Christian college restores ban on homosexual relationships after backlash

Image
Azusa Pacific University (APU), an evangelical Christian school in California, has reinstated official language prohibiting homosexual relationships on campus following the backlash. Last week, the school had removed language from its Student Standards of Conduct singling out homosexual relationships as an example of prohibited conduct. The school continued to forbid “sexual intimacy outside the context of” the marriage “covenant between a man and a woman,” but officials accepted LGBT activists’ argument that the overt reference to homosexuality “stigmatized” homosexual students and “falsely assumed that same-sex romances always involved sexual behavior.” On September 28, the APU Board of Trustees released a  statement  announcing that it had not approved the revised language and the “original wording has been reinstated.” Student newspaper  Zu Media   clarifies  that the previous change had been approved by the administrative board, but not the trustees. “We affirm God’s per

California’s ‘stay gay’ bill is about to become law. Why Christians must refuse to obey it

Image
As California appears poised to pass a draconian bill that directly attacks your religious freedoms, it’s time for you to draw a line in the sand. If the bill passes, you must choose to obey God rather than man. It’s time for civil disobedience. I’m speaking about AB 2943, which the Senate just approved with by a vote of 25-11. Next is the Assembly, then the desk of Gov. Jerry Brown, then the length and breadth of your great state. In an August 16 email, Greg Burt, Director of Capitol Engagement, California Family Council, explained the significance of AB 2943, which I previously dubbed the “ Must Stay Gay ” bill. He wrote, “With Thursday's [Senate] vote, elected leaders told churches and those with biblical beliefs about gender and sexual orientation that advocating for their views could get them sued.” He continued, “This bill attacks the freedom of Christians . . . to find the services and resources from counselors, schools, and faith-based organizations that help them live out

Censorship: California Senate passes bill banning books, therapy to help unwanted gay attraction

Image
The California Senate voted Thursday to approve the nation’s broadest proposed ban on treatment for overcoming unwanted same-sex attractions. The vote on Assembly Bill 2943 was 25-11, the  Washington Blade  reports . The bill forbids minors and adults alike from obtaining “sexual orientation change efforts,” regardless of their wishes. By classifying what leftists pejoratively call “conversion therapy” (also known as reparative therapy) under prohibited “goods,” critics say it would go so far as to ban the sale of books endorsing the practice, as well as other forms of constitutionally-protected speech. The Assembly  voted  50-14 to pass AB 2943 in April, but its Senate vote was delayed until after the summer recess following a deluge of phone calls from disapproving constituents and a fierce public backlash from churches and other religious groups. Bill sponsor and Democratic Assemblyman Evan Low reportedly considered amending it into a more palatable form, but  Courthouse N

California school district says parents can’t pull kids from new LGBT sex ed

Image
California is about to implement new abortion- and homosexuality-promoting sex education lessons, and one school district has told parents they have no choice but to expose their children to them. California enacted the  California Healthy Youth Act  in 2015, but only now are its controversial provisions starting to take effect in classrooms. Under the auspices of health, the law says it will equip students to develop “healthy attitudes” on “gender [and] sexual orientation,” among other things. It also says it will inform students about the “effectiveness and safety of all FDA-approved contraceptive methods,” and facilitate “objective discussion” about “parenting, adoption, and abortion.” RedState contributor Kira Davis, a resident of Orange County, California,  warns  that among the teaching materials approved for use under this law are a  study guide  for the  transgender children’s book   I Am Jazz , as well as a “ sexual health toolkit .” This “toolkit,” funded in part

Christian ministry forced to cancel LA conference due to bill banning Biblical views on sexuality

Image
While not yet enacted into law, the fallout from the expected passage of California AB 2943 has begun as a Christian youth ministry cancels its planned summer conference in Los Angeles .   The youth ministry made the heartbreaking decision because many analysts suspect that the state’s controversial legislation will effectively end up banning any Christian teaching – whether written or spoken – which suggests that homosexuality and transgenderism are disordered in any way.    Summit Ministries , which had planned a 12-day student training conference at Biola University outside Los Angeles, decided to play it safe, choosing to cancel the event because of concerns that California will forbid some of what it teaches. Jeff Myers , president of Summit, called AB2943 “the most blatant chilling of free speech in America in my lifetime,” according to a  statement  released by the organization.   “We are grieved that it has come to this, but we simply cannot put our students, st

New CA Bill Outlaws Helping Anyone with Unwanted Same-Sex Desires or Gender Confusion

Image
The chair of the California LGBT Caucus recently introduced a bill to outlaw Christians and others with a Biblical view of sexuality from helping people with unwanted same-sex desires or gender identity confusion. Assemblyman Evan Low’s bill, AB 2943 , declares “advertising, offering to engage in, or engaging in sexual orientation change efforts with an individual” as illegal under state’s consumer fraud law. The implications of this legislation spread far beyond regulating the type of counselling offered by licensed counsellors, who are already banned from helping minors with unwanted same-sex attractions . Several legal experts have confirmed that this bill targets the ability of religious non-profits, churches, and pastors from teaching and practising their faith regarding sexual orientation and gender. “The language used in this bill casts a wide net calculated to entangle religious institutions and ministers,” said Kevin Snider, Chief Counsel Pacific Justice Institute . “

California bishops oppose bill targeting Christian teaching on homosexuality

Image
After a few days of silence regarding the California Assembly ’s proposed bill  AB 2943 , which could result in the  ban of books  aimed at helping people with unwanted same-sex attractions, the state’s Catholic bishops   issued a statement  against the controversial legislation.   “The bill is inappropriate, too broad and unnecessary,” the bishops said. The California Catholic Conference (CCC) simultaneously issued a thought-provoking tweet, asking, “Could a California bill ban Christian teaching on homosexuality?” CaCathConf @CACatholicConf Could a California bill ban Christian teaching on homosexuality? - The Angelus http:// ow.ly/athf30jDimk   To access an email voicing your opposition visit http:// cqrcengage.com/cacatholic/act ion?0  … 1:25 AM - Apr 24, 2018 Could a California bill ban Christian teaching on homosexuality?
