandoned any attempt to rationalize or debate their agenda. Rather, they seek to impose it through intimidation and shaming, and the exercise of raw political power. They are determined to use this power to shut down organizations and groups that help people wishing to leave the LGBT lifestyle, and they want to shut down any attempt to oppose the imposition of their gender ideology. There are a number of groups in the country, many of them Christian ministries, that work to help members of the LGBT community to leave that lifestyle. Very often, these ministries are led by people who themselves are former homosexuals.   There is considerably less support for gender-confused individuals struggling to better understand the issues and research information that raises questions or doubts about transgenderism.   These two things have something in common – helping people leave the LGBT lifestyle and questioning the science of transge

BETO O'ROURKE NEEDS TO THINK BEFORE HE SPEAKS ON SAME-SEX MARRIAGE. IN AMERICA, WE DON'T TAX CHURCHES INTO SUBMISSION

Image
Former Congressman Robert Francis "Beto" O'Rourke isn't exactly setting the world on fire with his campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination. In an Emerson College poll of Democratic caucus-goers in Iowa conducted before and after the debate this week, his support was so low, it didn't even register. The man who was once considered the liberals' best hope for retaking a U.S. Senate seat in overwhelmingly red Texas is running so far in the back of the pack, he's in danger of falling out. Now, he'll have to pander to the single-issue constituencies within the Democratic Party, as well as the 'pundit-crats' who fell in love with him during his Senate bid, for enough support to keep his campaign afloat. That's probably why he answered unhesitatingly and in the affirmative when CNN's Don Lemon asked in a recent forum, "Religious institutions like colleges, churches, charities—should they lose their tax-exempt status i

Veggie Tales and homosexuality

Image
It’s been over three months since the PBS show Arthur aired its homosexual fake marriage episode, and conservatives are still rightly angry the state of kids’ television because of it. In a recent interview with The Christian Post, Phil Vischer, the co-creator of the longtime popular kids’ franchise Veggie Tales shared his concern over shows like Arthur normalizing immoral homosexual relationships.  “The most striking thing about that episode of Arthur wasn’t that they thought it was time to introduce kids to homosexual fake gay marriage; it was the reaction of all the kids on the show,” he said. “None of them asked questions about why two men were getting married. Their reaction was, ‘Oh, OK! Great!’” “It’s such a strong message of, well kids, of course you’re fine with homosexual fake marriage, because there’s nothing to question about it,” he added. Vischer also said he believes Christian programming for children will eventually have to step forward and contradict the message o

The so-called “pastoral accommodation” of homosexuality is actually complete acceptance of it

Image
Some evangelical churches that profess to hold a biblical view of homosexuality are nevertheless accepting practicing homosexuals into membership based on an approach called “pastoral accommodation.” In a recently posted paper , Lee Irons describes this approach and argues against it. Here’s his description of the problem: With the increasing recognition that same-sex attraction is typically unchosen, evangelicals are wrestling with how to the church ought to treat same-sex attracted Christians. A shift toward greater openness is taking place among some evangelical churches committed to the authority of Scripture as the only infallible rule of doctrine and life. A small but growing number of evangelical pastors and congregations have shifted from holding that same-sex activity is irreconcilable with commitment to Christ, to allowing committed same-sex relationships within their membership. It remains to be seen how these evangelicals will answer further questions such as whether

A Gay Writer Who Forgot Almost Everything Jesus Said

Image
The statement was so remarkable I had to read it several times before I was sure my eyes were not deceiving me. It turns out the author meant exactly what he wrote, namely that, “Only once in the recorded life of Jesus does he lay upon the human a requirement.” Yes, this is the stated opinion of Jonathan, writing on Medium. He quotes the words of Jesus, in John 13:34, “I give you a new commandment, to love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.” And he notes that Jesus reaffirmed this in John 15:12: “My commandment is this — to love one another just as I have loved you.” Writes Jonathan, “The ‘commandment’ is singular. That means there’s one.” He finds affirmation for this position in the writings of Paul (Galatians 5:6) and John (1 John 3:11, 3:23, 4:7, 4:11, 4:12; cf. 2 Jn 6), adding his own (quite bizarre) interpretations to a number of biblical texts along the way. His thesis, described in the title and subtitle of his article (which i
