African Christians and Homosexuality

Image
"Homosexuality & the Bible" booklet (Photo credit: Fellowship of Reconciliation ) In traditional Africa , homosexuality and lesbianism, same-sex intercourse and same-sex marriage were not mentioned in public. If they were mentioned at all, it was only in hushed tones. Given the traditional stress on procreation, even the idea of heterosexual intercourse without procreative intent was abhorrent. Homosexual intercourse was considered even more disgusting. Two African leaders have articulated this strong feeling against homosexuality. Daniel Arap Moi , the former president of Kenya, is reported to have said: “Kenya has no room or time for homosexuals and lesbians. Homosexuality is against African norms and traditions and even in religion it is considered a great sin. Homosexuality is a scourge which runs counter to Christian teachings and African tradition.” Similarly, the president of Zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe has said, “I find it extremely outrageous and repugnant to m

Long before same-sex marriage, no-fault divorce and birth control drastically shaped attitudes about marriage by eroding social stigmas against unmarried parenting, cohabitation, and sex outside marriage.

Don't like gay marriage ? Don't get one. My gay marriage doesn't change anything about your straight marriage . We're not altering the definition of marriage; we're expanding it. These new rights don't take away yours. So don't try to deny them to us. The startling rise in public approval for gay marriage depends on such simple appeals to intuition.  Look at all these happy gay couples. Why not invite them to join the party and get married? It's not like straight couples have done such a good job of commending the institution. Besides, what consenting adults do in the privacy of their bedrooms is their business alone. To our highly individualistic Western culture , only libertarian arguments make any sense, even to many Christians.  Personally we might say homosexuality is a sin; but what right do we have to impose our values on anyone else? If they aren't harming anyone else, then who can deny their gay marriages equal protection under the law

Washington National Cathedral to perform immoral homosexual marriage

WASHINGTON, D.C. , January 10, 2013 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) – Washington National Cathedral , which has long been called “the nation’s church” for its prominent role in the religious life of presidents, lawmakers and other famous leaders, will begin celebrating same-sex “ marriages ” effective immediately, officials said Wednesday. The Cathedral will be among the first Episcopal churches to begin celebrating a new rite of “marriage” for its homosexual members added by Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde of the Washington diocese in December. Budde’s diocese includes D.C. and a large part of Maryland .  Same-sex “marriage” is now legal in both jurisdictions.  Washington National Cathedral This diocesan expansion of the church’s definition of marriage is permitted under a “local option” granted by the Episcopal Church’s General Convention . At least for now, each priest in the diocese will have the freedom to decide whether to perform same-sex unions. The century-old cathedral has long

Episcopal bishops approve blessing for gay unions: Convention approves transgender clergy

Image
150 px (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) INDIANAPOLIS,  — Yesterday, the House of Bishops of the Episcopalian Church approved a new provisional blessing for gay unions, while the full General Convention voted in favor of general acceptance for transgender clergy. The votes are likely to drive a further wedge between the Episcopalian Church and the Worldwide Anglican Communion , which has been torn apart in recent years by the debate about homosexuality. At the denomination’s convention in Indianapolis, the House of Bishops  voted  111-41 in favor of Resolution A049 , a motion to instate a rite for blessing same-sex unions. That vote clears the resolution for consideration by the House of Deputies , which must also approve it before it becomes official church policy. In a separate vote, the Episcopal House of Deputies  approved  “anti-discrimination language” for transgendered clergy candidates, making clear the church-wide acceptance of ordination of “transgender” persons. Why Homosexuality is sinful and against a healthy society

English: Gender symbols, sexual orientation: heterosexuality, homosexuality, bisexuality. Česky: (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) Homosexuality involves sexual attraction to those of the same sex. Homosexuals may be either male or female (with the latter group sometimes referred to as lesbians). It may be constitutional (or static), in which case it is a “predominant and persistent psychosexual attraction towards members of the same sex”. This sexual preference is a fixed reality in the person’s life, even though it may or may not be acted on. Alternatively, homosexuality may be situational (or dynamic). Situational homosexuality tends to occur when someone has a series of homosexual experiences during a specific period, for example, while imprisoned or during a war, but then reverts to heterosexuality when the situation changes. Much of the modern attempt to justify homosexuality is based on the belief that certain people are constitutionally homosexual, possibly even at the

Various scientific and biological arguments have been advanced in support of this belief. It is argued that such people hav

Break away church seeking to avoid gay bishops have their building sold to muslims

Image via Wikipedia Image via Wikipedia When the Church of the Good Shepherd in Binghamton, N.Y., left the Episcopal Church over disagreements about what the Bible says about sexuality, the congregation offered to pay for the building in which it worshiped. In return the Episcopal Church sued to seize the building, then sold it for a fraction of the price to someone who turned it into a mosque. The congregation is one of hundreds that split or altogether left the Episcopal Church—a member of the Anglican Communion found mostly in the United States—after a decades-long dispute over adherence to scripture erupted with the consecration of a partnered gay bishop in 2003. But negotiating who gets church buildings hasn't been easy. Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori said she'd rather have these properties become Baptist churches or even saloons than continue as sanctuaries for fellow Anglicans. The Episcopalian congregations that want to break away are part of a larger m
