A new Centers for Disease Control (CDC)   report   says that societal "stigma" is at least partially responsible for the staggeringly high percentage of transgender men who have HIV/AIDS. According to the CDC, more than one-in-four (28 percent) men who identify as women - "transgender women" - are infected with the HIV virus, the precursor to AIDS. The report found that less than half of those infected report their HIV status. "Individual behaviors alone do not account for the disparate HIV diagnoses among transgender people ," states the report. "Many cultural, socioeconomic, and health-related factors contribute to these diagnoses and prevention challenges in transgender communities." Among those factors are "receptive anal sex without a condom or medicines to prevent HIV ... sex with multiple partners, and exchanging sex for drugs or money." Over 750,000 people have pledged to boycott Target over the company’s new policy allowing men to use women’s bathrooms . The American Family Association, which launched the   petition , says the fact that it’s generated such a large response in only five days shows how outraged Americans are. “American families are concerned about their wives and daughters being harmed by predators or voyeurs who will now have more freedom to enter women’s bathrooms,” AFA president Tim Wildmon . “There are many more sex offenders in America than transgender people, so we believe that Target should keep separate facilities for men and women, but for the transgender community and for those who simply like using the bathroom alone, a single occupancy unisex option should be provided, as AFA has proposed.” Target announced its new policy last week, writing in a statement that it would allow people to use bathrooms based on their self-determined “ gender identity ” and not biological reality.

In the name of “dismantl[ing] systemic transphobia ” a Toronto public school teacher has announced he is now using all-gender cabins for students on school camping trips, stating explicitly that the school did not obtain parental permission for the move.  Stating that the province’s new 2012 transgender law (Bill 33) made “schools legally responsible for eliminating barriers to inclusion based on gender identity and gender expression,” the teacher stated that parents simply had to accept the new “cultural mind shift.” “Here, adults had to grapple with a new legal reality; this meeting was not a request for permission but rather an opportunity to give input into how to make all-gender cabins a reality,” wrote David Stocker, a member of the Elementary Teachers of Toronto, in the   Spring edition   of ETFO Voice.  Students, led by the transgender activist teacher, voted that “wearing underwear around the cabin was acceptable” for both boys and girls and those who identify

SAN ANTONIO, Texas , December 8, 2011  – A woman has been fired from a Macy’s department store for denying a man dressed as a woman access to the women’s fitting room . “I had to either comply with Macy’s or comply with God,” said Natalie Johnson, 27, a former employee at the retail giant’s location in Rivercenter Mall , San Antonio. Natalie Johnson says she was concerned for her female customers, who she thought might be uncomfortable about having a man in their fitting room. According to Johnson, on November 30th she witnessed a young cross-dressing man wearing make-up and girl’s clothing exit the women’s fitting room. She told the man “politely” that the women’s fitting room was for women only, making it clear that he was not to make use of the room again.
