Arkansas high court strikes down voter-approved gay adoption ban

Image via Wikipedia Arkansas ’s state Supreme Court on Thursday struck down a voter-approved initiative passed in 2008 that forbade unmarried couples, including homosexuals, from adopting or fostering children. The Arkansas Supreme Court ruled Thursday that Arkansas Act 1, was unconstitutional because it violated the rights of couples engaging in sexual activity to adopt. Act 1, which voters passed by a 57 – 43 percent margin in November 2008, stated: “A minor may not be adopted or placed in a foster home if the individual seeking to adopt or to serve as a foster parent is cohabiting with a sexual partner outside of a marriage which is valid under the constitution and laws of this state.” The Act clarified that the prohibition “applies equally to cohabiting opposite-sex and same-sex individuals.” “Act 1 directly and substantially burdens the privacy rights of ’opposite-sex and same-sex individuals’ who engage in private, consensual sexual conduct in the bedroom by foreclosing t

Unfit to foster: Christianity is a disease

Image via Wikipedia For 15 years, Owen and Eunice Johns served as foster parents to British children. Social workers praised them as “kind and hospitable people” who “respond sensitively to” children. But London’s High Court has just ruled that the Johnses are unfit to foster. The reason: The Johnses are devout Christians , and their views about homosexuality may harm the children in their care. This opinion echoes that Britain’s Equality and Human Rights Commission , which, according to the Daily Mail, claimed foster children risked becoming “infected” by the Johnses’ Christian beliefs . The case came about when the Johnses re-applied to the Derby City Council to foster children after taking a break. But instead of welcoming them back with open arms, social workers expressed concern that the couple’s beliefs were in violation of the new Equality Act Regulations, which protect the rights of homosexuals. The Johnses could not believe that being Christians automatically excluded

Gay couple file complaint

Image via Wikipedia A homosexual man has filed human rights complaints against two bed and breakfasts in Illinois after they refused to let out their premises for a civil union ceremony between the man and his sexual partner. Illinois Democrat Gov. Pat Quinn signed a new law allowing marriage-like privileges for homosexual couples on January 31, and the law is set to take effect in June. “We have received a complaint. We are investigating whether or not it is a violation,” said Robyn Ziegler, a spokeswoman for the Attorney General’s Office , according to The Telegraph. The owner of the first B&B, the Beall Mansion of Alton, Ill., had told the complainant, Todd Wathen of Mattoon, IL , that they only let out their premises for weddings .  The Christian owners of the second, Jim and Beth Walder of TimberCreek Bed and Breakfast of Paxton, had a similar response. In the course of e-mail correspondence with Jim Walder, Wathen argued: “starting June 1st, a civil union is a weddi

School bans Be Happy Not Gay t-shirt

Image
Image via Wikipedia On Tuesday the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit issued  a ruling which may have far-reaching implications for freedom of speech in schools as the issue of same-sex ‘marriage’ is debated in the United States .  “[A] school that permits advocacy of the rights of homosexual students cannot be allowed to stifle criticism of homosexuality ,” the 7th Circuit’s opinion reads. The case revolved around the Indian Prairie School District, which prohibited high school students from expressing their religious views about homosexual behavior on t-shirts. The court rejected Indian Prairie’s argument that school officials could justifiably put the First Amendment aside and censor t-shirts with the message “Be Happy, Not Gay ” to prevent some students’ from having their feelings hurt. “The school argued (and still argues) that banning ‘Be Happy, Not Gay’ was just a matter of protecting the ‘rights’ of the students against whom derogatory comments are directed.  But

Totalitarian and hateful gay activism

Image
Image via Wikipedia There has been a consistent recent pattern of seemingly a majority of people who know right from wrong, especially religious leaders, deliberately avoiding confronting and acting on the truths about homosexuality and its dangers to homosexually active persons and to society.  This politically correct abdication of personal responsibility has facilitated and encouraged today’s increasingly totalitarian and hateful gay activism .  A loving, but firm and courageous public response is urgently needed. We pay now, or we pay later - at a much higher price.
