Will ACNC shut down ACL but support Marriage Equality during gay plebiscite?

Image
The charity watchdog will issue fresh guidelines to not-for-profit groups campaigning on either side of the government's proposed same-sex marriage plebiscite to ensure they do not breach the sector's political rules. Several of the most outspoken organisations expected to spearhead the "yes" and "no" campaigns are registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission . Registered charities that enter the political fray are bound by a set of guidelines, including a ban on endorsing any one candidate or party for public office. The rules prevented groups such as Australian Marriage Equality and the Australian Christian Lobby from backing pro and anti-same-sex marriage candidates, respectively, at the July 2 federal election. However, the currently published guidelines do not explicitly state the protocols during plebiscites or referenda , when a law or policy is voted on rather than a candidate for office. Same Sex marriage threatens other's freedom

Image
It was disappointing to see the Shadow Attorney General assert that same-sex marriage posed no threat to other peoples’ freedoms, Australian Christian Lobby Managing Director Lyle Shelton said today. “Sadly the idea that redefining marriage and freedom for those who disagreed were “unrelated” had no basis in reality both overseas and here in Australia . Mr Dreyfus made the comments the Freedom for Faith conference in Melbourne yesterday. “There is a long list of people in the US, UK and Canada who have been fined, hauled before courts and demonised out of their jobs for their belief that marriage is between one man and one woman,” Mr Shelton said. “Here in Tasmania Archbishop Julian Porteous spent six months tied up in legal action before the Tasmanian Anti-Discrimination Commission after Australian Marriage Equality urged people to complain about his teaching on marriage. Mr Shelton said Mr Dreyfus was asked about the Trinity Western Law School in Canada who’s graduates

Australia: Rubbish Education gender fluidity

Image
According to reports in The Australian earlier this week, the recently-appointed Secretary of the Department, Mark Scott , has been ordered to investigate what, if any, scientific basis there is to Crossroads’ claims that gender is independent of biology. The Australian Christian Lobby calls upon the NSW Minister for Education, Adrian Piccoli , to bring transparency to the Education Department’s review of the controversial Crossroads program in schools which tells children their gender is fluid. Crossroads, purportedly designed to “address issues of health, safety and wellbeing”, is a compulsory part of the PDHPE curriculum for Year 11 and 12 students in NSW government schools. According to reports in The Australian earlier this week, the recently-appointed Secretary of the Department, Mark Scott, has been ordered to investigate what, if any, scientific basis there is to Crossroads’ claims that gender is independent of biology. Crossroads teaches students that, regardless of t

Homosexual marriage activists fail to condemn threats

Image
Marriage equality advocates have failed to condemn the behaviour of activists who made phone and social media threats, forcing a meeting of Christian opponents of gay marriage to be abandoned. The Accor hotels group confirmed on Friday that a meeting of about 100 people from groups including the Australian Christian Lobby , the Marriage Alliance, Sydney Anglicans and Sydney Catholics had been abandoned following threatening phone calls and social media posts that “rattled” employees and left the company concerned about the safety of staff and guests at the Mercure Sydney Airport hotel. A key argument used by Labor and Greens politicians and same-sex marriage advocates who oppose the government’s proposed plebiscite on the issue is that it will fuel “hate speech” against same-sex couples and their families. A statement from the meeting’s conveners alleged hotel staff had received “threats of violence” from same-sex marriage activists after details of the event were published on

Australia: Homosexual force Christians to cancel meeting - with physical threats

Image
The Left claims a debate on gay marriage will unleash the haters. But these hypocrites meant themselves - and now threats by same-sex marriage activists have forced Christians to cancel a meeting . A ferocious campaign against Christian groups planning to meet on same-sex marriage has forced them to cancel the event at a major hotel next week, amid claims of physical threats from marriage-equality advocates. The Accor Hotels group confirmed late yesterday that the function had been abandoned after a social media storm triggered phone calls that “rattled” employees and left the company concerned about the safety of staff and guests. In the first test of the “civil” debate promised for a plebiscite on gay marriage, advocates for the “yes” case were being blamed last night for the kind of “ hate speech ” that Bill Shorten and others have claimed would come from the “no” case. A spokeswoman for the Mercure Sydney Airport Hotel said the campaign by marriage-equality advocates had forced

