Why Obama’s lie on marriage matters

English: Barack Obama delivers a speech at the University of Southern California (Video of the speech) (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) March 6, 2015 ( ThePublicDiscourse.com ) -- When running for the presidency in 2008, Barack Obama misled the voters about his true position on the question of same-sex marriage. This is not an accusation made by one of the president’s political enemies, but an admission made by one of his closest political advisors: David Axelrod . According to  Time  magazine, Axelrod’s new book about his career in politics reveals that candidate Obama really believed in same-sex marriage, but he publicly said that he opposed it because he feared the electoral consequences of his real convictions. In response to the mini-burst of commentary and indignation that this news has provoked, Axelrod has complained—not very convincingly—that his story has been distorted. In an  interview  on the question, he derides criticism of the president’s dishonesty as “gotcha” poli

Italy’s highest court rejects attempt to force ‘gay marriage’, but pushes for civil unions

ROME– Italy ’s highest court has ruled that it is not “discrimination” for Parliament to refuse to create “ gay marriage ” but that the “rights” of  homosexual persons must be upheld by a “protective statute.” The Court of Cassation, the country’s constitutional court, rejected an appeal brought by homosexual activists in an attempt to force the redefinition of marriage . With its constitutional definition of the family as “a natural society founded on marriage,” and with strong public opinion against “gay marriage,” Italy remains one of the last holdouts in the European Union to have not granted legal recognition to homosexual partnerings. That situation, however, has been under a constant barrage of litigation and lobbying efforts in the courts and Parliament, pressure that has increased significantly in the last three years. In its ruling this week, the court rejected the proposal that “the absence of a law for gay marriage produces discrimination.” But it followed this with

Homosexuals vastly overrepresented in Parliament, distorting democracy:

Image
LONDON, May 5, 2014 – An outsider British politician has outraged homosexual activists and their supporters in media and Parliament by saying there are too many homosexual MPs compared to the numbers of homosexuals in the general population, and that their habit of insider patronage is damaging the democratic process and encouraging corruption. “There are far too many homosexuals in Parliament. Even the Speaker of the House of Commons , Nigel Evans is under investigation for sexually harassing other men,” English Democrat MEP candidate Julia Gasper  wrote on April 7 . “They are only 1.5 percent of the population, a proportion that justifies about 10 MPs in total, yet there seem to be hundreds of them, all in important positions and giving each other favors.” Julia Gasper “That is a violation of democracy,” she wrote. Today, Gasper posted a notice to her blog saying, “Please keep the abusive messages, foul language, and death threats coming in. They are all being put into

Italian court rules that Tuscan city must accept gay ‘marriage’ contracted in New York

Image
ROME,  – A court in the Tuscan city of Grosseto has ordered the city council to accept the “marriage” of two men, the first time such a union has been given juridical recognition in Italy . Giancarlo Cerrelli, vice president of the Catholic Lawyer’s Guild, says the ruling is a “creative judgment that takes no account of the Civil Code and the jurisprudence of the European Union .” Two homosexual men, Giuseppe Chigiotti and Stefano Bucci, contracted a legal “marriage” ceremony in New York in December last year, then returned to Italy and filed a suit against the town of Grosseto in an attempt to force the issue through the courts. The method has been highly successful in most jurisdictions around the western world, where courts in Canada, the US, Britain, Australia, and across Europe have been used by homosexual activists to overturn laws defining natural marriage. Despite what some media outlets have claimed, however, both legal experts and homosexual activists recognize

Malta legalizes same-sex civil unions as bill passes 37-0

Image
VALLETTA, April 15, 2014 – In a vote of 37 to 0, the Parliament of Malta yesterday passed a measure to allow same-sex partners to contract legal civil unions, with similar rights and responsibilities to natural marriage. Despite  strong public opposition  to the idea, the bill also allows same-sex civil partners to adopt children. The entire caucus of the opposition Nationalist Party of 30 MPs abstained from the vote. Maltese President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca , who took office April 4, had pledged to sign the bill. Her predecessor, President George Abela , had  refused to sign a civil unions bill  just last month. Maltese President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca The provision allowing same-sex adoption was particularly controversial. Nationalist Party leader Simon Busuttil quoted a recent survey that showed 80 per cent of Maltese citizens oppose “gay adoption.” “Malta has not been prepared for such a step,” he said. But Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, leader of the Labour Pa

The summit is meant to address a host of issues on which the EU and Africa cooperate. Homosexuality is not one of them. African governments reacted negatively when the European Parliament passed a resolution last month threatening sanctions on countries that punish homosexual acts. The resolution was a response to Uganda and Nigeria toughening sodomy laws and outlawing the promotion of homosexuality and same-sex marriage. The European Parliament asked that the governments of Uganda and Nigeria no l
