Why did theologian J.I.Packer walk away from the Anglican church?

In 2002, the synod of the Anglican Diocese of New Westminster authorized its bishop to produce a service for blessing same-sex unions, to be used in any parish of the diocese that requests it. A number of synod members walked out to protest the decision. They declared themselves out of communion with the bishop and the synod, and they appealed to the Archbishop of Canterbury and other Anglican primates and bishops for help. (1) J. I. Packer was one of those who walked out. When asked why he walked out, he answered, “Because this decision, taken in its context, falsifies the gospel of Christ, abandons the authority of Scripture, jeopardizes the salvation of fellow human beings, and betrays the church in its God -appointed role as the bastion and bulwark of divine truth.” In other words, it was Packer’s confidence in the functional, life-directing authority of Scripture that led to this decision. “My primary authority,” wrote Packer, “is a Bible writer named Paul. Archbishop of Wales: We ‘have evolved’ from the Bible’s teaching on divorce, why not gay ‘marriage’?

LLANDUDNO, Wales ,  – The Anglican Church ’s “views have evolved and changed” on the nature of marriage “a subject which Jesus pronounced very clearly,” the head of the Anglican Church in Wales said this week; therefore, it can also change its teaching on homosexuality. In  an address  to the governing body of the Church in Wales, Dr. Barry Morgan, the Anglican Archbishop of Wales warned of the danger of the Anglican Churches being “seen as homophobic.” Morgan said that the Church’s views “evolve and change” as it responds to the changes in the secular world. Abp. Barry Morgan of Wales “The State allowed the possibility of divorce and remarriage for a long time before we did as a Church. Not only do we now bless such unions, we actually remarry divorced people in our churches,” he said. “Some people have changed their minds for example on women’s ministry and same-sex relationships when they have experienced the ministry of a woman priest in the one case, or discovere

The Head of the Anglican Church should be dismissed

A gay clergyman has become the first ordained priest to break the Church of England's ban on same-sex marriages to wed his partner. The African Church is calling for his immediate dismissal. Canon Jeremy Pemberton, who is a hospital chaplain in Lincolnshire , is reported to have tied the knot with long-term partner Laurence Cunnington in a ceremony at a hotel on Saturday, describing the nuptials as "a lovely wedding". Last month, same-sex marriages became legal in England and Wales after a change in the law was voted in by MPs . However, the Church of England, while advising its clergy to offer pastoral support to members of their congregation in same-sex marriages, barred gay ordained priests from being wed. The House of Bishops ' pastoral guidance on same-sex marriage, issued in February, reads: "It considers that it would not be appropriate conduct for someone in holy orders to enter into a same-sex marriage, given the need for clergy to model the Churc

David Cameron should resign for bringing Immoral Homosexual marriage to the UK

Ignorant of God's law and Christ's prohibition, pride come before a fall. (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) BRITISH Prime Minister David Cameron has hailed the first same-sex marriages in England and Wales as sending a “powerful message” about equality. The message is simply we reject Christ and God almighty and the Bible. The law changed on Saturday after midnight, with a number of gay couples vying to claim the title of being the first to be married in Britain by trying to time it perfectly so their vows were said just seconds after the clock struck 12. Using marriage as a form of up your nose we told you so. The prime minister said the reform was necessary because “when people's love is divided by law, it is that law that needs to change”. The PM is however a very confused man when it comes to marriage and love and should stand down immediately. Writing in the gay news service, Pink News , he said “this weekend is an important moment for our country” because “we wil

Church of England rejects ‘gay blessings’ and will not ordain clergy in ‘gay marriage’

LONDON , February 18, 2014  – In a surprise move, the main governing body of the Church of England has rejected proposals to create a “blessing” ceremony for same-sex “weddings.”  In a  guidance  issued Saturday on same-sex “marriage,” the House of Bishops also said it “is not willing for those who are in a same sex marriage to be ordained to any of the three orders of ministry.”  “Services of blessing should not be provided. Clergy should respond pastorally and sensitively in other ways,” the guidance reads. These other ways could include offering an informal prayer over the partners. “In addition it considers that it would not be appropriate conduct for someone in holy orders to enter into a same sex marriage, given the need for clergy to model the Church’s teaching in their lives.” “Getting married to someone of the same sex would, however, clearly be at variance with the teaching of the Church of England. The declarations made by clergy and the canonical requi

UK Methodists begin consultation on conducting same-sex ‘marriages’

The Methodist Church in the UK is undertaking a consultation of its members about whether the church should become the first Christian denomination in Britain to offer church “weddings” to same-sex couples. Members of the approximately 5,000 Methodist congregations across Britain have been given until February 10, 2014 to express their views on same-sex "marriage," when the results of the consultation will be assessed by the Methodist Conference, the church’s policy-making body. The church could become the first Christian denomination in Britain to offer church “weddings” to same-sex couples. The Methodist Church currently defines marriage as a “gift of God” that is “a lifelong union in body, mind and spirit of one man and one woman.”  However, the Methodist Conference has  stated  that this definition is now "at odds" with the terms of the UK's Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Act, which comes into force next year.  In July the Methodist Conference set
