UK Police arrest people who speak against Homosexuality

Image
A street preacher has been awarded £4,250 in damages after a judge ruled it was wrong of police to arrest and handcuff him after he spoke out against homosexuality. Anthony Rollins, who suffers from Asperger’s syndrome , was preaching in Birmingham city centre in June 2008 when a member of the public, John Edwards, took offence at comments he made describing homosexual conduct as morally wrong. According to the Christian Institute , which backed Mr Rollins’ case, police arrived on the scene after receiving a call from Mr Edwards and PC Adrian Bill proceeded to handcuff Mr Rollins without any further inquiry. Birmingham County Court ruled on Wednesday that PC Bill had committed assault and battery against Mr Rollins by handcuffing him unnecessarily. Judge Lance Ashworth QC said in his ruling on Wednesday that the arrest demonstrated a “lack of thoughtfulness”. PC Bill, the judge ruled, had made the arrest “as a matter of routine without any thought being given to Mr Rollins’ Conventi

Homosexual couple demand church wedding or take church to court!

Less than two weeks after the coalition government’s gay “marriage” bill was signed into law, a homosexual man has launched a lawsuit against a Church of England parish in Maldon for refusing him and his civil partner the lavish church wedding of their dreams. Barrie Drewitt-Barlow told the Essex Chronicle that he has launched the suit because, despite the law, “I am still not getting what I want.” Section 9 of the Marriage ( Same Sex Couples ) Act 2013, which comes into effect next year, grants anyone in a civil partnership the ability to convert that partnership into a “marriage.” But the law contains measures specifically to preclude unwilling churches from being forced to participate. Barrie Drewitt-Barlow, left, with boyfriend Tony. Drewitt-Barlow said, “The only way forward for us now is to make a challenge in the courts against the church. It is a shame that we are forced to take Christians into a court to get them to recognize us.” “But we don't want to fo

Homosexual marriage agenda targets Christian freedom

Three British Christians who argued that their beliefs saw them wrongly disciplined by their employers for actions such as refusing to counsel same-sex couples have lost their legal battle at the European court of human rights . Shirley Chaplin, Gary McFarlane and Lillian Ladele   had their appeals to the Strasbourg court rejected in January  as part of the same ruling as that in which Nadia Eweida , a British Airways check-in attendant, won her fight against being banned from wearing a cross at work. The three sought to resolve the matter in the court's grand chamber, its final arbiter. However,  judges at the court have rejected the request , in effect ending the legal battle. The success for Eweida, who was awarded €2,000 (£1,600) in compensation after a seven-year struggle with the airline – a decision welcomed by David Cameron among others – partly overshadowed the contrasting judgment in the cases of Chaplin, McFarlane and Ladele. Chaplin, 57, a geriatrics nurse f

Northern Ireland legislature rejects ‘gay marriage’…again

Image
For the second time in a year, the Legislative Assembly of Northern Ireland has rejected attempts to install “gay marriage” in the province, in a vote of 53 to 42. A similar motion was defeated by 50 votes to 45  last October . Mike Judge, communications director for the Christian Institute said the motion was introduced by Sinn Fein following a decision by the Republic of Ireland to have a referendum on redefining marriage. Northern Ireland's Legislative Assembly “But the proposal in the Assembly did not give the people of Northern Ireland any say in the matter – and that spoke volumes.” But Judge said that the active opposition of Christians both in Northern Ireland and in Britain had a decisive impact. “It just shows that the plans to redefine marriage can be defeated when people are prepared to take action,” he said. The vote against same-sex “marriage” will likely cause tension between Northern Irish MPs at Westminster and the efforts by the David Cameron g

Orthodox Presbyterian breakaway group kicked out of hotel for opposing ‘gay marriage’

ABERDEEN, Scotland , March 26, 2013 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) – A small breakaway church group has been banned from using a meeting room at a hotel in Aberdeen over their opposition to same-sex “marriage” and homosexual activity . The Gilcomston church were turned away from the Copthorne Hotel, where they were to hold their first communion service on March 10th , the Christian Institute reports. The hotel said they banned the group after they received complaints from clients and members of the public that their views on marriage were “offensive”. The group has been temporarily allowed to move back into their church building , owned by the Church of Scotland . The group’s minister said, “We were just going to have a church service. So much for the tolerant society. It made us feel hounded.” The group, about 300-strong, formally left the Church of Scotland, called the Kirk, after the Presbyterian denomination started ordaining active and unrepentant homosexual ministers. In 2009, the Ki

LONDON , October 19, 2012  - A judge has ruled that the Christian owner of a bed and breakfast broke equality laws in refusing a bed to a homosexual couple and ordered her to pay £3,600 in damages. Susanne Wilkinson, who owns the Swiss B &B in Cookham , Berkshire, has been ordered to pay compensation for “injury to feelings” to two men she turned away, because she rents rooms in her family-owned business only to married couples . Last January, homosexual couple Michael Black, 63, and John Morgan, 58,  sued Mrs. Wilkinson for discrimination  after she informed the two men that “it is against my convictions for two men to share a bed.” She added, “This is my private home.” Mrs. Wilkinson returned their deposit and asked them, politely, to leave. Responding to the ruling, Mrs. Wilkinson said, “Naturally, my husband and I are disappointed to have lost the case and to have been ordered to pay £3,600 in damages for hurt feelings. We have the option to appeal, and we will gi

What happens when we redefine marriage?

Image
October 10, 2012 ( Mercatornet.com ) - Back  in January  I set out David Cameron ’s proposals for creating same-sex marriage, which he announced at the British Conservative Party ’s annual Conference in October 2011, alongside some arguments against those plans. A year later, the controversy has moved on. There are now two parallel movements for same-sex marriage in the UK , a result of the devolution of powers to the Scottish Government .  A consultation  in Scotland ended in December 2011 and its results were snuck out shortly before Olympic fever dominated the Isles. It is notable how divisive same-sex marriage has been north of Hadrian’s Wall: an ‘unprecedented’ 77,508 responses were received in the ‘largest consultation exercise of its type ever held in Scotland’. Over 33,000 responses were submitted via forms amended by organisations with an interest in the two core proposals of same-sex civil marriage and religious civil partnerships. Scotland forges ahead with gay ‘marriage’ plans amidst widespread opposition

English: Scottish Government logo Español: Logo del Gobierno de Escocia (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) EDINBURGH, August 8, 2012 – A Scottish Presbyterian denomination, the Free Church of Scotland , told media this week that “tens of thousands” of Scottish people responded to a public consultation with a “definitive no” to the government’s plans to install “ gay marriage .” But by pushing forward with the gay ‘marriage’ plans anyway, the government is rendering “the whole exercise completely meaningless,” said the denomination. The government, they said, is “riding roughshod” over the “clear opposition” expressed by the overwhelming majority. A spokesman for the church said, “The Scottish Government’s decision to press ahead with these plans is astounding given the huge number of Scots who have said that they do not want marriage to be redefined.” “Not only are the Scottish Government redefining marriage, but obviously redefining what consultation means as well.” The Sco