Anglican church says it will accept results of marriage equality plebiscite

Image
Head of the church likens situation to acceptance of state recognition of de facto relationships, but insists its Christian doctrine will not change. The head of the Anglican church in Australia has said it “must accept” a change in the civil definition of marriage if the plebiscite approves marriage equality , but it is unlikely the church’s doctrine will change . In a letter to the nation’s Anglican bishops, the Melbourne archbishop Philip Freier also threw his weight behind a plebiscite, saying the government had a mandate for the policy and it would make the social reform easier to accept but only by some as compared to an single person edict in the USA and Mexico . On Friday, Freier wrote that he personally “welcomes the plebiscite, though with strong reservations that we must guard the tenor of the debate, and keep it positive”. How does a pastor keep sinful homosexual marriage positive? How? He noted uncertainty over whether a plebiscite would be held because of parl

Australia: Safe School Coalition full of lies

Image
The Safe Schools Coalition of Australia continues to promote a controversial children’s story book,The Gender Fairy, despite its author, Jo Hirst, saying it is not a “Safe Schools” resource. Ms Hirst told Channel 10 ’s The Project last night: “People like Lyle Shelton have used it against Safe Schools saying that it’s a Safe Schools resource, which it’s clearly not.” Australian Christian Lobby Managing Director Lyle Shelton said: “The comments made on Channel 10’s The Project last night which suggested that the Gender Fairy was ‘totally unrelated to Safe Schools’ is untrue. “The Safe Schools website promotes the controversial book and encourages students and parents to ensure the book is made available in their school library,” Mr Shelton said. “Safe Schools is advocating and promoting contested gender theory to children as young as four through its promotion of The Gender Fairy. “Ms Hirst collaborated with the now suspended Safe Schools co-founder Roz Ward in preparing t

Australia: Marxism and Homosexuality -gender fluidity

It has not been a good week for avowed Marxist and Safe Schools Coalition co-founder Roz Ward who is now under suspension from her university job. She earlier resigned from a Victorian Government committee following the leak of her Facebook post criticising the Australian flag as “racist”. New Matilda   reports that she has been stood down by Latrobe University for having “undermined public confidence in … you as a person associated with the Safe Schools Program.” Further, her conduct has “damaged the reputation of the Safe Schools Program and aligns the Safe Schools program with views that have nothing to do with the program, and its message and content.” As one Christian commentator has noted: “Raise a legitimate complaint about what our national flag represents … and all hell breaks loose.” Yet as David Ould also points out,”this lady has pushed a really awful political agenda upon our schools and she was untouchable.” Suddenly the debate over the Safe School C

Australia: La Trobe University Lecturer defends paedophilia

La Trobe University (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) The University that promoted homosexuality in Australia schools entitled Safe Schools is now saying Children can experience “a sense of power and control in sexual encounters with adults” and sexual pleasure , according to a senior La Trobe University academic who supports the controversial Safe Schools Coalition Australia program. Dr Steven Angelides is the Senior Grants Administrator of La Trobe’s Australian Research Centre in Sex, Health and Society (ARCSHS), which launched the “Safe Schools” program. He has argued that children are capable of consenting to sexual activity with adults, and that such activities are not necessarily harmful. “I am deeply concerned about articles by Dr Angelides, whose views appear to be fundamentally at odds with those of parents,” FamilyVoice research officer Ros Phillips said today. In a 2004 article “Sex and the Child”, published in the journal Meanjin [Volume 63, Issue 4], Dr Angelides wrote: T
