Australian Labor Party intolerant of those who hold traditional marriage views

Image
The same-sex marriage debate entered a new phase of intolerance with Labor voting to expel parliamentarians who advocate man-woman only marriage. In two Parliaments time , Labor MPs and Senators who vote against redefining marriage will be expelled from the party. Australian Christian Lobby Managing Director Lyle Shelton said this was devastating for the millions of ethnic, indigenous and religious Australians who will never support a state-imposed redefinition of marriage . "Sadly this is a cynical ploy to force the Coalition to drop its policy on marriage when Labor's real agenda is one of intolerance to its own who dissent. "If this is the principle Labor forces its people to comply with, what will be the out-working of this principle on dissenters when it is next in power? "Will there be freedom of conscience to choose not to provide services to same-sex weddings? "Will Christian, Muslim and Jewish schools be allowed to teach children a definition of

Fox News’ Bret Baier, actor Gary Sinise cancel on Church group after gay gripes

Image
FOX News Channel 's chief political anchor, Bret Baier , has shown himself to have a thinner skin than might be guessed from his on-air persona.  Baier has caved in to pressure from the homosexual activist group ‘Good as You’ to back out of a speaking engagement at a mainstream Catholic conference.  Also backing out for the same reason was Hollywood actor Gary Sinise of  Forrest Gump  and  CSI: NY  fame. The gay activist complaint is a repeat of last year when actor Bob Newhart was successfully bullied into backing out of his speaking engagement at the Legatus Summit. Legatus, which was begun by Domino’s Pizza founder Tom Monaghan in 1987 to network Catholic business leaders, is faithful to the Church’s Magisterium and therefore upholds the Church’s teachings on all moral matters including homosexuality. The Catechism of the Catholic Church sees all people regardless of their sexual desires as children of God and deserving of respect.  The Church however teaches that t

Judge refuses to toss suit against Catholic school that fired teacher for ‘marrying’ gay partner

SEATTLE, WA , May 29, 2014  – A Washington judge last week denied a request by Eastside Catholic School and the Archdiocese of Seattle to dismiss a  discrimination lawsuit  filed by the school’s former vice principal, who was forced to resign in December for “ marrying ” his homosexual lover. Mark Zmuda sued Eastside Catholic in March, claiming the school violated its own discrimination policy in asking him to leave his job.  But the school has repeatedly pointed to the morality clause Zmuda and all diocesan employees have signed, agreeing to publicly uphold the teachings of the Catholic faith , which expressly forbid same-sex “marriage.” School and archdiocesan attorneys asked King County Superior Court Judge Catherine Shaffer to toss out the suit, arguing that the court had no jurisdiction to rule on the case without violating the school’s first amendment right to freedom of religion.   But in a decision issued Friday, Shaffer disagreed, writing, “The Federal and Supr

California bishop defends diocesan talk by former gay porn actor on the dangers of homosexuality

SANTA ROSA, CA , March 13, 2014  – “ Courage ,” an official apostolate of the Roman Catholic Church , often faces criticism from Catholics and non-Catholics who believe it is a harmful part of the Church's doctrine on marriage. In Santa Rosa, California, however, Bishop Robert Vasa is ignoring these criticisms in their entirety. Last week, Vasa  sponsored a program  that included a presentation by former homosexual porn actor Joseph Sciambra to the local arm of Courage. Sciambra, who has a book on his experiences and how they led him to embrace the Church, believes that homosexual relationships are devastatingly harmful to the bodies and souls of men who engage in sex with other men.  Bishop Robert Vasa Critics of Bishop Vasa and Sciambra have abounded. However, the bishop has been a source of relief to serious Catholics. While critics say that having an abstinent man with same-sex attractions present to Courage harms acceptance of homosexuals in the Church, orthodo

On homosexuality, the ‘yuck factor’ is not enough

In our increasingly superficial culture, many moral decisions are made based on surface appearances, emotional reactions to those appearances, and an alarming lack of intellectual or volitional activity to check those emotional reactions. This has serious ramifications for all of us, who want to evangelize the larger society of which we are a part. Whereas many of the issues we might consider as specimens of this would be on the “left” side of the cultural divide — abortion, contraception, divorce, etc. — I will focus on only one issue, and keep myself to censuring those on the “right” side of that divide. (And the word “right” has a double meaning here.) The issue is homosexuality. I am taking issue with those who are fundamentally correct in opposing the vice, but inadequately rooted in their principles and therefore unreliable in their actions. The sin of Sodom is a grave matter, which means that to commit it is a sin, i.e., something so heinous that one instance of it a

Notre Dame President: ‘Creation of the GLBTQ Group Is a big immoral illogical step backards!

Image
December 4, 2013 ( The Cardinal Newman Society ) - The Rev. John Jenkins, president of Notre Dame , explained in a recent  article in  The Observer  that he created an Oversight Committee on Diversity and Inclusion to create a welcoming atmosphere on campus that “go[es] across all areas” of campus for students, faculty, and staff.  He said that the committee “seeks to implement concrete changes on campus, but noticeable progress will not occur overnight.” In the article, Fr. Jenkins is quoted lauding the steps already taken towards this goal: I think that we have made progress. The creation of the GLBTQ group [Prism-ND] is a big step forward, and I hope that’s successful… But there are other areas of the University where maybe we need to think about, for instance, how to incorporate international students. … They bring great gifts, but perhaps we need to make sure that they’re fully included. … Sometimes individuals from underrepresented minorities … feel that Notre Dame cou

Confused Pope confuses people over the gospel and homosexuality

Image
The Pope just returned from his visit to Brazil , and three different stories from the trip dominated the religious news last week. First, he declared that retweeting his updates about World Youth Day would help merit an indulgence. Then he led Mass for 3 million people in Brazil, and finally he declared that it is “not my role to judge gay priests.” That’s quite a news cycle, but hardly news. If you are not familiar with the differences between Catholicism and the gospel, here is a one paragraph theology lesson followed by a one paragraph history lesson: The Roman Catholic Church teaches that people can be saved from hell through a combination of faith and works (works energized by faith, if you will). Of course, salvation from hell is only part of the story, because according to the RCC, at death your soul goes to purgatory where the remaining sin is purged through suffering and torment. The difference between purgatory and hell is one of duration, and clearly the doctrine

New Toronto Catholic Board Trustee motion to overturn gay clubs enforcement

Image
TORONTO, May 13, 2013 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) – A new Toronto District Catholic School Board motion up for vote on May 23, seeks to reject the Ontario Liberal Government’s enforcement of homosexual activist clubs in Catholic schools .  "The Anti-Bullying Clubs Policy Change" motion supports the anti- bullying program recommended by the Archdiocese of Toronto , which opposes bullying of any type in school, thus rejecting Premier Dalton McGuinty ’s insistence on homosexual-focused anti-bullying clubs. (See the motion  here ) The motion, submitted by Toronto District Catholic School Board Trustee Garry Tanuan and seconded by Trustee John Del Grande, has the support of Catholic ratepayers and parents groups around the province which fought  the legislation  passed in June which attempted to force compliance by Catholic schools. Jim Hughes, National President of Campaign Life Coalition , told LifeSiteNews.com: “I think it’s very courageous of Garry and John. More import
