A so-called "human rights tribunal" in Canada has just ruled that a Christian activist must pay $55,000 to a provincial politician because he referred to this politician as a "biological male" in a political pamphlet. The politician in question, Morgane Oger (born Ronan Oger), is a biological male. However, he has since "transitioned," and is living his life as a "transgender woman." According to the decision, Bill Whatcott must compensate Oger for injuring the latter's "dignity, feelings, and self-respect." The terrifying precedent set by this case can be illustrated by one, flabbergasting fact: The judge in the case refused to allow Whatcott's lawyer to offer testimony showing that, in point of fact, Oger is a biological male. Not only conservative organizations, but even feminists and one homosexual activist are warning against House Democrats’ “Equality Act,” which they fear will squelch free speech and endanger religious freedoms guaranteed by the Bill of Rights. The conservative Heritage Foundation summarized the threats posed by the bill, noting its potential for “substantial harm.” Heritage warned, “It would force doctors who do not agree with SOGI [Sexual Orientation Gender Identity] ideology to violate their consciences” and “compel speech for all Americans with ‘preferred pronoun’ policies” and “destroy women’s and girls’ sports by forced inclusion of biological men and boys,” among other effects. “Many of these concerns have come to fruition in the 24 states that have already implemented bills similar to H.R. 5,” it said. A lesbian and former Catholic school teacher have written a book claiming Alberta and Ontario’s publicly funded Catholic schools are “potential hotbeds for homophobia,” for which she appears to argue Catholic teaching is to blame. Tonya Callaghan quit teaching in a Catholic school, where she allegedly suffered “homophobia” daily after a homosexual student committed suicide. In an article for The Conversation, Callaghan attributed that to homophobic bullying the standard LGBT response.  She then devoted herself to the research of “homophobia and transphobia” in Catholic schools, and “also to begin to question and understand how these phobias are institutionalized.” Callaghan — now a University of Calgary assistant professor of education — discovered the problem is Catholic teaching on homosexuality. Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel is commonly credited with defining the philosophical structure called dialectic. While I make no claim to be a serious student of Hegel or of philosophy in general, I think I understand the basics of dialectic reasoning enough to refer to its effect on our culture. In simple terms, the system suggests that cultures evolve through a pattern like this: Thesis (a new idea) --> antithesis (opposition to the new idea) --> synthesis (compromise). (No doubt some will call this an oversimplification of the process. But I believe it accurately depicts cultural evolution.) In our nation’s history, we can see examples of this dialectic process bringing about positive change. The abolition of slavery quickly comes to mind. But not all new ideas are worth pursuing. Another prominent video hosting site is cracking down on content supporting therapy for unwanted homosexual attraction, according to the California-based nonprofit Church United. The group, which is dedicated to “equip(ping) pastors as culture-changers” via events in which they “hear high-profile leaders share about the current spiritual crisis,” revealed last week that on November 23 the website Vimeo notified Church United founder and pastor, Jim Domen, that the group had 24 hours to download copies of all 89 of its videos before the account would be permanently shut down. At issue were five videos on the subject of Sexual Orientation Change Efforts (SOCE), particularly controversial California legislation that was withdrawn in August but would have banned virtually any form of treatment for unwanted same-sex attraction. A Christian parent confronted the governors of her child’s primary school about the treatment she and her son received after she objected to the school’s mandatory homosexual “Pride Day” celebrations. That treatment included being barred from entering her five-year-old’s school to discuss the kindergartener being given four hours of detention after his mother’s objections to the LGBT event were made known. Izoduwa Adhedo was one of a group of parents who complained that their children, pupils at Heavers Farm Primary School in South East London, were compelled to take part in the June 29, 2018 “Proud to be Me” event. According to a statement released by the UK’s Christian Legal Centre (CLC), some of these parents, including Mrs. Adhedo, say that they were treated “dismissively” and “victimized” after their objections. A Canadian woman has filed a human rights complaint alleging she had to share a room in a shelter for recovering women addicts with a biological man “transitioning” to a woman. To make matters worse, when she sought advice on her legal rights, Kristi Hanna was told by Ontario’s Human Rights Legal Support Centre she was potentially violating the law by referring to the “trans” woman as a man, the  National Post  reported Thursday. Hanna launched Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario complaint against the Jean Tweed Center, which runs Palmerston House, after allegedly spending two nights in the same room as a biological man. The 37-year-old former paramedic has “been struggling with the lingering effects of sexual abuse and resulting problems with addiction to alcohol and cocaine,” reported the National Post’s Joseph Brean. Hanna alleges in her complaint the shelter “admitted a male-bodied transgender into the safety of my home, bedroom and safe spaces,” and this caused her “stres

Public opinion on whether business owners should be forced to participate in same-sex “weddings” has shifted significantly over the past year, a new survey reveals. Forty-six percent of Americans believe business owners such as  bakers ,  florists ,  caterers ,  invitation designers ,  photographers , and  venue hosts  should be allowed to refuse service and 48 percent do not, according to a  newly-released survey  by the Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI). In August 2017, just 41 percent sided with business owners and 53 percent favored coercion. While white Americans’ views on the subject remain largely unchanged, support for conscience rights rose most sharply among black Americans, 45 percent of whom answered that businesses should be allowed to refuse service (up from 36 percent last year). Only a minority of Hispanics agree, but there too the share rose from 26 percent to 34 percent. Republican support for the right to refuse rose by six points, while Democrat op
