Leaving Homosexuality

Image
Thirty years ago, Alan Chambers was a Christ-loving 10-year-old with a terrible secret. He knew he was attracted to other boys. He also knew that the Bible called homosexuality an "abomination." After nearly a decade of hiding his feelings (and his love of shopping and decorating) from family and pastors, he discovered a ministry called Exodus International . Today, Chambers is the president of Exodus and the author of the book  Leaving Homosexuality . He oversees more than 260 ministries, spearheads large annual conferences, and is married to a woman. Christians who consider themselves "ex-gays" have become a  source of ridicule  in popular culture. Although the evangelical leader  Ted Haggard  isn't affiliated with Exodus, it didn't help the cause when he was outed by a male prostitute he'd been frequenting for years -- and then deemed by his pastors, after just three weeks of therapy, to be  "completely heterosexual."  For many, though,

California Moves To Pass First State Ban of Gay Conversion Therapy

Image
Exodus International (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) The California senate has voted to ban reparative therapy for gay and lesbian teens. The bill, which interestingly enough has been opposed by both the National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality and the California Psychological Association (though for very different reasons ), now goes on to the state assembly. CT has reported how many Christian therapists have abandoned reparative therapy amid broad changes in the ex-gay movement , as well as how Willow Creek Community Church and other groups have ended partnerships with Exodus International . Practitioners of reparative therapy in the United Kingdom have recently lost their licenses over the disputed practice. Image via Wikipedia Image via Wikipedia March 12, 2012 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) - The fast food chain Chick-Fil-A, which has come under attack in the past for the conservative Christian values of its owners, is now fighting homosexual activists who want to see the restaurant kicked off college campuses across the country. According to a  Baptist Press report , the company has been at the center of controversy on at least nine campuses, including Duke University , Northeastern University , and New York University (NYU) . Students who want to see the restaurant kicked off campus or blocked from coming point to its donations to conservative Christian charities as evidence of its “anti-gay” agenda. According to  IRS documents , WinShape , a charitable foundation funded by the company, funneled about $2 million to groups such as the Marriage & Family Legacy Fund, Focus on the Family, Exodus International , and the Family Research Council in 2009. These donations, say NYU freshman Hillary

What Does Exodus Believe About Homosexuality, the Church & the Bible?

Image
Image via Wikipedia Exodus International believes…  that the Bible is the inspired Word of God and is the source for all truth — educating us on how we are to live our lives as physical, spiritual, emotional and sexual beings. Exodus believes that the only biblically sanctioned form of sexual expression is between a man and woman married to one another. Any other sexual expression is biblically defined as sinful and outside God’s intent for human relationships and sexuality. We believe that it is the role of the global Christian church to equip and encourage individuals to live God-honoring lives and to proclaim the hope of salvation through Jesus Christ to the world. Is homosexuality a sin? The Bible is clear that any sexual expression outside of marriage is. Many within Exodus International came to the personal conclusion that homosexuality was incompatible with the life they wanted to live pursuing God’s design as articulated in Scripture and chose instead to reposition their

What Does Exodus Believe About Same-Sex Parenting & Adoption?

Image
Image via Wikipedia Exodus International believes…  that the biblical design for the family and the best environment for raising a biological or adoptive child is one in which the child’s mother and father are married to one another and are present in the home. While legitimate and difficult circumstances often prevent this, the intentional deprivation of a mother or father through same-sex parenting and adoption, is not in the best interest of children. As such, social policy and adoption law should be governed by a desire to ensure the health and well being of future generations. Research promoting same-sex adoption and parenting is flawed Same-sex advocates are quick to assure us that children with same-sex parents are as happy and healthy as children raised in a home where a married mother and father are present. However, most of the research conducted on this issue does not directly compare the two situations and there is no reliable body of research to date. Robert Lerner, Ph.
