Image
RIO DE JANEIRO, July 24, 2013 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) - Gay rights and feminist groups are planning to stage protests during Pope Francis' stay in Rio de Janeiro for World Youth Day. The pope has already been subjected to a homosexual "kiss-in" along the papal motorcade route on Monday when he arrived in Rio. Video clips from the protest on July 22 showed lip-locked demonstrators, some of them topless, while others waved rainbow flags, according to a U.S.News report . Various media reports say that a gay rights group is planning another "beijaco" or kiss-in during a speech Pope Francis will give on Copacabana beach on July 25. The group is protesting against the Catholic Church ’s stance on homosexuality and gay “marriage.”  Pope Francis greets the crowds in Rio after his arrival Monday. Meanwhile, a group of Brazilian feminists, the Brazilian Women Association, is planning a " SlutWalk " to be staged on Copacabana beach on July 27, to pr

Brazilians fight back as regulatory agency tries to impose homosexual ‘marriage’ on entire country

Brazilian pro-family politicians have announced that they will fight a decree issued by the country’s National Council of Justice (CNJ) that orders all of Brazil’s registrars to accept applications for homosexual “ marriage ” and threatens them with legal action if they refuse. The decree, which was issued on May 14, claims to implement a  2011 decision  by the country’s Supreme Federal Tribunal , which ruled that homosexual unions are eligible to be registered as “stable unions,” similar to common-law marriages in Anglophone countries. However, parliamentarians from the Social Christian Party and other pro-family representatives are crying foul, pointing out that the Tribunal’s decision does not mention “marriage.” They say they intend to file suit with the Tribunal against the CNJ to nullify the decree. “Our understanding is that it was disastrous decision, inappropriate and unconstitutional,” said Everaldo Pereira, vice president of the Christian Social Party. He a

Sleazy Brazil wants immoral Homosexual Marriage

A top judicial panel cleared the way for same-sex marriage in Brazil Tuesday, ruling that gay couples could not be denied marriage licenses . The National Council of Justice, which oversees the Brazilian judicial system and is headed by the chief justice of the Supreme Court, said government offices that issue marriage licenses had no standing to reject gay couples. The Supreme Court "affirmed that the expression of homosexuality and homosexual affection cannot serve as a basis for discriminatory treatment, which has no support in the Constitution ," said Chief Justice Joaquim Barbosa on the council's website, referring to a 2011 ruling by the top court. Barbosa also said there was no reason for the government's marriage licensing offices to wait for the Brazilian Congress to pass a law authorizing same-sex marriage. Lawmakers are currently considering a bill that would legalize gay marriage . The council's decisions are subject to appeal before the Suprem

Evangelical human rights head fights to restore reparative therapy for homosexuality in Brazil

Image
Pastor Marco Feliciano, a Brazilian Evangelical who was recently elected as the chairman of the Human Rights Committee for the national Chamber of Deputies , is not satisfied with holding his ground against  bitter protests and pressure to resign  from homosexual activists and their allies.  To the outrage of the country’s gay lobby, he is now introducing legislation to roll back the prohibitions placed on reparative therapy for homosexuality by the country’s Federal Council of Psychology (CFP). The proposed legislation, authored by Evangelical deputy Joao Campos, would override parts of a resolution passed by the CFP in 1999, which prohibit psychologists from seeking to cure homosexuals of their sexual inclination or from endorsing the notion that their condition is any way psychologically disordered.  A similar measure failed last year. The CFP is a quasi-governmental body with the power to govern and restrict the activities of all Brazilian psychologists, and it ha

Three-person ‘stable union’ registered in Brazil

Image
August 29, 2012 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) - Two women and a man living together in the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo have registered their relationship as a “stable union,” according to local media sources. The action follows a decision by the nation’s Supreme Tribunal to allow homosexuals to enter into such unions, despite the fact that they are defined in the Constitution as a union between a man and a woman. The decision led to a lower court decision extending the eligibility for homosexuals to marriage itself, although the verdict has not yet been recognized throughout Brazil . “Stable unions” exist in Brazil to regulate cohabiting couples who are unmarried. The homosexualist Brazilian Family Institute (IBDFAM), which openly favors polygamous unions as well as same-sex ones, welcomed the most recent decision. “We have to respect the private nature of relationships and learn to live in this pluralistic society recognizing different desires,” said the group’s vice-preside

Brazilian psychology association seeks to revoke Christian therapist’s license

Image
July 5, 2012 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) - Brazilian psychologists are seeking to revoke the license of a therapist for publicly affirming her Christian beliefs on her online blog and twitter accounts, an action that the organization claims violates its code of ethics. Marisa Lobo, a psychologist and Evangelical who has published several popular works on psychological issues, sends Twitter messages to her thousands of followers under the title “ Christian Psychology,” and maintains a website with the same name. The Federal Council of Psychology (CFP), which has the power to regulate the activities of psychologists in Brazil, informed Lobo in February through its affiliate in the state of Paraná that she had 15 days to remove any indication of an association between her psychology practice and her religious beliefs from her website, or risk losing her license to practice. Marisa Lobo Lobo’s posts and tweets often conflict with the sexually libertine and left-wing ideology es

Brazilian government demands apology from televangelist for ‘homophobia’

Image
February 21, 2012 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) - A Brazilian federal prosecutor is demanding that a televangelist retract certain statements he made in 2011 which the prosecutor says incited “hatred” against homosexuals - a thinly veiled threat of future legal action . “The people in the Gay Parade mock the symbols of the Catholic Church and no one says anything,” televangelist Silas Malafaia reportedly said. “The Catholic Church should take a stick to these guys, you know? They should lower the club on them.” Silas Malafia Malafaia has reportedly responded to criticisms that he was inciting violence against homosexuals by stating that by “take a stick” (“entrar de pau”) and “lower the club” (“baixar o porrete) he meant the Church should “formulate criticisms, take legal actions.” In his remarks Malafaia was referring to the desecration of sacred images that occur regularly in homosexual parades in Brazil. Federal prosecutor Jefferson Apareceido Dias says the comments contain “clear homop
