Australia: Coopers controversy: Less politics, more beer please

Image
THERE is a simple and elegant solution to the problem of people being annoyed by brewers doing promotional deals with the Bible Society , or phone companies waving the rainbow flag for gay marriage : Stop listening. Stop caring. Stop paying attention to anything that a business has to say about anything that is not connected to its core business . If a manufacturer wants to make noise about trade policy or the price of electricity , fair enough, that’s bread and butter stuff. But if that same company decides to start playing in the social policy arena, the most appropriate response is to say “what would they know?” and move on. In a healthy society people can have disagreements with one another and still do business together. Likewise, in an ideal world companies would stick to providing quality goods and services rather than believing their success is dependent on their political stances. But in an unhealthy society, not so much. That is why the events of the past week were s

College forbids Chick-fil-A, citing CEO’s pro-marriage views

Image
Chick-fil-A Austin-TX (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) A "small cohort" of students at the University of Nebraska Kearney (UNK) stopped Chick-fil-A from opening on campus by complaining about the marriage view of Chick-fil-A's CEO. In January, the student body voted Chick-fil-A the most wanted restaurant for their campus, but a few students who object to traditional opinion successfully fought the decision. UNK student government president Evan Calhoun explained, "After hearing these concerns raised by a section of our student body, we concluded that these corporate values are not aligned with our values as a student body." Calhoun called Chick-fil-A CEO Dan Cathy 's personal opinion in defense of marriage "discriminatory policies," without elaborating on what specific policies he was referring to.  Chick-fil-A serves and hires without discrimination, but the popular chicken franchise came under fire from LGBTQ activists when CEO Cath

Say anything negative - loose your job - Same sex madness

Has there ever been a sweeter-sounding, more goosebump-inducing phrase than ‘ Freedom to marry ’? Everyone likes freedom (even illiberal politicians pay lip service to liberty), and who doesn’t love a good wedding? Marry these two things together (pun intended) and you end up with an endorphin-releasing buzzphrase that will make anyone grin wildly. So it has been following Senator David Leyonhjelm’s unveiling of the Freedom to Marry Bill. Across Oz, right-minded people who think gays must be allowed to get hitched experienced paroxysms of joy at the introduction of this new phrase into the political vernacular. Sure, those of a leftish bent had trouble computing the fact that it’s a classical liberal politician who’s championing their most beloved cause. But the instant they made peace with this seeming anomaly, they, together with small-l liberals, gay-rights activists and the Age-reading patrons of non-chain coffee shops across the land (well, in Melbourne ), were giving themselve

True marriage supporters ‘not welcome’ in New York: councilman

Image
NEW YORK,  – A New York City councilman has effectively told traditional marriage supporters they are “not welcome” in the Big Apple. In response to  Chick-fil-A’s proposed plans  to expand their business and set up restaurants in several locations, including New York City, Councilman Daniel Dromm   told the  Huffington Post  that the fast-food chain would not be welcome in the most populous city in the country. Councilman Daniel Dromm “We don’t need bigots coming to New York City,” Dromm told HuffPost . “They are not welcome here unless they can embrace all of New York’s diverse community, including the LGBT community .” Chick-fil-A made national headlines in 2012 when CEO Dan Cathy   voiced his belief in traditional marriage .  His remarks sparked  scathing reactions  from  pro-homosexual politicians and the homosexual lobby. Despite the onslaught of pro-homosexuality antagonism, the fast-food chain received an  even larger outpouring of support  after the incident, in

Homosexuals activists try to close a shop because the owner on Facebook believes in Godly marriage

Where is the national outcry over the news coming last week from  Portland, Oregon , about Chauncy Childs and the new business she's trying to start? You haven't heard of her? I'm not surprised. That's because she's not a gay activist. She's not a radical leftist trying to redefine marriage and family to suit her own personal desires. Instead, she's a pro-marriage individual who posted on her private Facebook page some expressions of her beliefs. So you probably haven't heard how gay activists are trying to force her business closed before it even opens its doors. They've even been posting lists of vendors that trade with her small shop, Moreland Farmers Pantry, and calling for a boycott of those other businesses until they sever ties with Mrs. Childs. One local restaurant owner, a man who actually supports same-sex ‘marriage,' spoke up against the bullying targeted at Mrs. Childs —  and now his restaurant has been targeted by a separate b

Daniel Dromm wants people with private held beliefs against homosexuals to leave New York!

