What does the Bible say about Homosexual Marriage?

Image
Rainbow flag. Symbol of immoral homosexual pride. (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) While the Bible does address homosexuality, it does not explicitly mention gay marriage/same-sex marriage. It is clear, however, that the Bible condemns homosexuality as an immoral and unnatural sin. Leviticus 18:22 identifies homosexual sex as an abomination, a detestable sin. Romans 1:26-27 declares homosexual desires and actions to be shameful, unnatural, lustful, and indecent. First Corinthians 6:9 states that homosexuals are unrighteous and will not inherit the kingdom of God. Since both homosexual desires and actions are condemned in the Bible, it is clear that homosexuals “marrying” is not God’s will, and would be, in fact, sinful. Whenever the Bible mentions marriage, it is between a male and a female. The first mention of marriage, Genesis 2:24 , describes it as a man leaving his parents and being united to his wife. In passages that contain instructions regarding marriage, such as 1 Corinthians

Does the Bible mention Lesbians?

The Destruction Of Sodom And Gomorrah, a painting by John Martin (painter), died 1854, thus 100 years. (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) Some are under the assumption that, while the Bible condemns gay sex between men , it nowhere condemns being a lesbian/ lesbianism .  Leviticus 18:22   and  20:13   mention men having sex with other men, but say nothing of women having sex with other women. In the Sodom and Gomorrah account in Genesis 19 , the men of the cities wanted to gang rape other men. First Corinthians 6:9   mentions effeminate men, very likely referring to homosexuals, but does not mention lesbians. So, does the Bible in fact condemn male homosexuality , but not lesbianism? Romans 1:26-27   puts this invalid assumption to rest: “Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones . In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed in

What does the Bible say about bisexuality?

Image
KJV Bible (Photo credit: knowhimonline ) The Bible nowhere directly mentions bisexuality . However, it is clear from the Bible's denunciations of homosexuality that bisexuality would also be considered sinful . Leviticus 18:22 declares having sexual relations with the same sex to be an abomination. Romans 1:26-27 condemns sexual relations between the same sex as abandoning what is natural. First Corinthians 6:9 states that homosexual offenders will not inherit the kingdom of God. These truths apply equally to bisexuals and to homosexuals. The Bible tells us that a person becomes bisexual or homosexual because of sin ( Romans 1:24-27 ). This does not necessarily mean sins the person has committed. Rather, it refers to sin itself. Sin warps, twists, and perverts everything in creation. Bisexuality and homosexuality are caused by sin "damaging" us spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and physically. Sin is the plague, and bisexuality is simply one of the symptoms. Many

Will homosexuals enter heaven?

Image
English: Saint paul arrested (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) The first mention of not inheriting the kingdom of God is found in Paul’s first letter to the church at Corinth . “Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God" ( 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 ). By saying the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God, Paul is stating that the wicked are not children of God, nor are they heirs of eternal life ( Romans 8:17 ). This does not mean that anybody who has ever committed one of these sins will be denied entrance to heaven. What differentiates a Christian’s life from that of a non-Christian is the struggle against sin and the ability to overcome it. A true Christian will always repent, will always eventually return to God, and will always

Is it possible to be homosexual and a Christian?

Image
“Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God ? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God” ( 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 ).  There is a tendency to declare homosexuality as the worst of all sins. While it is undeniable, biblically speaking, that homosexuality is immoral and unnatural ( Romans 1:26-27 ), in no sense does the Bible describe homosexuality as an unforgivable sin . Nor does the Bible teach that homosexuality is a sin Christians will never struggle against. Perhaps that is the key phrase in the question of whether it is possible to be a gay Christian: “struggle against.” It is possible for a Christian to struggle with homosexual temptations. Many homosexuals who become Christians have ongoing struggles with homosexual feelings and desires.  Some strongly heterosexual men and wom

What Does the Bible Say about Believers and Homosexuality?

Image
Every Christian sins. But God in His grace holds His children secure for eternity. Perhaps you are struggling with homosexuality—you still yield to homosexual temptation even though you have truly entrusted your life to Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Will God reject you? No, but realize that God has put His Holy Spirit within you, empowering you to refuse to sin and to live a morally pure life. Do not be deceived—the mere presence of “gay churches” and carefully crafted arguments can never justify a behavior that God calls “immoral.” Declaring right what God says is wrong can never remove guilt from your heart. God tells us to …       “… reject the wrong and choose the right.”       (Isaiah 7:15) “Can a believer in Christ engage in homosexual behavior?” Yes. Christians are not perfect, and they still sin—although they have placed genuine faith in Christ for salvation. Even the apostle Paul said, “Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made pe

Forgiveness for Homosexual sin

Image
Forgivable and changeable through Jesus Christ However ungodly and undeserving of heaven any homosexual might be, there is the opportunity to be forgiven, changed, and declared righteous through Jesus Christ. Paul continues in 1 Cor. 6:11 ( HCSB ) to say, “Some of you were like this.”  The Corinthian church evidently contained some former homosexuals who had been converted. Furthermore, Paul adds of them, “But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.” The homosexual who repents and believes receives the same cleansing, sanctification , and justification as every other believer who turns from sin to Christ. Healing for homosexuals who come to Christ

Image
One of the sweet advantages of insisting that there is no such thing as same-sex “marriage” is that there is therefore also no such thing as same-sex “divorce.” In the days ahead, this will be very good news for many who repent . In the years to come, God will be merciful on thousands of those who have been damaged by the present moral madness of our culture. He will exalt Christ in the conversion of many who have lived in same-sex relationships. More complexities than we can imagine will be presented to us in the church. One of the more difficult scenarios will be what the church should do when, say, two women, who have lived in a so-called married state for some years, are converted to Christ, repent of their sin, and want to join the church. And what if they have children? In this uncharted territory, here is a map with some of the biblical guideposts I foresee. It is not exhaustive. I invite every pastor to pray that God would grant him the great privilege of leading new believe

Love Letter to a Lesbian

Image
By Jackie Hill  Dear ______, I just want you to know that I understand. I understand how it feels to be in love with a woman. To want nothing more than to be with her forever. Feeling as if the universe has played a cruel joke on your heart by allowing it to fall into the hands of a creature that looks just like you. I too was a lesbian. I had same-sex attractions as early as five-years old. As I grew up, those feelings never subsided. They only grew. I would find myself having crushes on my female best friends, but I was far too ashamed to admit it to them — let alone to myself. At the age of 17, I finally made the decision to pursue these desires. I entered into a relationship with a young lady who became my “first.” The first time we kissed, it felt extremely natural, as if this feeling is what I had been missing all along. After her came another woman and then another woman. Both relationships were very serious, each lasting over a year. I enjoyed these relationships and love

Is God tolerant?

Image
Gay rights activists across the country plan to descend upon Chick-fil-A this evening in response to Wednesday’s "Appreciation Day." Here will be a  real-life test of tolerance  for many professing Christians . Now, as political and newsy as it may seem, the main thing to understand about tolerance is this: It is profoundly theological. Yes, tolerance is defensible on the basis of mere reason, and no, you don't have to be a Christian to practice it — or even a theist. But the firmest ground for why we would bother being tolerant goes back to God . We look to the one who has revealed himself ultimately in Jesus Christ and authoritatively in the Bible . God is the most tolerant being ever. Not in terms of the "new tolerance," but as Don Carson points out, according to the truest and best notions of tolerance. Think about God's patience and forbearance. Carson explains that God has ordained a world in which "conflict, idolatry, confrontatio