Image
"Stay out of New York City ." That is effectively the message that a City Councilman named Daniel Dromm has sent to you, me, and millions of pro-marriage Americans — including the millions who already live in the city that never sleeps.  And none of us, least of all New Yorkers, can allow ourselves to remain silent about it. Dromm sent his message by way of remarks to the  Huffington Post , when he said of anyone who believes in marriage as the union of one man and one woman: We don't need bigots coming to New York City. They are not welcome here unless they can embrace all of New York's diverse community, including the LGBT community . [...] We don't need bigoted people even keeping their opinions to themselves. They need to wake up and see reality. "Not welcome here." Yes, you read that right.  An individual's own privately-held beliefs, if they conflict with Mr. Drumm's radical new orthodoxy, even if those beliefs are never  pub

Can we change the minds of gay marriage zealots?

Image
http://www.theatlantic.com/national/archive/2013/12/being-against-gay-marriage-doesnt-make-you-a-homophobe/282333/ The  Atlantic  has up until now been horrendous about labeling anyone who doesn't support same-sex marriage homophobes . But they published this piece by a gay guy saying that gays should stop labeling people homophobes just because they don't agree with their hard-boiled and uncompromising "equality" ( Orwellian phrase) agenda. I thank Brandon Ambrosino for this gesture. But I don't think it's much of a game changer. I've heard this before -- many, many, many times, from the people pushing same-sex parenting. They want to listen, to understand, to be respectful ... as long as we eventually admit to having been wrong, shut up, and let them go on pushing their sexual destruction on every corner of the globe. I've been around the block with ligbitist writers too many times not to recognize this sly little game: knowing they're gett

(Photo credit: Wikipedia ) NEW HAVEN, CT , April 17, 2013 ( LifeSiteNews ) – An Enfield, CT man who  pleaded guilty  to sending hundreds of threatening letters to the head of a pro-life, pro-family group in Hartford was sentenced Tuesday to five years’ probation by a federal judge. Daniel Sarno, 54, who is homosexual, admitted to sending over 300 letters to Peter Wolfgang, executive director of the  Family Institute of Connecticut , expressing his anger over the Family Institute’s opposition to same-sex “marriage.”  The letters he sent were uniformly abusive.  Many contained death threats. “No mercy for homophobes,” one letter  read . “I suggest you make your funeral arrangements real soon, Mr. Wolfgang. (I should know.)” Another letter  said , “I sure hope somebody blows you away. Yer dead.” Yet another asked, “Are ‘family values’ worth dying for, Mr. Wolfgang?” Sarno pleaded guilty last August to sending the threatenin

Chick-fil-A has made ‘no such concessions’ to the gay agenda: Dan Cathy denies media reports

Image
CHICAGO, – After a Chicago alderman  claimed last week  that Chick-fil-A had agreed not to fund pro-family organizations, the fast food chain’s president Dan Cathy has set the record straight. “Chick-fil-A made no such concessions, and we remain true to who we are and who we have been,” he said in a statement posted on Mike Huckabee ’s website on Friday. Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy. Last week, First Ward Alderman Proco “Joe” Moreno, who has been opposing Chick-fil-A’s attempts to open a franchise because of Cathy’s traditional marriage views,  claimed  that the Christian business had agreed that its philanthropy arm, the WinShape Foundation, would no longer support organizations that oppose redefining marriage. The news was widely reported in the mainstream media as a major “victory” for the pro-homosexual movement. However, the pro-family organization  MassResistance  told LifeSiteNews.com in an e-mail that a spokeswoman for the fast food chain specifically said th
